[0015] According to another feature of the present invention, an image information display assistance device is provided, which is linked to an image information display device having an image information storage unit, a control unit that controls the playback of the image information in the storage unit, and a display screen that plays back and displays the image information based on the control unit, and is characterized by having an order unit that transmits an order to an external party for creating video information based on a single still image stored in the storage unit, and a video information providing unit that receives the video information created by the external party and stores it in the storage unit. The functions proposed by the present invention can be provided by wired or wireless connection with an existing image information display device. In more specific features, the image information display assistance device has a feedback acquisition means for acquiring feedback information from a viewer of the video information. In even more specific features, the feedback information is for the external party to modify the video information based on it. In even more specific features, the image information display assistance device has a control unit that controls the display of the image information on the display screen based on the feedback information. In addition, in another specific feature, the video information includes a plurality of different videos created based on the same still image. In even more specific features, the image information display assistance device selects the plurality of different videos based on the feedback information. Furthermore, according to other specific features, the image information display assistance device changes the playback order of the multiple different videos based on the feedback information. Specifically, the image information display assistance device has a microphone that picks up the viewer's voice or a camera that detects the viewer's facial expressions as the feedback means.
[0016] Another feature of the present invention provides an image information display device comprising: a video information storage unit; a control unit that controls the playback of the video information in the storage unit; a display screen that plays and displays the video information based on the control unit; and a feedback acquisition means that acquires feedback information from a viewer of the video, wherein the control unit controls the playback of the video information based on the viewer's feedback information acquired by the feedback acquisition means. This allows the image information display device to control the video display based on viewer feedback information and provide it to the viewer more appropriately. Specifically, the control unit continues playback while controlling playback based on the viewer's feedback information acquired by the feedback acquisition means after video playback has started. In even more specific terms, the control unit determines the viewer's level of satisfaction or displeasure based on the viewer's feedback information acquired by the feedback acquisition means, and controls playback based on this determination. In even more specific terms, the video information in the storage unit includes the same image that appears repeatedly in between, and the control unit seamlessly rearranges the video playback order by skipping from the same image portion to the same portion in a different location based on the feedback information. In more specific terms, the video information in the memory unit is created from a single still image, and the control unit seamlessly rearranges the video playback order by skipping from one part of the still image to another part of the still image based on the feedback information. In other specific terms, the control unit controls the playback speed of the video information based on the viewer's feedback information acquired by the feedback acquisition means. The image information display device specifically includes, as the feedback means, a microphone that picks up the viewer's voice or a camera that detects the viewer's facial expressions.
[0017] Another feature of the present invention provides a video creation method comprising the steps of: generating multiple different videos based on the same still image; obtaining feedback information from a viewer of the video information; and selecting the multiple different videos based on the feedback information. This makes it possible to create an appropriate video based on feedback information from the viewer. The feedback information from the viewer can include, for example, the viewer's voice or facial expressions. The video creation method may also have the specific features of: creating a longer video than the multiple individual videos by connecting the selected multiple different videos at the same still image portion; and storing the longer video.
[0018] Another feature of the present invention provides a video creation method comprising the steps of: generating multiple different videos based on the same still image; obtaining feedback information from viewers of the video information; and replacing the multiple different videos based on the feedback information. This makes it possible to create an appropriate video based on feedback information from viewers. For example, the viewer's voice or facial expressions can be used as feedback information from viewers. The video creation method may specifically include the steps of: creating a longer video than the multiple individual videos by connecting the selected multiple different videos at the same still image portion; and storing the longer video.
[0019] According to another aspect of the present invention, there is provided a moving image creation method comprising: generating a plurality of different moving images based on the same still image; connecting said plurality of different moving images at said same still image portion to create a moving image longer than said plurality of individual moving images; and storing said longer moving image. This allows seamless connection of different short moving images created from the same still image information to create a longer moving image. In this way, by keeping each individual moving image short, a long moving image can be created while preventing the moving image from gradually deviating from the original still image and developing into a moving image with a sense of discomfort. Furthermore, if each individual moving image is short, creation from a still image is also facilitated.
[0020] According to a specific feature, in the moving image creation method of the present invention, one of said plurality of moving images is reversely played from a middle point to return to said same still image, and this is connected to another one of said plurality of moving images. This allows seamless connection of said plurality of different moving images at said same still image portion.
[0021] According to a more specific feature, in the moving image creation method of the present invention, when reversely playing one of said plurality of moving images, reverse playback is started from a different position. This allows a plurality of different moving images to be created from one same moving image material.
[0022] According to another specific feature, in the moving image creation method of the present invention, when creating said longer moving image, one of said plurality of different moving images is used a plurality of times. This enables creation of a longer moving image. According to a further specific feature, when one of said plurality of different moving images is used a plurality of times, the order of appearance of the plurality of different moving images is randomized. This makes repeated use of the same moving image unnoticeable. According to another specific feature, when one of said plurality of different moving images is used a plurality of times, the playback speed is made different from that of the previous use, so that repeated use can be made unnoticeable.
