Description

Technical Field

[0001] The present invention relates to a pressure element for use in a coupling device for applying a clamping force to a pipe, wherein the pressure element is configured to be used as one of a correspondingly implemented series of pressure elements, and the pressure element as well as each pressure element in the series includes a first pressure element segment and a second pressure element segment, and in use, the first pressure element segment is arranged to be located proximally, and the second pressure element segment is arranged to be located distally with respect to the longitudinal axis of the pipe. Background Art

[0002] EP 2929225 A1 discloses a coupling device that securely holds a pipe by utilizing a plurality of cooperating pressure elements that apply a strong clamping force to ensure a secure connection. Each pressure element is provided with two interlocking segments that are flexibly and adaptively arranged around the pipe, thereby increasing the overall strength of the connection. The pressure elements are provided with projections and slots that connect adjacent pressure elements and limit their mutual axial displacement.

[0003] The drawback of this is that the protruding projections that enter the adjacent parts are usually too weak for the high forces that occur, and as a result they break, which means that clamping to the pipe is no longer guaranteed. This drawback of the vehicle structure Summary of Invention Problems to be Solved by the Invention

[0004] The object of the present invention is to propose a pressure element for use in a coupling device that allows the two pressure element segments of the pressure element to be axially displaced relative to each other and provides a stop on the pressure element segments with a high degree of stability and strength. Means for Solving the Problems

[0005] This objective is achieved in accordance with the present invention by providing at least one stop on the pressure element and the first pressure element segment of each first pressure element, and providing at least one cooperating counterstop on the pressure element and the second pressure element segment of each second pressure element to limit the extreme positions of the first pressure element segment and the second pressure element segment relative to each other, and by the cooperation of the stops and counterstops on the first and second pressure element segments of the same pressure element.

[0006] The present invention relates to a pressure element for use in a coupling device for applying a clamping force to a pipe, wherein the pressure element is preferably configured to be used as one of a series of correspondingly embodied pressure elements that form a closing ring used in a coupling device for applying a clamping force. The pressure element of the present invention and each series of pressure elements include a first pressure element segment and a second pressure element segment, wherein during use, the first pressure element segment is positioned proximal, and the second pressure element segment is positioned distal to the pipe or the longitudinal axis of the pipe. The pressure element and the first pressure element segment of each first pressure element are provided with at least one stop, and the pressure element and the second pressure element segment of each second pressure element are provided with at least one cooperating counterstop to limit the extreme positions of the first and second parts relative to each other. The stops and counterstops of the first and second pressure element segments of the same pressure element cooperate with each other. This means that the stops and counterstops of the first and second pressure element segments of the same pressure element limit the axial displacement of the pressure element at its extreme position. The limiting position is formed by a pipe within the clutch that is to be released axially from the clutch, generating a force on the gripper teeth and thus pulling the first pressure element segment axially in the direction of the pressure ring. A counter stop on the second pressure element segment limits the displacement of the first pressure element segment by a stop that abuts against the counter stop.

[0007] Preferably, the first pressure element segment and the second pressure element segment are arranged to be displaceable relative to each other along the longitudinal axis between a standard position and an extreme position.

[0008] Preferably, the second pressure element segment has a lower cavity into which a tongue extends, which functions as a guide along the longitudinal axis for the mutual displacement of the first and second pressure element segments. The tongue is preferably positioned perpendicular to the longitudinal axis at the center of the cavity. It is advantageous if the tongue extends along the longitudinal axis, preferably at least to the center of the cavity.

[0009] Preferably, the first pressure element segment has an upper recess from which the tongue of the second pressure element segment can move. The tongue of the second pressure element segment and the recess of the first pressure element segment form a corresponding longitudinal guide. Preferably, the recess is positioned perpendicular to the longitudinal axis at the center of the first pressure element segment.

[0010] Preferably, the stop and counterstop are positioned at the front of the tongue and recess, respectively, and are in their extreme positions relative to each other. The counterstop is formed by the end face on the tongue, where the end wall of the recess is in its extreme position, and limits the displacement. In this case, since high forces act on the stop and counterstop, the stop and counterstop need to be stable so as not to break under high forces.

[0011] Preferably, two parallel side elements are positioned on the sides of the cavity below the second pressure element segment. The side elements serve to guide the second pressure element segment, whose upper part protrudes, longitudinally and to laterally divide the cavity.

[0012] Advantageously, the wedge is positioned on top of the first pressure element segment and guided through the two side elements of the second pressure element segment. This causes the wedge to protrude into the cavity below the second pressure element segment.

[0013] Preferably, stops are positioned on two side elements and cooperate with a counter stop positioned on the top of the first pressure element segment. The two stops are positioned on the first pressure element segment, respectively, with respect to the sides of the wedge extension of the side elements, such that the counter stop positioned on the side element corresponds to the stops, or the stops are in an extreme position relative to the counter stop. It is advantageous for the pressure element to have several stops, resulting in a better force distribution.

[0014] Preferably, the upper part of the wedge and the base of the recess are inclined at an angle α with respect to the longitudinal axis, such that the upper part of the wedge and the base of the recess are parallel.

