Summary of the Invention

Problems to be Solved by the Invention

[0004] A sewing machine clamps and feeds a sewing object between a feed dog and a presser foot. A single-sided presser foot is often used for the purpose of sewing an end portion of a sewing object. For example, the single-sided presser foot is used for a zipper sewing operation. Therefore, in the sewing object, the region clamped between the single-sided presser foot and the feed dog is smaller than, for example, the region clamped between a zigzag presser foot and the feed dog. In the sewing object, the region clamped between the presser foot and the feed dog affects the feed performance. That is, the single-sided presser foot tends to have lower feed performance than the zigzag presser foot. In order to sufficiently exhibit the feed performance of the single-sided presser foot, it is desired to adjust the position of the presser foot relative to the feed dog and the presser bar. However, the single-sided presser foot described in Patent Document 1 cannot change its position relative to the feed dog and the presser bar. Accordingly, there is a problem that sufficient feed performance cannot be exhibited.

[0005] An object of the present invention is to provide a presser that contributes to pressing a sewing object so that the sewing object is appropriately fed by the feed dog of a sewing machine, and to provide a sewing machine.

Means for Solving the Problems

[0006] A presser foot according to a first aspect of the present invention comprises a presser foot and a presser holder connected to the presser foot and attachable to the presser bar of a sewing machine, wherein the presser foot has a presser plate extending in a first direction and a connecting portion connecting the presser plate to the presser holder, the presser plate has a first end which is one end in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction, a second end which is the other end in the second direction, a first recess that extends from the first end toward the second end, a second recess that extends from the second end toward the first end, a third end which is one end in the first direction, and a fourth end which is the other end in the first direction, and the presser holder has a mounting portion that can be attached to the presser bar, a main body portion connected to the connecting portion of the presser foot, a guide portion extending in a second direction which guides the main body portion to move in the second direction relative to the mounting portion, and a fixing portion that can fix the main body portion relative to the mounting portion. In the first direction, the first recess and the second recess are located between the third end and the connecting portion, and in the first direction, the connecting portion is located between the first recess and the second recess and the fourth end.

[0007] A sewing machine according to a second aspect of the present invention comprises a presser foot having a presser bar, a presser foot extending in a first direction, a presser holder connected to the presser foot and mounted on the presser bar, and a bed extending in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction, wherein the presser foot has a presser plate extending in the first direction and a connecting portion connecting the presser plate to the presser holder, the presser plate has a first end which is one end in the second direction, a second end which is the other end in the second direction, a first recess that is recessed from the first end toward the second end, a second recess that is recessed from the second end toward the first end, and one end in the first direction The retainer holder has a third end which is a part and a fourth end which is the other end in the first direction, and the retainer holder has a mounting part which can be attached to the retainer rod, a main body part which is connected to the connecting part of the retainer foot, a guide part which extends in the second direction and guides the main body part so as to be movable in the second direction with respect to the retainer rod, and a fixing part which can fix the main body part with respect to the mounting part, wherein in the first direction the first recess and the second recess are located between the third end and the connecting part, and in the first direction the connecting part is located between the first recess and the second recess and the fourth end.

[0008] According to the first and second embodiments, the presser foot connected to the main body of the presser foot holder is movable in a second direction relative to the mounting part fixed to the presser foot bar. Therefore, the presser foot contributes to making the position of the presser foot relative to the presser foot bar adjustable. The presser foot contributes to holding the object to be sewn so that the object to be sewn is properly fed by the feed dogs of the sewing machine. [Brief explanation of the drawing]

[0010] <Sewing Machine 1> A sewing machine 1 and presser foot 2 according to one embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings. In Figure 1, the upper left, lower right, lower left, upper right, top, and bottom refer to the left, right, front, rear, top, and bottom of the sewing machine 1 and presser foot 2, respectively.

[0011] As shown in Figure 1, the sewing machine 1 includes a bed 11, a pillar 12, an arm 13, and a head 14. The bed 11 is the base of the sewing machine 1 extending in the left-right direction. The pillar 12 is erected upward from the right end portion of the bed 11. An LCD 15 is connected to the front surface of the pillar 12. The arm 13 extends leftward from the upper end of the pillar 12. The pillar 12 faces the bed 11 in the up-down direction. The head 14 is located at the left end of the arm 13.

[0012] As shown in Figure 2, a needle bar 14A and a presser bar 14B are connected to the head 14. The needle bar 14A and the presser bar 14B extend in the up-down direction. The lower ends of the needle bar 14A and the presser bar 14B protrude downward from the lower end of the head 14.

[0013] A sewing needle S is detachably attached to the lower end of the needle bar 14A. When sewing a sewing target object, the needle bar 14A is driven to reciprocate in the up-down direction. The needle bar 14A is movable in the left-right direction according to user settings. The setting in which the needle bar 14A is positioned at the center in the left-right direction is referred to as "center baseline setting". The setting in which the needle bar 14A is positioned on the left side is referred to as "left baseline setting". The setting in which the needle bar 14A is positioned on the right side is referred to as "right baseline setting".

