Abstract

The present invention relates to a method for producing hypoimmunogenic functional macrophages and a cell composition comprising the same. The hypoimmunogenic functional macrophages may be polarized or non-polarized. Such cells may be useful in the treatment of diseases, such as inflammatory organ damage. Therapies achieved by hypoimmunogenic functional macrophages are universal, and the cells do not require donor-to-recipient matching. This broadens the scope of application of cell-based therapies, particularly in patients with chronic liver fibrosis.
