Abstract

The present invention provides a document transport device that can return the paper feed unit to its initial position when the transport cover is closed. [Solution] The document transport device comprises a paper feed tray, a transport frame, a transport cover 13 that rotates upward to expose the transport path, and a paper feed unit 63 provided on the transport cover 13. The paper feed unit 63 comprises a drive shaft 93 supported by the transport cover 13, a drive gear 111 that rotates integrally with the drive shaft 93, a holder 91 that is rotatably supported by the drive shaft 93, and a pickup roller 97 supported by the holder 91. The transport frame comprises a drive gear 29 and a rack gear 27 that can mesh with the drive gear 111. When the transport cover 13 is rotated downward, the drive gear 111 first meshes with the rack gear 27 and then with the drive gear 29, causing the drive shaft 93 to rotate and returning the paper feed unit 63 to its initial position.
