AI Technical Summary
Technical Problem
Existing systems struggle to efficiently recover from ransomware attacks that encrypt important enterprise data, leading to potential business disruption and data loss.
Method used
A system utilizing version control and entropy-based recovery, where data is stored as versions in a datastore with access controls, and entropy delta analysis is used to identify and recover the most recent unencrypted data after an attack, ensuring efficient decryption and protection of unencrypted data.
Benefits of technology
Enables rapid and reliable recovery from ransomware attacks by identifying and protecting unencrypted data, minimizing operational disruption and data loss.

Abstract
Ransomware mitigation using version control and entropy delta-based recovery The mitigation system protects data in a datastore that has not yet been encrypted by a successful ransomware attack from encryption. Data is stored in the datastore as a set of identified versions within a data tree, and versions can only be updated by writing new versions to the tree. Access control also functions to prevent modifications to the tree. After an attack, a recovery function is executed to attempt recovery. This function calculates an entropy delta by comparing the entropy of the encrypted versions with the entropy of the versions of the data that have not yet been encrypted. Based on the calculated entropy delta, the recovery function identifies the most recent clear version of the data, and then initiates the recovery operation against this version.