[0014] The presser bar 14B is located behind the needle bar 14A. A presser foot 2 is attached to the lower end of the presser bar 14B. The presser foot 2 is fixed to the presser bar 14B by a thumb screw 19.

[0015] As shown in Figure 3 and Figure 14, a throat plate 16 is located on the upper surface of the bed 11. The throat plate 16 is a plate surface perpendicular to the up-down direction. A needle hole 16H and a feed dog hole 160 are formed in the throat plate 16. The needle hole 16H and the feed dog hole 160 penetrate the throat plate 16 in the up-down direction.

[0016] The needle hole 16H is an elongated hole extending in the left-right direction and is curved. When sewing is executed under the center baseline setting, the sewing needle S passes through the center of the needle hole 16H in the left-right direction. When sewing is executed under the left baseline setting, the sewing needle S passes through the left end portion of the needle hole 16H. When sewing is executed under the right baseline setting, the sewing needle S passes through the right end portion of the needle hole 16H.

[0017] The feed tooth hole 160 includes a plurality of central holes 16C, a left hole 16L, and a right hole 16R. The plurality of central holes 16C, the left hole 16L, and the right hole 16R are elongated holes extending in the front-to-back direction. The left hole 16L is located to the left of the plurality of central holes 16C. The right hole 16R is located to the right of the plurality of central holes 16C. In Figure 3, the plurality of central holes 16C are located below the retainer 2 and are hidden.

[0018] The bed 11 houses the bobbin, feed dog 18, etc., below the needle plate 16.

[0019] The bobbin holds the bobbin thread. The bobbin intertwines the bobbin thread with the upper thread to form a stitch when the sewing needle S moves through the needle eye 16H into the inside of the bed 11.

[0020] The feed dogs 18 move the sewing object M placed on the bed 11 forward. The feed dogs 18 are driven by a feed mechanism in the bed 11 and repeatedly perform upward, forward, downward, and backward movements. In the upward movement, the feed dogs 18 move upward relative to the feed dog hole 160 and make contact with the underside of the sewing object M. In the forward movement, the feed dogs 18 move forward and feed the sewing object M forward. In the downward movement, the feed dogs 18 move downward relative to the feed dog hole 160 and move away from the underside of the sewing object M. In the backward movement, the feed dogs 18 move backward below the needle plate 16.

[0021] As shown in Figures 14 and 15, the feed teeth 18 include a plurality of central feed teeth 18C, left feed teeth 18L, and right feed teeth 18R. The plurality of central feed teeth 18C, left feed teeth 18L, and right feed teeth 18R extend in the front-rear direction. The plurality of central feed teeth 18C, left feed teeth 18L, and right feed teeth 18R have a plurality of teeth on their upper surface. The plurality of central feed teeth 18C move up and down relative to a plurality of central holes 16C of the feed tooth hole 160. The left feed teeth 18L move up and down relative to the left hole 16L of the feed tooth hole 160. The right feed teeth 18R move up and down relative to the right hole 16R of the feed tooth hole 160. The front-rear lengths of the left feed teeth 18L and right feed teeth 18R are longer than the front-rear lengths of the plurality of central feed teeth 18C. The left feed dog 18L and the right feed dog 18R have a larger area for gripping the sewing object M between the presser foot 2 and the feed dogs 18 compared to the central feed dog 18C. In other words, the left feed dog 18L and the right feed dog 18R have higher feeding performance compared to the multiple central feed dogs 18C. In Figure 3, the multiple central feed dogs 18C are located below the presser foot 2 and are hidden.

[0022] The distance between the left feed tooth 18L and the right feed tooth 18R of the feed tooth 18 is denoted as L1. More specifically, L1 is the distance between the left end of the left feed tooth 18L and the right end of the right feed tooth 18R. The distance between the front end and rear end of the feed tooth hole 160 is denoted as L4. Distance L4 corresponds to the distance in the front-rear direction within the movable range in which the left feed tooth 18L and the right feed tooth 18R can move.

[0023] <Pressure 2> The presser foot 2 suppresses the lifting of the object being sewn during sewing by pressing it down from above. The presser foot 2 presses the object being sewn against the feed dogs 18 when the feed dogs 18 are moving forward. The presser foot 2 supports the feeding of the object being sewn by the feed dogs 18. As shown in Figures 4 to 11, the presser foot 2 has a presser foot foot 2A and a presser foot holder 2B.

[0024] <Pressing foot 2A> As shown in Figure 4, the retaining leg 2A has a retaining plate 3A and a connecting part 3B.

