AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

In AV1 video encoding, the predicted residual signals for chroma channels, such as Cb and Cr, exhibit high correlation, leading to statistical redundancy that hinders efficient coding.

Method used

Implement a Joint Component Quadratic Transform (JCST) to reduce statistical redundancy between chroma residual components by applying a quadratic transformation to the conversion coefficients before and after quantization.

Benefits of technology

JCST enhances coding efficiency by reducing redundancy and improving compression performance for chroma residuals.

Abstract

The present invention provides a method for decoding an encoded video bitstream using at least one processor. [Solution] The method includes the steps of: obtaining an encoded video bitstream containing encoded color components; performing entropy analysis on the encoded color components; dequantizing the color components and obtaining conversion coefficients for the color components; generating a JCST output by applying a Joint Component Quadratic Transform (JCST) to the conversion coefficients for the color components; determining the residual components of the color components by performing an inverse transform on the JCST output; and decoding the encoded video bitstream based on the residual components of the color components.
