Method for preparing volcanic ash samples and volcanic ash samples

Abstract

This invention provides a method for preparing volcanic ash samples that retain their original structure and can be analyzed under an electron microscope, and also provides such volcanic ash samples. [Solution] A method for preparing a volcanic ash sample includes a coating process in which a room-temperature curing resin is applied to the bottom of the inside of a resin molding mold so that the thickness of the room-temperature curing resin is in the range of 0.1 to 5 mm; a filling process in which an aggregated volcanic ash sample is filled into the inside of the resin molding mold that has gone through the coating process; a penetration process in which the inside of the resin molding mold that has gone through the filling process is vacuum-suctioned and the room-temperature curing resin penetrates into the aggregated volcanic ash sample; and a polishing process in which the cross-section of the solidified aggregated volcanic ash sample obtained through the penetration process is polished. The volcanic ash sample is prepared by the method for preparing a volcanic ash sample described above.