[0023] The specific features described above are useful for creating a long video that does not cause boredom due to repetition of the same material, even when short videos based on the same still image information are spliced together.
[0024] According to another feature of the present invention, there is provided an image information display system comprising: an image information display device placed in a resident's room for displaying images; and a nurse call enabling two-way communication between the room and a management center, wherein the image information display device and the nurse call operate in cooperation. According to a specific feature, image reproduction is automatically started in conjunction with a resident's operation of the call button of the nurse call. This alleviates the situation where the resident spends time idly while waiting for a response to the nurse call, or while waiting for the staff of the nursing home who received the nurse call to actually rush to the room.
[0025] Further, according to another specific feature of the present invention, image reproduction by the image information display device is controlled from the management center side. According to a more specific feature, when a staff member cannot rush to the resident immediately after a nurse call is made because the staff member is busy responding to another resident, the management center side not only verbally informs the resident that the staff member needs to wait, but also starts video reproduction via the image information display device from the management center side to alleviate the resident's irritation. At that time, the management center side can also switch images so that an appropriate image selected in advance is reproduced. As such an image, not only images of the resident but also images of the staff member of the management center responding to the nurse call can be stored in the image information display device, and it is possible to select such images to be reproduced. According to another specific feature, reproduction of the image information display device is controlled from the management center based on feedback of the resident's voice and facial expression. Note that the image displayed by the image information display device cooperating with the nurse call may be a video in the same manner as other features of the present invention. [Effects of the Invention]
[0026] As described above, according to the features of the present invention, for example, residents of a nursing home can view videos created from still images of themselves, their families, and friends from their younger days, for which no videos exist, on an image information display device placed in their room. Furthermore, according to another feature of the present invention, the display or creation of videos can be made more appropriate through two-way communication with the viewer. These features are useful, for example, for stimulating the mental and physical activity of nursing home residents. In addition, according to another feature of the present invention, the display of images can be linked with a nurse call system to facilitate communication with residents. [0028] Figure 1 is a block diagram showing the entire image information display system according to Embodiment 1 of the present invention. The system includes an image processing company 2, an image generation artificial intelligence (image generation AI) 6 used by the image processing company 2 via the Internet 4, and nursing homes A 8 and B 10 that receive services from the image processing company 2. The system includes many other nursing homes, but for simplicity, nursing homes A 8 and B 10 will be used as representative examples. The image generation AI 6 provides a function to generate videos from still images, and users of the image generation AI 6 can use this function via the Internet. The image processing company 2 can upload still images to the image generation AI 6 via the Internet 4 and generate a desired video by inputting predetermined prompts.
[0029] Image processing company 2 has a processing control unit 12 that creates a video based on still image information provided by nursing home A 8 or nursing home B 10. The processing control unit 12 works in cooperation with image generation AI 6 via the internet 4 to process the still image information and create a video. The processing control unit 12 includes a CPU, and the memory unit 13 stores the program data necessary for its operation. The memory unit 13 also serves as a storage medium for storing the program data necessary for the system of the present invention. The details will be described later.
[0030] Nursing home A 8 includes a management center 14, a WiFi router 16 under its control, and AA rooms 18 and AB rooms 20 for residents. Nursing home 8 has many other rooms for residents, but for simplicity, the description will be representative of AA rooms 18 and AB rooms 20. The management center 14 includes a management control unit 22 that controls the entire nursing home 8, and a nurse call center 24 that responds bidirectionally to nurse calls from AA rooms 18 and AB rooms 20.
[0031] Room AA 18 is equipped with a nurse call system 26, which includes a call button, speaker, and microphone, and can communicate with the nurse call center 24 at the management center 14. Room AA 18 also has a video-enabled digital photo frame 28, which can communicate with the WiFi router 16 via WiFi 30. As a result, residents of Room AA 18 can communicate with the management center 14 not only via the nurse call system 26 but also via the video-enabled digital photo frame 28. Hereafter, residents of Room AA 18 and other nursing homes are defined as users of the video-enabled digital photo frame 28. As explained below, staff members of nursing homes such as Nursing Home A 8 can also utilize the video-enabled digital photo frame 28 and are therefore also considered users.
[0032] The operation of the video-enabled digital photo frame 28 is controlled by a video-enabled digital photo frame control unit (hereinafter referred to as the "DPF control unit") 34, which includes a CPU. The memory unit 32 stores the program data necessary for its operation and the image information to be displayed. Residents or staff of the A nursing home 8 operate the video-enabled digital photo frame 28 by manually operating the operation unit 36. Image output from the DPF control unit 34 is displayed on the display screen 38, and audio output is output to the speaker 40.
