Frequency-shifting exciter for loop-gap resonators

Abstract

The present invention provides a frequency-shifting exciter for loop-gap resonators and a method for tuning the resonant frequency of a loop-gap resonator. [Solution] The device comprises a loop gap resonator having opposing sides and a central opening passing through them, and at least one exciter board positioned above and at a predetermined distance from at least one of the opposing sides of the loop gap resonator. The exciter board includes at least one metallized layer and a central hole passing through it. The exciter board has one or more notches defining a geometric configuration with respect to the central hole such that a first portion of the metallized layer borders the central hole at a first distance from the center point of the central hole. A second portion of the metallized layer borders one or more notches at a second distance greater than the first distance from the center point. The exciter board shifts the resonant frequency of the loop gap resonator to match a predetermined resonant frequency.
