Abstract

To provide a diaphragm support for water electrolysis that has excellent packing properties for hydrophilic inorganic particles, and to provide a diaphragm for water electrolysis that, through the provision of the diaphragm support for water electrolysis, efficiently improves the effects of making it difficult for gases generated during water electrolysis to permeate and improving ion permeability. [Solution] The diaphragm support for water electrolysis of the present invention comprises a nonwoven fabric containing polyphenylene sulfide fibers as constituent fibers. In the nonwoven fabric of the present invention, the constituent fibers are bonded to each other only by entanglement of the fibers. Therefore, the nonwoven fabric of the diaphragm support for water electrolysis of the present invention does not have any portions where the constituent fibers are deformed due to thermal fusion or any portions where the constituent fibers are bonded to each other by a binder or the like. As a result, the nonwoven fabric does not unintentionally close interstices between the fibers, and the present invention can provide a diaphragm support for water electrolysis that has excellent packing properties for hydrophilic inorganic particles.
