AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing deployable structures, such as solar cell arrays and communication antennas, face challenges in transitioning between a compact folded state for storage and a large deployed state efficiently, particularly when using over-constrained link mechanisms like the Bricard linkage, which complicates the deployment process.

Method used

A deployable structure with a closed-loop link mechanism comprising four or more rod-shaped members, hinge members, and a central member, utilizing a slide member and string-like members to facilitate opening and closing operations, allowing for a simple transition between folded and deployed states through a sliding mechanism.

Benefits of technology

Enables efficient and straightforward transitions between folded and deployed states, maximizing area utilization in the deployed state while minimizing storage space in the folded state, with reduced operational effort.

Abstract

The present disclosure describes an expandable structure capable of achieving transition between a folded state and an expanded state with a simple configuration and operation.SOLUTION: The deployment structure includes a plurality of rod-shaped members arranged in an annular shape as a whole, a plurality of hinge members each connecting two adjacent rod-shaped members among the plurality of rod-shaped members, a central member extending inside a space surrounded by the plurality of rod-shaped members so as to intersect the space, and an opening / closing mechanism configured to cause a first hinge member and a second hinge member among the plurality of hinge members to perform an opening / closing operation. The opening / closing mechanism includes a slide member provided so as to be slidably movable with respect to the central member, a first string-like member connecting the first hinge member and the central member so as to pass through a tip side of the slide member, and a second string-like member connecting the second hinge member and the central member so as to pass through a base end side of the slide member.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