[0025] The retaining plate 3A includes a rectangular plate body 31 that is partially curved. The longer side of the plate body 31 extends in the front-to-back direction. The plate body 31 includes a flat section 30A, a front curved section 30B, and a rear curved section 30C. The flat section 30A is planar and perpendicular to the vertical direction. The length of the flat section 30A in the front-to-back direction is approximately 27 mm, for example. The front curved section 30B is located in front of the flat section 30A and curves upward. The inclination angle of the front curved section 30B with respect to the horizontal plane is approximately 37 degrees, for example. The rear curved section 30C is located behind the flat section 30A and curves upward. The length of the front curved section 30B in the front-to-back direction is greater than the length of the rear curved section 30C in the front-to-back direction.

[0026] The left end of the plate 31 is called the "first end 31L". The right end of the plate 31 is called the "second end 31R". The front end of the plate 31 is called the "third end 31F". The rear end of the plate 31 is called the "fourth end 31B". The third end 31F is located above the fourth end 31B. As shown in Figure 7, a hypothetical line segment passing through the center of the plate 31 in the left-right direction is called the "center line C".

[0027] As shown in Figure 3, the distance in the left-right direction between the first end 31L and the second end 31R of the plate body 31 is denoted as L2. Distance L2 is smaller than the distance L1 in the left-right direction between the left feed tooth 18L and the right feed tooth 18R of the feed tooth 18. As shown in Figures 14 and 15, the distance in the front-rear direction between the third end 31F and the fourth end 31B of the plate body 31 is denoted as L5. Distance L5 is larger than the distance L4 in the front-rear direction between the front end and the rear end of the feed tooth hole 160. In other words, distance L5 is larger than the distance L4 in the front-rear direction of the movable range of the left feed tooth 18L and the right feed tooth 18R.

The second main body 52 extends diagonally downward and forward. A through hole is formed at the front end of the second main body 52, penetrating in the left-right direction. The connecting shaft 39 of the connecting part 3B of the retaining leg 2A is inserted through the through hole in the second main body 52. The retaining plate 3A of the retaining leg 2A is connected to the second main body 52 by the connecting part 3B. The retaining plate 3A is not detachable from the main body 5A. The retaining plate 3A is rotatable about the connecting shaft 39 relative to the main body 5A.

[0056] The guide portion 5B is a cylindrical shaft. The guide portion 5B extends in the left-right direction. The left end of the guide portion 5B is inserted through and fixed to a through hole 56 in the first wall portion 51L of the main body portion 5A. The right end of the guide portion 5B is inserted through and fixed to a through hole 56 in the second wall portion 51R of the main body portion 5A.

[0057] The guide portion 5B is inserted through the guide hole 48 of the mounting portion 4. The mounting portion 4 is located between the first wall portion 51L and the second wall portion 51R of the main body portion 5A in the left-right direction. The mounting portion 4 is movable in the left-right direction along the guide portion 5B. The guide portion 5B guides the main body portion 5A so that it can move in the left-right direction relative to the mounting portion 4.

[0058] The fixing part 6 is a thumb screw. As shown in Figures 10 and 11, the fixing part 6 includes the operating part 61, the first shaft 62, and the second shaft 63.

[0059] The operating section 61 corresponds to the head of the thumb screw and is operated by the user. The operating section 61 is located behind the extension 51B of the main body 5A. In the front-to-back direction, the operating section 61 is located behind the fourth end 31B of the plate body 31 of the retaining leg 2A. As shown in Figure 7, when viewed from above, the operating section 61 coincides with the center line C passing through the center of the plate body 31 in the left-to-right direction. Therefore, when viewed from above, the operating section 61 coincides with the plate body 31 of the retaining leg 2A in the front-to-back direction.

[0060] As shown in Figures 10 and 11, the first shaft 62 is a cylindrical body and extends forward from the operating section 61. The first shaft 62 is inserted through the elongated hole 57 of the extension section 51B. The first shaft 62 is inserted through the upper and lower ends of the elongated hole 57 with a small gap between them. When the mounting section 4 is not attached to the retaining rod 14B, the rotation of the fixing section 6 around the first shaft 62 is suppressed by stopping when the first shaft 62 comes into contact with the extension section 51B.

[0061] The first shaft 62 is located to the right of the first restrictor 57L shown in Figure 8. The first shaft 62 is located to the left of the second restrictor 57R shown in Figure 8. The diameter of the first shaft 62 corresponds to the distance between the left end and the right end of the first shaft 62, and the distance between the upper end and the lower end of the first shaft 62. As shown in Figures 10 and 11, the diameter of the first shaft 62 is denoted as L7.

[0062] The second shaft 63 is a screw shaft and extends forward from the front end of the first shaft 62. The second shaft 63 is screwed into the screw hole 49 of the mounting part 4. The fixing part 6 and the mounting part 4 are in contact via the second shaft 63 and the screw hole 49.

