Abstract

The present invention provides a friction stir point joining device that can prevent the rotation of a rotary tool from stopping during the joining of plate-shaped members. [Solution] The friction stir point joining apparatus 1 of the present invention comprises a rotation drive unit 30 that rotates a rotating tool 20 around a central axis CX, an axial drive unit 40 that moves the rotating tool 20 in the direction of the central axis CX, and a control unit 50 that controls the rotation drive unit 30 and the axial drive unit 40. The friction stir point joining apparatus 1 joins plate-shaped members 61 and 62 by pressing the rotating rotating tool 20 against a plurality of stacked plate-shaped members 61 and 62. If the load on the rotation drive unit 30 reaches the upper limit load during joining of the plate-shaped members 61 and 62, the control unit 50 controls the axial drive unit 40 to pull the rotating tool 20 away from the plate-shaped members 61 and 62 while keeping the rotating tool 20 rotating.