[0015] Preferably, the surfaces of the tongue and recessed stop and counterstop extend at an angle β with respect to the longitudinal axis, where the angle β is 35–130°, preferably 45–90°, more preferably 80–90°, and even more preferably 88–90°. The angle of the stop and counterstop surfaces relative to the gripper tooth surface of the first portion may be selected as desired. When the angle with respect to the gripper tooth surface or the longitudinal axis is 90 degrees or greater than 90 degrees, respectively, i.e., the stop surface is inclined in the opposite direction to the inclined surface of the wedge, the stop surface acts as a pure stop. When the angle is less than 90 degrees relative to the gripper tooth surface, i.e., the stop surface is inclined in the same direction as the inclined surface of the wedge, the stop surface functions as a second inclined surface. The angle of the stop surface relative to the gripper tooth surface is preferably greater than the angle of the inclined surface of the wedge relative to the gripper tooth surface, thereby resulting in a relatively steep incline to restrict the first and second portions to their extreme positions and provide a strong force in the direction of the pipe along the length of the stop surface.

[0016] Preferably, the first and second pressure element segments are integral plastic parts, preferably injection-molded plastic parts. This is the most economical way to manufacture them, as a large number of parts are required.

[0017] All possible embodiments can be freely combined with one another, and the features of the method also apply to the apparatus, and vice versa.

[0018] Exemplary embodiments of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings, but the present invention is not limited to these exemplary embodiments. [Brief explanation of the drawing]

[0019] [Figure 1] A three-dimensional diagram of the pressure element according to the present invention is shown. [Figure 2] An exploded view of the pressure element according to the present invention is shown. [Figure 3] A plan view of the pressure element according to the present invention, having marked cutting paths, is shown. [Figure 4a] Cross-sectional view AA at the standard position is shown. [Figure 4b] Cross-sectional view AA at the extreme position is shown. [Figure 5a] A cross-sectional view BB at the standard position is shown. [Figure 5b] The cross-sectional view BB at the extreme position is shown. [Modes for carrying out the invention]

[0020] Figure 1 shows a three-dimensional view of pressure element 1 when installed in a coupling device for applying clamping force to a pipe. Pressure element 1 is configured to be used as one of a series of correspondingly embodied pressure elements connected side by side to form a clamping ring (not shown). All pressure elements 1 are designed in the same manner. Each pressure element 1 includes a first pressure element segment 2, each positioned close to the pipe or longitudinal axis 14, and a second pressure element segment 3, each positioned further distal to the pipe or longitudinal axis 14. Pressure elements 1 are arranged in a ring shape around the longitudinal axis 14 to form a closed clamping ring (not shown). The two pressure element segments 2, 3 can move relative to each other parallel to the longitudinal axis 14 to an extreme position formed by stops 4, 5. For this purpose, the first pressure element segment 2 has a stop 4 corresponding to a counterstop 5 on the second pressure element segment 3. All pressure elements 1 are designed in the same manner. It is advantageous that the stops are located at the center of pressure element 1. Preferably, the second pressure element segment 3 has a tongue portion 7 located within the cavity 6 below the second pressure element segment 3. The tongue portion 7 extends parallel to the longitudinal axis 14 and is located at the center of the second pressure element segment 3. The surface 13 of the counter stop 5 is located at the inward end of the tongue portion 7. This corresponds to the surface 13 of the stop 4 on the first pressure element segment 2, which can be clearly seen in Figure 2. It is also advantageous that the side element 9 located on the side of the cavity 6 has a counter stop 5 on its end face, corresponding to the stop 4 on the upper side of the first pressure element segment 2. The tongue portion 7 is guided into a recess 8 located in the first pressure element segment 2. The front wall of the recess 8 forms the surface 13 of the stop 4 corresponding to the counter stop 5 on the tongue portion 7. The recess is located on a wedge 10 that extends along the upper side of the first pressure element segment 2. The wedge 10 has an inclined upper part 11, and the base and tongue 7 of the recess 12 also have the same inclination, which means that the two pressure element segments 2 and 3 can move toward each other.Figure 3 shows a pressure element 1 according to the present invention, in which two sections A-A and B-B extend. Figures 4a and 4b show a section extending through the center of the tongue 7 parallel to the longitudinal axis 14. The stop 4 and the counter-stop 5 on the tongue 7 and the recess 8 are clearly recognizable. Figure 4a shows a normal position in which it can be seen that the stop 4 and the counter-stop 5 are not in contact with each other. In the normal position, the surface of the stop 4 and the counter-stop 5 are not in contact or do not abut each other. Figure 4b shows the pressure element 1 in an extreme position, that is, the case where a force pulling the pipe out of the coupling device acts on the pressure element 1. It can be clearly seen that the two surfaces 13 are in contact with each other. This means that it is no longer possible to move the pressure element segments 2, 3 towards each other, and as a result the pipe is locked. The fact that the stop 4 and the counter-stop 5 have a wide contact surface and are relatively flat means that the stop 4 or the counter-stop 5 can withstand high forces without failure. Figures 5a and 5b show a section through the cutting path B-B extending through the center of the side element 9. The stop 4 arranged on the first pressure element segment 2 and the counter-stop 5 formed by the region on the end face of the side element 9 are clearly visible. Figure 5a shows the normal position, and Figure 5b shows the extreme position in which the stop 4 and the counter-stop 5 are in contact with each other. It is advantageous for the pressure element 1 to have several stops 4 and counter-stops 5 so that the forces acting on the segments 2, 3 are distributed, but it is also possible for there to be only one stable stop 4 and counter-stop 5 arranged on the segments 2, 3. It is also shown that the angle β between the surfaces 13 of the stop 4 and counter-stop 5 on the tongue 7 and the recess 8 and the gripper teeth 15 is advantageously larger than the angle α between the gripper teeth 15 and the surface of the inclined upper part 11 of the wedge 10 or the tongue 7, thereby forming a clear and stable boundary.
