Abstract

To provide an image forming apparatus that more reliably encourages the use of genuine image forming material housings. [Solution] The image forming apparatus is capable of mounting an image forming material storage unit having a first storage unit for storing information. The image forming apparatus comprises a transport unit, an image forming unit, a communication unit, and a control unit. The image forming unit forms an image on a printing medium using image forming material supplied from the image forming material storage unit. The communication unit reads the information stored in the first storage unit of the image forming material storage unit. This information includes genuine product information indicating that the image forming material storage unit is a genuine product.
