AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing elevator systems are limited to movement within a hoistway, restricting the variety of video content that can be provided to users, leading to a lack of realism in the passenger experience.

Method used

An elevator system with a display device showing a virtual viewpoint and a control device that synchronizes the car's movement with the virtual viewpoint's movement in the displayed image, applying accelerations to mimic the perceived direction of the virtual viewpoint, allowing for a realistic experience with various video content.

Benefits of technology

The system provides users with a realistic experience by simulating the movement of the virtual viewpoint, enhancing the passenger experience through mixed reality, augmented reality, and virtual reality content despite the physical limitations of the elevator's movement.

Abstract

To provide an elevator system capable of providing an experience with presence to a user according to various video contents by utilizing a car.SOLUTION: This elevator system includes a car liftably arranged in a hoistway, a display device for displaying an image from a virtual viewpoint to a user in the car, and a control device for controlling lifting of the car in response to movement of the virtual viewpoint in the image displayed on the display device. The control device performs a first control for applying an acceleration in an ascending direction to the car when a virtual viewpoint in an image displayed on the display device ascends and applying an acceleration in a descending direction to the car when the virtual viewpoint in the image displayed on the display device descends, and a second control for applying the acceleration in the descending direction to the car when the virtual viewpoint in the image displayed on the display device ascends and applying the acceleration in the ascending direction to the car when the virtual viewpoint in the image displayed on the display device descends.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 4