[0033] The video-enabled digital photo frame 28 is connected to an external microphone 42 and camera 44. These are used to input the voice and facial expressions of the residents and are used to input operation information for the video-enabled digital photo frame 28. They are also used to detect information about the residents' level of pleasure or displeasure from their voices and facial expressions as they view the image information, and to obtain feedback information about their viewing experience. This feedback information is reflected in the video creation by the image processing company 2, but the details of this will be described later.
[0034] Rooms A and B in nursing home 8 are also equipped with a nurse call system 46, a video-enabled digital photo frame 48, a microphone 50, and a camera 52. However, these are the same as the corresponding parts in room AA 18, so no explanation is provided. The internal details of the video-enabled digital photo frame 48 are also the same as those of the video-enabled digital photo frame 28 in room AA 18, so no illustration is provided.
[0035] Nursing Home B 10 also includes a management center 54, a WiFi router 56 under its control, and BA rooms 58 and BB rooms 60 for residents. These are the same as the corresponding parts of Nursing Home A 8, so their explanation is omitted. Nursing Home B 10 also has many other rooms for residents, but for simplicity, BA rooms 58 and BB rooms 60 are used as representative examples in the illustration, as is the case with Nursing Home A 8. Furthermore, the details of the interiors of the management center 54, BA rooms 58, and BB rooms 60 are the same as the corresponding parts of Nursing Home A 8, so their illustration is omitted.
[0036] Next, the details of the configuration and operation of the present invention will be described. As described above, the video-enabled digital photo frame 28 has an image information storage unit 32, a DPF control unit 34 that controls the playback of the image information in the storage unit 32, and a display screen 38 that plays back and displays the image information based on the DPF control unit 34. The storage unit 32 stores still image information entered by the resident themselves, but the DPF control unit 34 selects one of them by the resident's arbitrary or automatic selection and sends this single still image along with an order to create video information based on it to an external image processing company 2. Specifically, this order is sent from the WiFi 30 via the WiFi router 16, from the management control unit 22 of the management center 14 to the processing control unit 12 of the image processing company 2 via the internet 4.
[0037] The image processing control unit 12 of the image processing company 2 responds to this order by creating video information from a single still image received and sending it back to the video-enabled digital photo frame 28. Specifically, the created video information is transmitted from the image processing control unit 12 of the image processing company 2 to the management control unit 22 of the management center 14 via the internet 4, and delivered to the WiFi router 16 and then to the WiFi 30. The DPF control unit 34 of the video-enabled digital photo frame 28 receives the video information created by the external image processing company 2 in this way and stores it in the storage unit 32. As described above, the DPF control unit 34 and the storage unit 32 operate as video information acquisition functions to acquire video from a single still image. As a result, the occupant of the AA room 18 can view videos created from still images of themselves, their family, friends, etc. from their younger days, for which no videos exist, on the video-enabled digital photo frame 28 placed in the AA room 18.
[0038] As described above, the DPF control unit 34 of the video-compatible digital photo frame 28 has a CPU, and the actual operation of the video information acquisition function is the program data executed by this CPU. By receiving such program data from the image processing company 2 and installing it, the functions proposed by the present invention can be added to an existing image information display device. In other words, by providing the program data of the present invention, the image processing company 2 can undertake the construction of a service system from order placement to processing and delivery for creating video information from a single still image, as well as the execution of individual image creation services.
[0039] As described above, the video-enabled digital photo frame 28 is connected to a microphone 42 and a camera 44, and constitutes a feedback acquisition means for obtaining feedback information from residents who are viewers. This feedback function can also be achieved by program data, specifically by adding a function to the program data to transmit feedback information to the image processing company 2. As described above, this feedback information is for the image processing company 2 to modify the video information. This allows the external image processing company 2, which receives orders to create video information, to modify the video based on the feedback information from viewers and provide viewers with a more appropriate video.
[0040] Regarding the use of the feedback function, in addition to providing feedback to the image processing company 2 mentioned above, it can also be used to control the display of image information on the display screen 38 within the video-enabled digital photo frame 28. This function can also be achieved by the program data of the memory unit 32 executed by the CPU of the DPF control unit 34. Specifically, the DPF control unit 34 of the video-enabled digital photo frame 28 controls the video display based on feedback information from the viewer obtained from the microphone 42, camera 44, or both, and can provide images to the viewer more appropriately. More specifically, the memory unit 32 stores multiple different videos created from the same still image, and the program data determines the viewer's level of enjoyment or displeasure based on the feedback information and selects one of the multiple different videos. Alternatively, the program data determines the viewer's level of enjoyment or displeasure based on the feedback information and changes the playback order of the multiple different videos. In this way, the video-enabled digital photo frame 28 can select or change the combination of multiple different videos created from the same still image based on feedback information from the viewer, and more appropriately soothe the viewer.
