Improved cellulose for bioethanol production

Abstract

1. A method for obtaining glucose from pretreated lignocellulosic biomass, the method comprising the steps of: providing lignocellulosic biomass; contacting the lignocellulosic biomass with a modified Caro's acid composition for a period of time necessary to remove greater than 98.5% of the lignin present in the lignocellulosic biomass, thereby obtaining a solid stream and a liquid stream; exposing the solid stream to an enzyme blend to produce a hydrolysate comprising sugars obtained from the hydrolysis of cellulose and hemicellulose; and optionally fermenting the hydrolysate to produce value-added products.