[0063] When the fixing part 6 rotates counterclockwise around the first shaft 62 and the second shaft 63, it moves rearward relative to the mounting part 4. As shown in Figure 10, the front end of the second shaft 63 and the guide part 5B are separated. The mounting part 4 is movable left and right relative to the guide part 5B. The mounting part 4 is movable to the left relative to the guide part 5B until the fixing part 6 contacts the first restricting part 57L. The mounting part 4 is movable to the right relative to the guide part 5B until the fixing part 6 contacts the second restricting part 57R.

[0064] When the fixing part 6 rotates counterclockwise and clockwise around the first shaft 62 and the second shaft 63, it moves forward relative to the mounting part 4. As shown in Figure 11, the front end of the second shaft 63 and the guide part 5B are in close proximity. When the front end of the second shaft 63 and the guide part 5B are in contact, the mounting part 4 becomes unable to move left or right relative to the guide part 5B.

[0065] <Attaching presser foot 2 to sewing machine 1> The user brings the presser foot 2 close to the presser bar 14B from the left side of the sewing machine 1. The presser bar 14B makes contact with the right side of the first base portion 41 of the mounting portion 4. The front-to-back position of the mounting portion 4 relative to the presser bar 14B is positioned by the positioning portions 42, 43, and 44.

[0066] As shown in Figure 2, the user inserts the screw shaft of the thumb screw 19 into the screw hole of the retaining rod 14B from the left. The screw shaft passes to the left through the area enclosed by the recess 45 of the mounting portion 4 of the retainer 2. The user rotates the operating part of the thumb screw 19 to screw the screw shaft of the thumb screw 19 into the screw hole of the retaining rod 14B. The left end of the retaining rod 14B and the operating part of the thumb screw 19 clamp the first base portion 41 of the mounting portion 4. The retainer 2 is attached to the retaining rod 14B and fixed by the thumb screw 19.

[0067] <Movement of the retaining foot 2A relative to the retaining bar 14B> The user rotates the operating part 61 of the fixed part 6 counterclockwise. As shown in Figure 11, the fixed part 6 moves backward relative to the mounting part 4. The front end of the second shaft 63 separates from the guide part 5B. The mounting part 4 becomes movable left and right relative to the main body part 5A to which the guide part 5B is fixed.

[0068] The user moves the main body 5A from side to side. The retaining foot 2A connected to the main body 5A moves from side to side relative to the mounting part 4. That is, the retaining foot 2A connected to the main body 5A moves from side to side relative to the retaining rod 14B to which the mounting part 4 is fixed.

[0069] Figure 12 shows the state in which the main body 5A has moved to the left relative to the retaining rod 14B. The first shaft 62 of the fixing part 6 is in contact with the second restricting part 57R of the main body 5A. The second mounting part 4B of the mounting part 4 is in contact with the second wall part 51R. The left-right position of the main body 5A when the first shaft 62 of the fixing part 6 is in contact with the second restricting part 57R is called the "first position". Figure 14 shows a simplified view of the retainer 2 in the same state as in Figure 12, that is, the state in which the main body 5A of the retainer 2 is in the first position.

[0070] As shown in Figure 14, with the main body 5A in the first position, the first end 31L of the plate body 31 of the presser foot 3A and the left end of the left feed dog 18L overlap in the vertical direction. The through hole 33 of the presser foot 2 is located above the left end of the needle hole 16H of the needle plate 16. The second recess 32R of the presser foot 2 is located above the left-right center of the needle hole 16H of the needle plate 16. The presser foot 2 overlaps the left hole 16L and the left feed dog 18L in the vertical direction. That is, the object to be sewn can be held between the presser foot 2 and the left feed dog 18L.

[0071] Figure 13 shows the state in which the main body 5A has moved to the right relative to the retaining rod 14B. The fixing part 6 is in contact with the first restricting part 57L of the main body 5A. The second mounting part 4B of the mounting part 4 is not in contact with the first wall part 51L. The left-right position of the main body 5A when the first shaft 62 of the fixing part 6 is in contact with the first restricting part 57L is called the "second position". Figure 15 shows a simplified view of the retainer 2 in the same state as in Figure 13, that is, the state in which the main body 5A of the retainer 2 is in the second position.

[0072] As shown in Figure 15, with the main body 5A in the second position, the second end 31R of the plate body 31 of the presser foot 3A and the left end of the right feed dog 18R overlap in the vertical direction. The through hole 33 of the presser foot 2 is located above the right end of the needle hole 16H of the needle plate 16. The first recess 32L of the presser foot 2 is located above the left-right center of the needle hole 16H of the needle plate 16. The presser foot 2 overlaps the right hole 16R and the right feed dog 18R in the vertical direction. That is, the object to be sewn can be held between the presser foot 2 and the right feed dog 18R.