[0041] Specifically, in image processing company 2, which receives an order that includes still image information, the processing control unit 12 creates video information. This video information is created by first creating multiple different short videos from the same still image, and then joining these multiple different videos together at the same still image portion to create a video that is longer than multiple individual videos. Furthermore, even when joining videos in this way, the processing control unit 12 can receive feedback from residents who view the long video provided on a video-compatible digital photo frame 28, specifically feedback from a microphone that picks up the viewer's voice or a camera that captures the viewer's facial expressions, and thereby modify the long video to be more suitable for the viewer's relaxation.
[0042] As described above, in the video-enabled digital photo frame 28, the WiFi 30 acts as the communication unit with the external image processing company 2, communicating via the WiFi router 16 from the management control unit 22 of the management center 14 to the image processing control unit 12 of the image processing company 2 via the internet 4. In addition, in the video-enabled digital photo frame 28, the storage unit 32 acts as the image information storage unit, and the DPF control unit 34 acts as the control unit that controls the playback of image information, controlling the display screen 38 that plays and displays the image information. The DPF control unit 34 has a CPU that controls the functions of the entire device, and the storage unit 32 is a program data storage unit that stores program data for this CPU. Furthermore, as explained above, the video-enabled digital photo frame 28 has a video information acquisition function that sends an order from the WiFi 30 to the image processing company 2 to create video information based on a single still image stored in the storage unit 32, and receives the video information created by the image processing company 2 via the WiFi 30 and stores it in the storage unit 32.
[0043] The program data that causes the DPF control unit 34 of the video-compatible digital photo frame 28 to perform such a function is stored in the storage unit 13 of the image processing company 2, and by providing this to the video-compatible digital photo frame 28, it can be stored in the storage unit 32. In other words, the storage unit 13 of the image processing company 2 is a storage medium that prepares the program data for the video information acquisition function unit in the system of the present invention. This program data is then provided to the video-compatible digital photo frame 28.
[0044] Furthermore, by utilizing such a storage medium, the video information acquisition function proposed by the present invention can be installed on an existing image information display device. Specifically, as described above, the program data for the video information acquisition function is stored in the storage medium 13 within the image processing company 2, which is sold by the image processing company 2 via the internet and downloaded and installed to the storage unit 32 of the video-compatible digital photo frame 28 via WiFi 30. The program data for the video information acquisition function stored in the storage medium 13 can also be provided to the video-compatible digital photo frame 28 by storing it on a USB memory or DVD sold by the image processing company 2. In this case, the USB memory or DVD sold by the image processing company 2 becomes the storage medium for the system of the present invention. Since the program data for the video information acquisition function is stored in the storage unit 32 of the video-compatible digital photo frame 28 after installation, the storage unit 32 becomes the program data storage unit for the system of the present invention.
[0045] Furthermore, as described above, the video-enabled digital photo frame 28 has a feedback acquisition means for acquiring feedback information from viewers of video information. More specifically, the program data provided by the image processing company 2 includes a function that causes the image processing company 2 to send information via WiFi 30 for modifying the video information based on this feedback information. As described above, the feedback means is a microphone 42 that picks up the viewer's voice or a camera 44 that detects the viewer's facial expressions. The video information to be modified can be, as described above, a video created by joining together multiple different videos generated from the same still image at the same still image portion, and which is longer than multiple individual videos.
[0046] In the system of the present invention, by linking the functions of the video-enabled digital photo frame 28 with the two-way communication function of the nurse call 26, it is possible to provide even more comprehensive care to the AA room 18. Specifically, if the video-enabled digital photo frame 28 automatically starts playing a video in conjunction with the operation of the call button on the nurse call 26, it is possible to alleviate the time that residents spend idly while waiting for a response to their nurse call, or until a staff member who received the nurse call actually rushes to the AA room 18. In other words, residents can watch a video while waiting for a response to their nurse call, which is expected to distract them and alleviate their frustration. Furthermore, the displayed video can be created using still images of the resident, their family, friends, etc., from their younger days, so it may be more relatable to the resident's feelings than a television program that is unrelated to them.
