AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing methods for securing bristle bundles in tufted brushes are costly and require frequent replacement of tufting tools, with anchors penetrating the hole walls and posing contamination risks.

Method used

A method involving folding a bristle bundle into a U-shape with a thickened portion, inserting it into a hole, and plastically deforming the peripheral portion to create an undercut, ensuring the thickened portion bridges opposing hole walls, preventing the bundle from being pulled out.

Benefits of technology

This method reduces tufting force requirements, minimizes tool wear, and enhances recyclability by using plastic thickened portions, thus lowering costs and reducing contamination risks.

Abstract

The method for tufting a brush having a bristle carrier (10) provides for the reception of a thickened portion (44) within a bristle bundle (50) folded into a U-shape. The thickened end of the bristle bundle (50) forces the bristle bundle (50) into the hole (48). The peripheral edge (60) is then deformed to form an undercut, reducing the cross-section of the hole (48) by at least 70% of the cross-section of the thickened portion (44). Due to the thickened portion (44), the bristle bundle (50) can no longer be pulled out of the hole (48). Furthermore, a brush tufting device for carrying out the method is described.
