Abstract

This invention provides a novel classification of composite material incorporating unimpregnated cell-type carbon having a template-type cavity morphological structure. [Solution] A composite material comprising a binder and nanostructured carbon, wherein the binder comprises one or more polymer-based, metallic-based, ceramic-based, or pyrolysis-carbon-based binders, and the nanostructured carbon comprises a cellular structure. The cellular structure comprises one or more cell walls and one or more cavities having structural parts formed by a template. Each cavity is substantially surrounded by the one or more cell walls and is substantially not impregnated with liquid or solid.