[0047] Furthermore, according to the system of the present invention, the nurse call center 24 controls video playback on the video-enabled digital photo frame 28. Specifically, if a nurse call is made but the nurse cannot immediately respond due to attending to other residents, the nurse call system can not only verbally convey a request for the resident to wait, but also alleviate the resident's frustration by playing a video on the video-enabled digital photo frame 28. In this case, the nurse call center 24 can also switch videos so that a pre-selected appropriate video is played on the video-enabled digital photo frame 28. Such videos can include not only images of residents, but also videos of staff members of nursing home A 8 who are responding to nurse calls, which can be stored in the video-enabled digital photo frame 28 and selected for playback. Alternatively, the nurse call center 24 may control playback on the video-enabled digital photo frame 28 based on feedback of the resident's voice and facial expressions received via WiFi 16. [Examples]
[0048] Figure 2 is a block diagram showing the entire image information display system according to Embodiment 2 of the present invention. In Embodiment 2, the functions of ordering the creation of video information from a single still image, receiving video information created externally and storing it in a storage unit, and acquiring and utilizing feedback information from viewers of the video information are entrusted to a separate image information display auxiliary device 62. Such an image information display auxiliary device 62 is provided to the AA room 18 through a collaborating image processing company 2 or its arrangement. The image information display auxiliary device 62 then works in conjunction with a video-compatible digital photo frame 28 to achieve the same functions as in Embodiment 1. In this case, the video-compatible digital photo frame 28 may be a normal image information display device having an image information storage unit 32, a DPF control unit 34 that controls the playback of the image information in the storage unit 32, and a display screen 38 that plays back and displays the image information based on that control.
[0049] Other configurations related to the normal operation of the video-enabled digital photo frame 28 in Figure 2, as well as other configurations within the system, are the same as those in Figure 1, so explanations are omitted unless necessary. Also, rooms AB 20 and nursing home B in Figure 1 have similar configurations, so for simplicity, they are not shown or explained in Figure 2.
[0050] In Figure 2, the image information display auxiliary device 62 has an auxiliary device control unit (hereinafter referred to as "ASST control unit") 64, which stores still images transferred from the storage unit 32 of the video-compatible digital photo frame 28 via wired or wireless connection in the storage unit 66. The ASST control unit 64 then performs the functions of an order unit, which sends an order to the image processing company 2 via Wi-Fi 68 to create video information based on a single still image stored in the storage unit 66, and a video information provision unit, which receives the video information created by the image processing company 2 via Wi-Fi 68 and stores it in the storage unit 66. The video stored in the storage unit 66 is transferred to the storage unit 32 and can be displayed on the display screen 38. In providing such orders and video information, the ASST control unit 64 can also function in cooperation with the video-compatible digital photo frame 28 to directly transmit a single still image stored in the storage unit 32 to the image processing company 2 and to receive the created video information and directly store it in the storage unit 32. As described above, the image information display auxiliary device 62 works in conjunction with a standard video-compatible digital photo frame 28 connected by wire or wireless to display video information created from a single still image.
[0051] The image information display auxiliary device 62 has a feedback acquisition means for acquiring feedback information from viewers of video information. Specifically, the feedback acquisition means is a microphone 70 and a camera 72 built into the image information display auxiliary device 62. Similar to Embodiment 1, the feedback information is used by the image processing company 2 to modify the video information, and the image information display auxiliary device 62 transmits the acquired feedback information to the image processing company 2 via WiFi 68. The image information display auxiliary device 62 also has an operation unit 74 for inputting necessary manual operation information.
[0052] Similar to Embodiment 1, the feedback information is also used to control the display of the display screen 38 of the video-enabled digital photo frame 28. Specifically, the ASST control unit 64 of the image information display auxiliary device 62 works in conjunction with the DPF control unit 34 of the video-enabled digital photo frame 28 to function as a control unit that controls the display of image information on the display screen 38 based on the feedback information. Also, similar to Embodiment 1, if the video information includes multiple different videos created from the same still image, the ASST control unit 64 works in conjunction with the DPF control unit 34 to select one of the multiple different videos based on the feedback information. Furthermore, the ASST control unit 64 works in conjunction with the DPF control unit 34 to change the playback order of the multiple different videos based on the feedback information.
[0053] Furthermore, the features of the present invention described above contribute to providing a video-enabled digital photo frame that soothes residents through bidirectional display control, not only when combined with video creation in cooperation with an external image processing company 2, but also when the function is limited to the AA room. In other words, the cooperation between the video-enabled digital photo frame 28 and the image information display auxiliary device 62 includes a video information storage unit 32, a DPF control unit 34 that controls the playback of the video information in the storage unit 32, a display screen 38 that plays and displays the video information based on the DPF control unit 34, and feedback acquisition means for a microphone 70 and a camera 72 that acquires feedback information from the viewer of the video. The ASST control unit 64 cooperates with the DPF control unit 34 and controls the playback of the video information based on the viewer's feedback information acquired by the feedback acquisition means. Through this cooperation between the video-enabled digital photo frame 28 and the image information display auxiliary device 62, the video display is controlled based on the viewer's feedback information, and a more appropriate video can be provided to the viewer. Specifically, the DPF control unit 34 continues playback while controlling playback based on the viewer's feedback information acquired by the feedback acquisition means after the start of video playback. The ASST control unit 64 then determines the viewer's level of pleasure or displeasure based on the viewer's feedback information acquired by the feedback acquisition means, and, based on this determination, cooperates with the DPF control unit 34 to control playback.
