AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing PCB connectors with press-fit structures experience scratches or peeling of plating on the intermediate portion due to sliding on the rib, which affects connection reliability, especially when the board connection portion passes through the press-fit portion before soldering.

Method used

A PCB connector design featuring terminals with a comb-like substrate connection portion and a housing with press-fit ribs that ensure high retention force and alignment accuracy, preventing scratches and peeling by positioning the teeth away from the press-fit ribs during insertion.

🎯Benefits of technology

The design provides high terminal retention force and reliable connection with the substrate, ensuring the integrity of the soldered connection and preventing misalignment, while maintaining the structural integrity of the connector.

Abstract

The present invention provides a PCB connector in which terminals are press-fitted and held in a housing, and which offers high terminal retention force and high reliability of connection with the circuit board. [Solution] The PCB connector 1 comprises terminals 2A and 2B and a housing 3. The housing 3 has a through hole through which terminal 2A is inserted and a through hole through which terminal 2B is inserted. A pair of press-fit ribs are formed on the inner surface of each through hole to press against each terminal 2A and 2B. Each terminal 2A and 2B also has a press-fit projection that is press-fitted into each through hole. The press-fit ribs extend in the direction of insertion of each terminal 2A and 2B into each through hole, and the extension lines of the press-fit ribs are arranged to pass between the extension lines of multiple teeth 25 of terminals 2A and 2B.
