Hip joint replacement navigation system and method

Abstract

The objective is to provide accurate measurements of a patient's leg length and joint offset, and to enable visualization of these leg lengths and joint offsets using conventional equipment. [Solution] A hip joint navigation system is provided, comprising a base having at least one channel through which a pin for attaching the base to the pelvis is disposed. A mounting feature is positioned on the upper surface. A recording fixture is configured to connect to the base and engage with anatomical landmarks. In some embodiments, a patient-specific fixture system for hip replacement is provided, comprising an engaging surface formed to closely connect to the acetabular contour of a particular patient, and a recording feature configured to be in a predetermined orientation with respect to the patient's acetabular fossa when the fixture is connected to the acetabular contour of a particular patient. In other embodiments, a method for using this system is provided.