[0054] For example, when the video information in the memory unit 32 includes the same image that appears repeatedly, the ASST control unit 64 instructs the DPF control unit 34 to seamlessly change the video playback order by skipping from the same image portion to the same portion in a different location, based on the feedback information. Furthermore, when the video information in the memory unit 32 is created from a single still image, the ASST control unit 64 instructs the DPF control unit 34 to seamlessly change the video playback order by skipping from the portion of such a still image to a still image portion in a different location, based on the feedback information. Alternatively, the ASST control unit 64 instructs the DPF control unit 34 to change the playback speed of the video information based on viewer feedback information acquired by the feedback acquisition means.
[0055] The two-way display control for providing comfort to residents in the AA room has been explained above with reference to Embodiment 2 in Figure 2, but the same usefulness is also present in Embodiment 1 in Figure 1. In Embodiment 1 in Figure 1, all the functions of the two-way display control based on the feedback information explained in Figure 2 are handled by the DPF control unit 34, and if the video-compatible digital photo frame 28 is a standard one, the necessary functions can be added by installing program data stored on the storage medium into the storage unit 32. [Examples]
[0056] Figure 3 is a block diagram showing the entire image information display system according to Embodiment 3 of the present invention. Embodiment 3 achieves the same functions as Embodiments 1 and 2 by combining an image information display auxiliary device 76, which has a configuration almost identical to that of Embodiment 2 in Figure 2, with a regular television 78. In other words, the image information display auxiliary device 76 displays the video according to the present invention using the display screen 80 of the television 78.
[0057] As described above, the television 78 is a standard television, and its operation is controlled by the television control unit (hereinafter referred to as "TV control unit") 80, with the necessary program data for its operation stored in the memory unit 84. Residents or staff of the A nursing home 8 operate the television 78 by manually operating the control unit 86. Television programs are input from the tuner 88 to the TV control unit 82 via the input switching unit 90, and the image output is displayed on the display screen 80, while the audio output is output to the speaker 92. The TV control unit 82 is also connected to WiFi 94 and is internet-enabled.
[0058] In the image information display auxiliary device 76 of Embodiment 3 shown in Figure 3, the ASST control unit 96 combines the functions of the ASST control unit 64 and DPF control unit 34 in Embodiment 2 shown in Figure 2. Correspondingly, the storage unit 98 in the image information display auxiliary device 76 of Embodiment 3 also combines the functions of the storage unit 66 and storage unit 32 in Embodiment 2. In other words, the ordering and storage functions of video information, as well as the control functions of video information to be displayed, are all entrusted to the ASST control unit 96 and storage unit 98, and video information that can be directly used for display on the display screen 80 is supplied to the television 78 via the input switching unit 90. By providing an image information display auxiliary device 76 equipped with all the functions described in Embodiment 2 in this way, it becomes possible to provide and display video according to the present invention using the display screen 80 of a normal television 78. [Examples]
[0059] Figure 4 is a block diagram showing the entire image information display system according to Embodiment 4 of the present invention, in which the functions of the image information display auxiliary device 76 in Embodiment 3 are achieved by repurposing a smartphone 100. The smartphone 100 has a telephone communication function unit 102, a smartphone control unit (hereinafter referred to as "SP control unit") 102 including a CPU, and a storage unit 104 that stores program data necessary for the operation of the smartphone. The SP control unit 102 and the storage unit 104 achieve the functions of a normal smartphone and are also repurposed for the functions of the image information display auxiliary device described in Embodiment 3. The necessary program data is obtained from the image processing company 2 in the same manner as in Embodiment 1, and once installed, it functions in the same way as the image information display auxiliary device in Embodiment 3 in Figure 3. The operation unit 106, microphone 108, camera 110, and WiFi 112 are also basically provided for the functions of the smartphone, but are also repurposed for the same functions as the image information display auxiliary device in Embodiment 3 in Figure 3.
[0060] The smartphone 100 is equipped with a speaker 114 and a display screen 116 for its functions, but these can also be used for the functions of the present invention. In other words, if the speaker 114 and display screen 116 are also used for the functions of the present invention, the configuration will be equivalent to the video-compatible digital photo frame 28 in Embodiment 1 of Figure 1 with a microphone 42 and a camera 44 connected to it. In other words, if the video in Figure 4 is displayed using the display screen 116 instead of the television 78, it will be possible to achieve the same functions of the present invention as in Embodiment 1 of Figure 1 using only the smartphone 100. In this case, if a smaller display screen is acceptable, the television 78 will not be necessary in Figure 4. However, if all functions are to be achieved using only the smartphone 100, the resident must be proficient in using a smartphone and be in a physical condition that does not cause inconvenience. Each embodiment proposed in the present invention is based on various considerations to allow residents to enjoy videos without forcing them to perform complex operations.
