Abstract
This invention provides a versatile and simple method for predicting the service life of existing reinforced concrete and steel-reinforced concrete buildings, based on the neutralization of concrete. [Solution] A method for predicting the service life of existing reinforced concrete and steel-reinforced concrete buildings based on concrete carbonation comprises steps (1) to (3). Step (1): Arrange the carbonation depth values of multiple survey locations obtained from concrete surveys of existing buildings in ascending order, and identify a representative value Cr of carbonation depth from the 50th percentile to the 100th percentile. Step (2): Substitute the representative value Cr of carbonation depth and the number of years t elapsed from completion to concrete survey into the formula Ar = Cr / √t to calculate the representative value Ar of carbonation rate coefficient. Step (3): Substitute the representative value Ar of carbonation rate coefficient and the concrete cover thickness D over the reinforcement into the formula T = D 2 / Ar 2 Substitute the values and calculate the useful life T from the time of completion.
