AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

The determination of LDPC codeword length in UWB systems is crucial for improving error control performance and reducing bitrate loss, as it significantly affects data transmission reliability, yet existing methods do not adequately address this need.

Method used

A method and apparatus for determining the length of LDPC codewords in UWB systems by using a parity check matrix to encode information bits, with specific length determinations based on the number of information bits to be encoded, including cases for different bit ranges, and generating parity bits accordingly.

Benefits of technology

This approach enhances error control performance and reduces bitrate loss, particularly by utilizing LDPC codes with short and intermediate lengths (648 bits and 1296 bits) to minimize power consumption in UWB systems.

Abstract

This invention provides a method and apparatus for determining the length of an LDPC codeword in a UWB system. [Solution] The method includes determining the LDPC code length based on the information bit length to be encoded by the communication device. A 648-bit LDPC code is selected when the information bit length is in the range of 0 to 324, a 1296-bit LDPC code is selected when it is in the range of 325 to 648 or 973 to 1296, and a 1944-bit LDPC code is selected when it is in the range of 649 to 972. According to the embodiment of the present invention, higher performance improvements can be achieved. The present invention may be applied to UWB-based wireless personal LAN systems and sensing systems including 802.15 series protocols such as 802.15.4ab or the next-generation UWB protocol of 802.15.4ab, 802.11 series protocols such as 802.11be or the next-generation UWB protocol of 802.11be, or wireless LAN systems based on Wi-Fi 8.
