AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing techniques for protecting sensor data are inefficient and/or ineffective, often requiring specialized hardware or compromising the operating system, necessitating improved methods to secure sensor data transmission.

Method used

A secure process runs outside the operating system to filter sensor information, providing selective resolution and metadata to system processes based on predefined criteria, ensuring secure data transmission.

Benefits of technology

Enhances the security and efficiency of sensor data protection by filtering data based on application requests and device states, reducing risks associated with direct system process access.

Abstract

This specification describes several techniques for providing a secure process for selectively providing sensor information of different resolutions to the system processes of an operating system in response to different requests received by the system processes from an application. For example, a device sensor may provide sensor data to a secure application of the device that performs one or more operations using the sensor data to generate metadata corresponding to the sensor data. In such an example, the secure application may also receive the sensor data and provide metadata to a filter layer of the device that determines the resolution of the sensor data to send to the device application via the system processes of the device's operating system. Other techniques described herein include a filtering step in the system process.