[0073] As shown in Figures 12 and 13, the value obtained by dividing the left-right distance L7 between the left end and right end of the first axis 62 of the fixing part 6 by the left-right distance L6 between the first restricting part 57L and the second restricting part 57R represents the maximum left-right movement distance M1 of the main body part 5A relative to the mounting part 4. The value obtained by dividing the left-right distance L1 between the left feed tooth 18L and the right feed tooth 18R of the feed teeth 18 by the left-right distance L2 between the first end 31L and the second end 31R of the retaining plate 3A represents the maximum left-right movement distance M2 of the retaining plate 3A connected to the main body part 5A. The maximum movement distance M1 and the maximum movement distance M2 are equal.

[0074] Figure 3 shows the main body 5A in the central position. The central position is the midpoint between the first position and the second position in the left-right direction.

[0075] As shown in Figure 12, even when the main body 5A is in the first position, the operating part 61 overlaps with the plate 31 of the pressing foot 2A in the front-to-back direction. As shown in Figure 13, even when the main body 5A is in the second position, the operating part 61 overlaps with the plate 31 of the pressing foot 2A in the front-to-back direction. As shown in Figure 3, even when the main body 5A is in the central position, the operating part 61 overlaps with the plate 31 of the pressing foot 2A in the front-to-back direction. In other words, the fixing part 6 overlaps with the plate 31 of the pressing foot 2A in the front-to-back direction, regardless of the position of the presser foot 2.

[0076] After the user moves the retaining foot 2A to the desired left-right position, the user rotates the operating part 61 of the fixing part 6 clockwise. The fixing part 6 moves forward relative to the mounting part 4. As shown in Figure 10, the front end of the second shaft 63 comes into contact with the guide part 5B. The main body 5A, to which the guide part 5B is fixed, becomes immovable relative to the mounting part 4. That is, the main body 5A, to which the guide part 5B is fixed, becomes immovable relative to the retaining rod 14B. The left-right position of the retaining foot 2A relative to the retaining rod 14B is fixed.

[0077] As shown in Figure 3, when sewing is performed by a sewing machine 1 with a central baseline setting while the main body 5A of the presser foot 2 is in the center position, the sewing needle S passes through the through hole 33 of the presser foot 2A. When sewing is performed by a sewing machine 1 with a left baseline setting while the main body 5A of the presser foot 2 is in the center position, the sewing needle S passes through the first recess 32L of the presser foot 2A. When sewing is performed by a sewing machine 1 with a right baseline setting while the main body 5A of the presser foot 2 is in the center position, the sewing needle S passes through the second recess 32R of the presser foot 2A.

[0078] As shown in Figure 12, when sewing is performed by a sewing machine 1 with the left baseline setting enabled, with the main body 5A of the presser foot 2 in the first position, the sewing needle S passes through the through hole 33 of the presser foot 2A. When sewing is performed by a sewing machine 1 with the center baseline setting enabled, with the main body 5A of the presser foot 2 in the first position, the sewing needle S passes through the second recess 32R of the presser foot 2A.

[0079] As shown in Figure 13, when sewing is performed by a sewing machine 1 with the main body 5A of the presser foot 2 set to the second position and the right baseline setting is enabled, the sewing needle S passes through the through hole 33 of the presser foot 2A. When sewing is performed by a sewing machine 1 with the main body 5A of the presser foot 2 set to the second position and the center baseline setting is enabled, the sewing needle S passes through the first recess 32L of the presser foot 2A.

[0080] <Operation and effects of this embodiment> The mounting portion 4 of the presser foot 2, which is fixed to the presser bar 14B, is guided in the left-right direction by the guide portion 5B. Therefore, the presser foot 2A, which is connected to the main body portion 5A of the presser holder 2B, can move in the left-right direction relative to the mounting portion 4. Thus, the presser foot 2 contributes to making the position of the presser foot 2A relative to the presser bar 14B adjustable. The presser foot 2 contributes to holding the object to be sewn so that the object to be sewn is properly fed by the feed dogs 18 of the sewing machine 1.

[0081] Figure 17 is a simplified diagram showing the presser foot 8A, feed dog holes 160, and sewing needle S when the presser foot 8, which is a zigzag presser foot, is attached to the sewing machine 1. The length of the presser plate 81 of the presser foot 8A in the left-right direction is the same as the distance L1 corresponding to the length of the feed dog holes 160 in the left-right direction. The left feed dog 18L and the right feed dog 18R can grip the object to be sewn M together with the presser plate 81. The presser foot 8 can use the left feed dog 18L and the right feed dog 18R when feeding the object to be sewn M.

[0082] The presser foot plate 81 is provided with a through hole 83 through which a sewing needle S can pass. The sewing needle S shown in Figure 17 passes through the center of the through hole 83 and the needle hole 16H in the left-right direction. The sewing needle S may also pass through the left end of the through hole 83 and the needle hole 16H, or the right end of the through hole 83 and the needle hole 16H.

[0083] When a user is sewing a zipper, they want to sew the edge Me of the object M, which is near the zipper hardware. However, as shown in Figure 17 with the zigzag presser foot 8, if the presser plate 81 is located in an area adjacent to the through hole 83 and needle hole 16H in the left-right direction, the presser plate 81 will interfere with the zipper hardware.

