[Solution] The image forming apparatus comprises a driver unit which, when it determines that the USB driver has received a firmware update request, creates a communication control unit which is a socket that serves as a communication path between the driver unit and the update execution unit, sends a firmware update request to the update execution unit via the communication control unit, and stores the update firmware in the data storage unit, and an update execution unit which receives a firmware update request from the driver unit via the communication control unit, receives the update firmware stored in the data storage unit from the driver unit via the communication control unit, and performs an update using the update firmware in accordance with the firmware update request.
