Abstract

This invention provides a control filter that enables switching between reflection and absorption of terahertz waves of a selected frequency at any desired timing. [Solution] A terahertz wave control filter comprising a transparent substrate, a dielectric layer provided on the transparent substrate, a metal substrate provided on the dielectric layer, and a plurality of metaatoms provided on the transparent substrate in contact with the dielectric layer, wherein the optical distance within the dielectric layer to terahertz waves incident from the transparent substrate side can be variably controlled.

Claims

1. The device comprises a transparent substrate, a dielectric layer provided on the transparent substrate, a metal substrate provided on the dielectric layer, and a plurality of metaatoms provided on the transparent substrate in contact with the dielectric layer. A terahertz wave control filter configured to allow variable control of the optical distance within the dielectric layer to terahertz waves incident from the transparent substrate side.

2. The terahertz wave control filter according to claim 1, wherein the plurality of metaatoms are arranged on the transparent substrate at a period shorter than the wavelength of the terahertz wave.

3. The terahertz wave control filter according to claim 2, wherein the period is 300 to 500 μm and the maximum diameter of the metaatom is 60 to 470 μm.

4. The terahertz wave control filter according to claim 3, wherein the shape of the contact surface between the transparent substrate and the metaatom is circular or cross-shaped, the length of the major axis of the cross shape is 300 to 470 μm, and the length of the minor axis is 50 to 70 μm.

5. The terahertz wave control filter according to claim 4, wherein the transparent substrate is a substrate comprising at least one of silicon dioxide, a cycloolefin polymer, and polypropylene, and the dielectric layer is an air layer or a liquid crystal layer.

6. The terahertz wave control filter according to claim 5, wherein the thickness of the air layer or the refractive index of the liquid crystal layer is configured to be variably controllable.

7. An optical device comprising a terahertz wave control filter according to any one of claims 1 to 6.