[0084] Figure 16 is a simplified diagram showing the presser foot 7A, feed dog hole 160, and sewing needle S when a conventional single-sided presser foot 7 is attached to the sewing machine 1. The presser foot plate 71 of the presser foot 7A has a first recess 72L and a second recess 72R through which the sewing needle S can pass. The first recess 72L and the second recess 72R are separated in the left-right direction. The first recess 72L is located at the left end of the presser foot plate 71. The second recess 72R is located at the right end of the presser foot plate 71. The first recess 72L overlaps the left end of the needle hole 16H in the vertical direction. The second recess 72R overlaps the right end of the needle hole 16H in the vertical direction. In the presser foot 7, there is no presser foot plate 71 in the area adjacent to the left of the first recess 72L. In the presser foot 7, there is no presser foot plate 71 in the area adjacent to the right of the second recess 72R.

[0085] As shown in Figure 16, when a user sews on a zipper, the sewing needle S passes through the second recess 72R. Since there is no presser foot in the area adjacent to the right of the second recess 72R, there is little possibility of interference even if the zipper hardware is placed there. Therefore, the user can install the zipper smoothly. For this reason, the presser foot 7, which is a single-sided presser foot, is often used when installing zippers.

[0086] Like the conventional single-sided presser foot 7, the length of the presser plate 71 in the left-right direction is shorter than the distance L1 corresponding to the left-right length of the feed dog hole 160. The left feed dog 18L and the right feed dog 18R do not overlap with the presser plate 71 in the vertical direction. In other words, the presser foot 7 cannot grip the sewing object M together with the left feed dog 18L and the right feed dog 18R. The presser foot 7 cannot use the left feed dog 18L and the right feed dog 18R when feeding the sewing object M. Therefore, conventional single-sided presser feet have lower feeding performance compared to zigzag presser feet.

[0087] For example, when the user uses the presser foot 2 to sew a zipper, they move the main body 5A to the first or second position.

[0088] Figure 14 is a simplified diagram of the presser foot 2, feed dog hole 160, and sewing needle S when the main body 5A is in the first position. The user places the zipper hardware to the right of the presser foot plate 3A and forms a stitch near the zipper hardware. The sewing needle S passes through the second recess 32R. Similar to conventional single-sided presser feet, there is no presser foot plate 3A in the area adjacent to the right of the second recess 32R. Therefore, the presser foot 2 is less likely to interfere with the zipper hardware. Because the main body 5A has moved to the first position, the left feed dog 18L overlaps with the presser foot plate 3A in the vertical direction. The presser foot 2 can use the left feed dog 18L when feeding the sewing object M. Therefore, the presser foot 2 has higher feeding performance than conventional single-sided presser feet.

[0089] Figure 15 is a simplified diagram of the presser foot 2, feed dog hole 160, and sewing needle S when the main body 5A is in the second position. The user places the zipper hardware to the left of the presser foot plate 3A and forms a stitch near the zipper hardware. The sewing needle S passes through the first recess 32L. Similar to conventional single-sided presser feet, there is no presser foot plate 3A in the area adjacent to the left of the first recess 32L. Therefore, the presser foot 2 is less likely to interfere with the zipper hardware. Because the main body 5A has moved to the second position, the right feed dog 18R overlaps with the presser foot plate 3A in the vertical direction. The presser foot 2 can use the right feed dog 18R when feeding the workpiece. Therefore, the presser foot 2 has higher feeding performance than conventional single-sided presser feet.

[0090] The presser foot 2 helps to prevent the presser foot 2A from interfering with the zipper hardware while forming a stitch near the zipper hardware and performing sewing. When the main body 5A is in the first position, the presser foot 2A presses the workpiece against the central feed dog 18C and the left feed dog 18L. When the main body 5A is in the second position, the presser foot 2A presses the workpiece against the central feed dog 18C and the right feed dog 18R. Regardless of whether the main body 5A is in the first or second position, the presser foot 2 helps the sewing machine 1 to properly feed the workpiece with the feed dogs 18.

[0091] The sewing machine 1 can perform sewing by passing the sewing needle S through the through hole 33 of the presser foot 2A, regardless of whether the main body 5A is in the first or second position. The sewing machine 1 uses the presser foot 2A to press down on both the left and right sides of the sewing position of the object to be sewn. The presser foot 2 contributes to pressing down on the object to be sewn by the presser foot 2A so that the object to be sewn is properly fed by the feed dogs 18.

