AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing mobility enhancers for metal containers, such as aluminum cans, face challenges in reducing friction coefficients, generating excessive foam, and failing to meet safety and regulatory standards, particularly in high-speed manufacturing processes.

Method used

An aqueous mobility-enhancing composition comprising polyethylene glycol (PEG) within a specific molecular weight range and a surfactant component, optionally with a biocide, is applied to the metal surface, forming a layer that reduces friction and adheres to the surface, compatible with chemical coatings and lacquers, and minimizes foam generation.

Benefits of technology

The composition achieves a reduced coefficient of friction, improved mobility, and compliance with safety and regulatory standards, enhancing process efficiency and safety in high-speed manufacturing processes.

Abstract

The present invention provides an aqueous mobility-enhancing composition for improving the mobility of metal containers throughout a manufacturing process encompassing manufacturing equipment and conveyors, a method for producing the composition, a method for reducing the coefficient of friction on the surface of a metal container by bringing the container into contact with the disclosed composition, and a container having a metal surface on which the composition of the present invention has been dried in situ. These compositions are useful for imparting desirable slip angle characteristics to the surface of a metal container that has undergone only a washing process, or a metal container that has undergone both washing and chemical coating.
