Method and system for transmitting fluid power between a pump and an actuator

Abstract

A method and system for transmitting fluid power between a pump and an actuator. The actuator (3, 13) has an inlet (7) and an outlet (8) for hydraulic fluid, and an actuator circuit therebetween and external to the actuator, in which hydraulic fluid is circulated from the outlet (8) to the inlet (7). A pulse pump (1) is used to generate pressure pulses at a desired frequency, and fluid power is transmitted to the actuator (3, 13) with the aid of the pressure pulses by converting the pressure pulses into flow entering the actuator inlet (7). Return flow from the actuator is returned during periods between pressure pulses and used in the pressure pulse following each return flow, so that an amount of hydraulic fluid corresponding to the amount of pressure pulse moves back and forth across the flow cross-section in the power transmission tube or hose (2) between the pulse pump (1) and the actuator (3, 13).