[0092] The presser foot 2A's presser plate 3A extends in the front-rear direction relative to the connecting portion 3B. The plate body 31 of the presser plate 3A includes a flat portion 30A, a front curved portion 30B, and a rear curved portion 30C. The third end portion 31F of the plate body 31 is located above the fourth end portion 31B. Therefore, the presser foot 2 contributes to the sewing operation of the sewing machine 1 while guiding the object to be sewn with the front curved portion 30B. Specifically, when the sewing machine 1 sews the edge of a piping or the like with a large height, the presser foot 2 contributes to the sewing operation while guiding the piping or the like with the front curved portion 30B. In addition, the presser foot 2 contributes to holding the object to be sewn with the rear curved portion 30C. Therefore, even when the presser plate 3A rotates around the connecting shaft 39 in a direction in which the front curved portion 30B moves upward, the presser foot 2 contributes to pressing the object to be sewn against the feed dogs 18 of the sewing machine 1 with the rear curved portion 30C.

[0093] The presser foot 2A's presser plate 3A has a window 37. Since the window 37 is light-transmitting, it helps to visually confirm the sewing position of the object being sewn through the window 37.

[0094] The window section 37 is rectangular in shape. Therefore, the window section 37 contributes to improved visibility compared to a round window section.

[0095] The length of the window portion 37 in the front-to-back direction is longer than its length in the left-to-right direction. The direction in which the longer side of the window portion 37 extends is parallel to the direction of movement of the object being sewn, which is moved by the feed dogs 18. The sewing position of the object being sewn extends parallel to the direction of movement of the object being sewn. Therefore, by making the length of the window portion 37 in the front-to-back direction longer than its length in the left-to-right direction, the presser foot 2 contributes to improving the visibility of the sewing position of the object being sewn.

[0096] The mounting portion 4 has a guide hole 48 that penetrates in the left-right direction. The guide portion 5B is fixed to the main body portion 5A and is inserted through the guide hole 48. The mounting portion 4 is movable in the left-right direction along the guide portion 5B. Therefore, the guide portion 5B guides the main body portion 5A to move in the left-right direction relative to the mounting portion 4. The retainer 2 contributes to realizing a configuration for moving the retainer holder 2B in the left-right direction relative to the mounting portion 4 with a simple configuration.

[0097] The first shaft 62 of the fixing part 6 is located between the first restricting part 57L and the second restricting part 57R of the elongated hole 57 of the main body part 5A. The mounting part 4 is movable to the left until the first shaft 62 of the fixing part 6 contacts the first restricting part 57L, and is movable to the right until it contacts the second restricting part 57R. The retainer 2 contributes to defining the range of left-right movement of the retainer holder 2B relative to the mounting part 4 by the first restricting part 57L and the second restricting part 57R.

[0098] The presser foot 3A has a first protrusion 34L between the first recess 32L and the through hole 33. The first protrusion 34L has a first inclined portion 350 that is inclined toward both the through hole 33 and the first recess 32L. The presser foot 3A has a second protrusion 34R between the through hole 33 and the second recess 32R. The second protrusion 34R has a second inclined portion 360 that is inclined toward both the through hole 33 and the second recess 32R. Therefore, the presser foot 2, through the first protrusion 34L and the second protrusion 34R, contributes to guiding the sewing needle S into the through hole 33, the first recess 32L, and the second recess 32R.

[0099] The first inclined portion 350 of the first protrusion 34L has a first inclined surface 35A and a second inclined surface 35B. The second inclined portion 360 of the second protrusion 34R has a third inclined surface 36A and a fourth inclined surface 36B. The first inclined surface 35A and the third inclined surface 36A contribute to guiding the sewing needle S into the through hole 33. The second inclined surface 35B contributes to guiding the sewing needle S into the first recess 32L. The fourth inclined surface 36B contributes to guiding the sewing needle S into the second recess 32R.

[0100] The distance L21 between the first vertex 35P of the first protrusion 34L and the through hole 33 is greater than the distance L22 between the first vertex 35P and the first recess 32L. The distance L21 between the second vertex 36P of the second protrusion 34R and the through hole 33 is greater than the distance L22 between the second vertex 36P and the second recess 32R. Therefore, the presser foot 2 contributes to making it easier to guide the sewing needle S into the through hole 33 compared to guiding it into the first recess 32L or the second recess 32R.

[0101] The window portion 37 and the through hole 33 overlap in the front-to-back direction. Therefore, the presser foot 2 helps to easily grasp the relationship between the position of the sewing needle S inserted through the through hole 33 and the sewing position visible through the window portion 37.

[0102] Generally, the user holds the object being sewn near the presser foot 2A with their hand while sewing. The thumb screw, which is the fixing part 6, and the presser foot 2A overlap in the front-to-back direction. When the user sews, the fixing part 6 does not deviate from the presser foot 2A in the left-to-right direction, and the fixing part 6 does not easily interfere with sewing. The user can easily check the condition of the object being sewn and the stitches behind the presser bar 14B. The user's line of sight overlaps with the original presser bar 14B, so it does not obstruct the user's view. Therefore, the presser foot 2 contributes to the user performing sewing smoothly.

[0103] The connecting portion 3B securely connects the retaining plate 3A to the main body portion 5A, preventing it from detaching. Therefore, the retainer 2 contributes to preventing the retaining plate 3A from rattling relative to the main body portion 5A of the retaining holder 2B.