[0061] The details of the function of Example 4 in Figure 4 are the same as those described in Example 1 in Figure 1 to Example 3 in Figure 3, so no further explanation is provided.
[0062] Figure 5 is an explanatory diagram of the video creation method used at image processing company 2, and is common to Examples 1 to 4. According to the video creation method of the present invention, as shown in Figure 5, multiple different videos 122, 124, 126, etc. are created based on the same still image 120. Video 122 consists of 6 frames from the 1st to the 6th frame, video 124 consists of 7 frames from the 7th to the 13th frame, and video 126 consists of 5 frames from the 14th to the 18th frame. In reality, more frames are created to obtain a smooth video, but the number of frames is reduced in the illustration for illustrative purposes. In the created video, for example, in video 122, the 1st frame is the closest to the original still image 120, the 2nd frame is the closest to the 1st frame, the 3rd frame is the closest to the 4th frame, and so on, with the image being changed little by little in sequence. This change is based on prompts given to the image generation AI6. For example, if the prompt is "smile," the images will change sequentially from the neutral-faced still image 120, with each frame gradually becoming a smile towards the 6th frame. When this is played back as a video, it will show the person who was neutral smiling. Similarly, in video 124, the 7th frame is the closest to the original still image 120, and in video 126, the 14th frame is the closest to the original still image 120.
[0063] Videos 122, 124, and 126 can be made different by changing the prompt to something like "smile," "sneer," "fake laugh," or "burst of laughter," and even with the same prompt, different results can be obtained through multiple trials. Also, videos 122, 124, and 126 are examples of different frame counts (video lengths), but these can also be selected as appropriate. However, since the source information is a single still image, if it becomes too long, it may deviate unnaturally from the original still image, and if deviation is avoided, it may become monotonous and repetitive. Furthermore, the length is related to the cost of creating the video, so it is necessary to consider the cost-effectiveness in creating a video that will satisfy the viewer.
[0064] Therefore, in this invention, first, multiple different short videos 122, 124, 126, etc. are created based on the same still image 120. Then, these multiple different short videos 122, 124, 126, etc. are shown to a viewer (for example, the person or a close relative of the person in the still image), and feedback information is obtained. Based on this feedback information, a video to be used is selected from the multiple different videos. This makes it possible to create an appropriate video based on the feedback information from the viewer. As already explained, the feedback information from the viewer can include, for example, the viewer's voice or facial expressions. If satisfaction is obtained for multiple videos based on such feedback, they can be combined to make a longer video. In this case, if the videos are combined using the same original still image portion, a seamless combination is possible. The above-mentioned feedback information from the viewer can be used to select the video to be used in such a combination.
[0065] According to the present invention, as shown in Figure 5, multiple different videos can be generated based on the same still image. First, a provisional video can be selected and shown to the viewer, and feedback information can be obtained from the viewer to determine its suitability. If the viewer is satisfied, the provisional video can be adopted as the final video; if the viewer is dissatisfied, it can be replaced with another video. Even through such replacement, it is possible to create an appropriate video. In this case as well, the feedback information from the viewer can be, for example, the viewer's voice or facial expressions. Furthermore, when seamlessly creating a video longer than the individual videos by connecting multiple different videos using the same still image portion, it is possible to improve the video to a longer version that meets the viewer's needs by replacing parts of it based on the feedback information.
[0066] Figure 6 is an explanatory diagram illustrating an example of a method for seamlessly creating a video longer than multiple individual videos by joining multiple different videos together using the same still image portion, and is common to Examples 1 to 4. In the method shown in Figure 6, multiple different videos 122, 124, 126, etc. are first created based on the same still image 120. Then, video 128 is created by playing video 122 in reverse. Similarly, video 130 is created by playing video 124 in reverse. Similarly, although not shown in the illustration, it is also possible to create a video by playing video 126 in reverse.
[0067] This allows, for example, video 122 to transition from a still image (e.g., a neutral face) shown as frame 0 to frames 1 through 6 (e.g., a smiling face), and then to return to still image 120 (e.g., a neutral face) by playing in reverse from frame 6 (e.g., a smiling face) back to frame 1. This makes it possible to seamlessly create a video that is twice as long, for example, a video that goes from a neutral face to a smiling face, and then back to a neutral face.
[0068] Similarly, in video 124, it is possible to seamlessly create a video twice as long, where the image transitions from frame 7 to frame 13 (for example, a different smile) based on a still image (for example, a neutral face), and then from frame 13 (for example, a different smile) it reverses back to frame 7, returning to still image 120 (for example).
