Abstract

The present invention provides inhibitors of bile acid conjugation and / or reconjugation for use in methods to alleviate symptoms and reduce organ damage in subjects suffering from conditions characterized by bile acid accumulation, such as cholestatic liver disease (CLD) or non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). Exemplary inhibitors suppress or inhibit the expression or activity of the bile acid-CoA:amino acid N-acyltransferase (BAAT) gene or its gene product, or the solute transporter family 27 member 5 (SLC27A5) gene or its gene product.