[0104] The length of the presser foot holder 2B in the left-right direction is less than the length of the presser foot plate 3A in the left-right direction. The presser foot 2 helps to press down on the fine details of the workpiece by the presser foot plate 3A by limiting the width of the presser foot plate 3A in the left-right direction.

[0105] With the main body 5A in the first position, the first end 31L of the plate body 31 of the presser foot 3A and the left end of the left feed dog 18L overlap in the vertical direction. With the main body 5A in the second position, the second end 31R of the plate body 31 of the presser foot 3A and the left end of the right feed dog 18R overlap in the vertical direction. Therefore, the presser foot 3A contributes to properly pressing the sewing material against the feed dog 18 regardless of the position of the guide portion 5B.

[0106] The maximum lateral movement distance M1 of the main body 5A relative to the mounting portion 4 is equal to the maximum lateral movement distance M2 of the retaining plate 3A relative to the feed teeth 18. Therefore, the retainer 2 contributes to preventing the retaining plate 3A from moving outward in the lateral direction relative to the feed teeth 18.

[0107] The front-to-back distance L5 of the presser foot 2A is greater than the front-to-back distance L4 of the movable range of the feed dog 18. Therefore, the presser plate 3A contributes to pressing the workpiece against the entire front-to-back movable range of the feed dog 18.

[0108] <Variation> The present invention is not limited to the above embodiments, and various modifications are possible. The guide portion 5B is fixed to the guide hole 48 of the mounting portion 4 and may be movable in the left-right direction relative to the through hole 56 of the main body portion 5A. The guide portion 5B may also be a rail having a groove into which the mounting portion 4 fits. The rail does not have to be supported at both ends in the left-right direction by the first wall portion 51L and the second wall portion 51R, but may be supported by the downward extension portion 51S or the rear extension portion 51B.

[0109] The connecting portion 3B of the retaining leg 2A and the second main body portion 52 of the retaining holder 2B may be formed from a common material. The retaining leg 2A may not be rotatable relative to the retaining holder 2B. The retaining plate 3A may not be curved and may extend in a flat shape overall.

[0110] The shape of the window portion 37 of the retaining plate 3A is not limited to a rectangle that is long in the front-to-back direction, but may be of other shapes. The window portion 37 may have multiple rectangular through holes that are long in the left-to-right direction. The multiple through holes may be arranged in the front-to-back direction. The window portion 37 of the retaining plate 3A does not have to be formed by through holes. The window portion 37 may be formed by a translucent portion provided on part or all of the retaining plate 3A. The translucent portion may be, for example, a transparent or semi-transparent portion. The semi-transparent portion may have a transmittance such that the state of the retaining plate 3A from above to below can be seen.

[0111] The first vertex 35P of the first protrusion 34L may be located at a portion equidistant from the through hole 33 and the first recess 32L. The second vertex 36P of the second protrusion 34R may be located at a portion equidistant from the through hole 33 and the second recess 32R. The first inclined surface 35A and the second inclined surface 35B of the first protrusion 34L may be curved. The first inclined surface 35A and the second inclined surface 35B of the first protrusion 34L may be perpendicular to the left-right direction. The third inclined surface 36A and the fourth inclined surface 36B of the second protrusion 34R may be curved. The third inclined surface 36A and the fourth inclined surface 36B of the second protrusion 34R may be perpendicular to the left-right direction.

[0112] The method for fixing the position of the main body 5A relative to the mounting part 4 is not limited to the above embodiment. For example, the first shaft 62 of the fixing part 6 may be screwed into the elongated hole 57 of the main body 5A. The mounting part 4 does not need to have a screw hole 49. The fixing part 6 may fix the main body 5A relative to the mounting part 4 by bringing the front end of the second shaft 63 into contact with the rear end of the mounting part 4.

[0113] The distance L3, which corresponds to the maximum length of the main body 5A in the left-right direction, and the distance L2, which corresponds to the length of the pressing plate 3A of the pressing leg 2A in the left-right direction, may be equal. The distance L2 may be greater than the distance L3.

[0114] The distance L5, which corresponds to the length of the presser foot 2A in the front-to-back direction, and the distance L4 in the front-to-back direction of the movable range of the feed dog 18 may be equal. The distance L4 may also be greater than the distance L5.

[0115] The mounting portion 4 may contact the first wall portion 51L or the second wall portion 51R, thereby restricting the range of movement of the mounting portion 4 and the fixing portion 6. In this case, the first wall portion 51L may be the first restricting portion and the second wall portion 51R may be the second restricting portion.

[0116] In sewing machines where the presser foot bar 14B and the needle plate 16 are close together, there may not be enough space to place the guide section 5B below the presser foot bar 14B. As shown in Figure 18, the guide section 5B may be configured to be located behind the presser foot bar 14B.