[0069] Then, by connecting video 122, which returns to still image 120 as described above, to video 124, which starts from a still image, a long video can be seamlessly created, as shown in Figure 6, that starts from still image 120 (e.g., a neutral face), goes through the transitions of videos 122 and 128 (e.g., a first smile), returns to still image 120 (e.g., a neutral face), goes through the transitions of videos 124 and 130 (e.g., a second smile), and returns to still image 120 (e.g., a neutral face). From the viewer's perspective, this appears as a video of two smiles with different expressions without interruption, reducing the feeling of being shown a monotonous repetition. Furthermore, by connecting video 126 to still image 120 (e.g., a neutral face) that returns from video 130, and doing the same thing, an even longer and more varied video can be created. If there are many types of videos, a long and engaging video can be created from a single still image in the same way.
[0070] Furthermore, in the method shown in Figure 6, for example, if a still image 120 is created by gradually trimming the image based on video 128 and adopting this method, the possibility of noticing that video 128 is the reverse playback of video 122 is reduced, and the possibility of noticing that still image 120, which is returned after the reverse playback of video 128, is the same still image as the one at the start of video 122, is reduced. Similarly, if a still image 120 is created based on video 124, where the image gradually returns from a trimmed state until the trimming is resolved at the 13th frame, and this method is adopted, while the original video 130 is adopted, the possibility of noticing that video 130 is the reverse playback of video 124 is reduced, and the still image 120, which is returned after the reverse playback of video 130, is the same as the one at the start of video 122, so the appearance of the exact same still image is reduced from three times to two times, reducing the possibility of noticing that they are the same. The above is a simplified explanation of how to crop an image. By using cropping in this way, you can freely choose the cropping state of the restored still image, and it is also possible to avoid restoring the image to its exact same state.
[0071] While it is possible to create a long video by continuously changing and developing a single still image, even without using the method of this invention, excessive transformation can lead to a deviation from the original still image, resulting in an unnatural or jarring appearance. In contrast, the method of this invention avoids unnatural deviations by returning to the original still image, and also avoids monotony caused by repetition by connecting different videos. In other words, by keeping the individual videos short, it is possible to create a long video while preventing it from deviating too much from the original still image and developing into an unnatural-looking video. Furthermore, if the individual videos are short, the cost of creating them from a still image can be kept low.
[0072] Furthermore, in the method of the present invention, even if the number of videos used as source material is limited to, for example, five types, longer videos can be created by using each of them multiple times. In this case, to avoid monotony caused by the same video appearing multiple times, the monotony caused by regularity can be mitigated by randomizing the order in which different videos appear or by changing the frequency of appearance of individual videos.
[0073] Furthermore, to mitigate the monotony that can result from using the same video multiple times, when reversing one of the videos, start reversing from a different point. Also, for the same purpose, make sure the playback speed is different from the previous appearance. Needless to say, combining these techniques with the trimming method described above will further reduce monotony.
[0074] Figure 7 is an explanatory diagram of a method to alleviate monotony when the same video is used multiple times, and is common to Examples 1 to 4. As shown in Figure 7, in this method, a video 122a is created by taking the first four frames from video 122, which originally consisted of six frames, and then a video 132 is created by playing this video in reverse, leading to a still image 120. As a result, although the video material is the same, when viewed, the changes in facial expressions return to their original state midway through, so it is possible to provide something that is not a repetition of the same video.
[0075] Furthermore, Figure 7 shows that video 122b is created by playing the first four frames of video 122 at half speed. In this process, interpolation frames 1a, 2a, and 3a are created to prevent the images from skipping, resulting in a smooth video. Additionally, video 134 is created (video 132 may be reused) that plays at the original speed when played in reverse, thus creating variation in both forward and reverse directions. This variation can be such that the forward direction is at normal speed and the reverse playback is at half speed, or both forward and reverse playback are at half speed.
[0076] The above method involves thinning out frames to double the playback speed. For example, in video 122 and video 128, odd-numbered frames are thinned out, leaving frames 2, 4, and 6 in video 122, and frames 6, 4, and 2 in video 128. This makes the speed at which video 122 reaches frames 2 through 6 the same as the speed at which video 122a reaches frames 1 through 3, resulting in video 122's playback speed being double that of video 122a. Note that the above explanation simplifies the thinning method to show only simple cases of halving and doubling the speed, but the method and location of interpolation and thinning can be freely chosen, allowing for a variety of variations to mitigate monotonicity.
[0077] As described above, the method shown in Figure 7 avoids monotonous repetition even when using the same video, by changing the position of reverse playback or the playback speed, rather than simply repeating it. Furthermore, by combining this method with other videos as explained in Figure 6, and by changing the order and frequency of appearance of individual videos, as well as by trimming, even more diverse variations can be created.
[0078] The various features of the present invention described above can be applied in a variety of ways, regardless of the embodiments described above. For example, the linkage between a nurse call system and an image information display device can be enjoyed not only when displaying videos but also when displaying still images. In this case, the linkage with the nurse call system proposed by the present invention is possible not only with digital photo frames that can handle videos, such as the video-compatible digital photo frame 28, but also with digital photo frames that only support still images.
