Abstract

The subject of this invention is a reed holder / reed shaping device for double-reed flutes, which is made of a rigid, shape-retaining material such as metal. Its internal shape design enables and achieves the formation of a good, reproducible sound. The external design helps ensure good bonding of the machined reed plates, thereby enabling good vibration of the reed plates and improving their durability. The device then adjusts the vibration (the sound produced by the reed plates) in an accurate, reproducible, and appropriate manner and transmits it to the instrument. Therefore, the device is made of metal or a shape-retaining material so that the reeds are properly mounted and the internal shape is always kept constant. This invention can be used with all double-reed flutes (e.g., bassoon, oboe, English horn, etc.), whether integrated with the associated tube or separate.

Description

Technical Field

[0001] The present invention relates to a reed holding / shaping device in the field of double reed wind instruments.

Background Art

[0002] Double reed wind instruments, such as the bassoon, are currently made in the following way: two reed plates that have been cut and shaped are placed facing each other and then tied together with wire to form a circle. Then, it is attached to the corresponding "S" - shaped tube portion of the instrument. The characteristic that influences the sound formation of this double reed wind instrument is the cavity inside it. This cavity is uneven and depends on the cutting method and the tightening force of the wire. Therefore, the internal shape of the double reed wind instrument is not precise at the most important part for sound formation and cannot be reproduced. This is the main drawback of such instruments. As a result, there is a need for a tool that enables precise design and reproducibility of the internal cavity system of double reed wind instruments.

Summary of the Invention

[0003] The present invention will be described below based on an example of an embodiment as a separately configured part in the case of the bassoon, with reference to the accompanying drawings.

Brief Description of the Drawings

[0004] [Figure 1] FIG. 1 is a side cross - sectional view of a double reed wind instrument.

Modes for Carrying Out the Invention

[0005] The reed holding / shaping device according to the present invention is made of a shape - retaining material and can be used to cover the inside of a double reed wind instrument.

[0006] The reed holding / reed forming apparatus according to the present invention is based on the understanding that the unique variations caused by the internal structure of reeds can be eliminated by backing the reed plate from the inside with a rigid material that maintains its shape. In this way, reed flutes can be formed from reeds, and they have identical and reproducible sound-forming characteristics based on their internal structure.

[0007] Figure 1 shows a cross-section of a double reed flute. The reed holder / reed shaping device 1 is designed for use with the double reed flute instrument and is made of a rigid, shape-retaining material such as metal. Its internal shape design allows for the formation of consistently reproducible, good tones. The external design helps ensure good bonding between the opposing, machined reed plates 2, thereby ensuring good vibration of the reed plates 2 and also improving their durability. The vibrations (sound) produced by the reed plates 2 are then precisely and appropriately tuned and transmitted to the instrument. Therefore, when the reed plates 2 are fixed facing each other with reed coupling wires 3 using the reed holder / reed shaping device 1 attached to their inner surfaces, the shape of the internal cavity system of the double reed flute becomes clearly defined and independent of the reed pretreatment.

[0008] The reed holding / reed shaping device 1 is made of metal or other shape-retaining material, and the reed plate 2 is securely fixed to the device so that its internal shape is always kept constant. The double reed flute thus formed is connected to the rest of the instrument by an "S"-shaped instrument tube 4. Of course, since some instruments require different shapes, we do not rule out the possibility that the instrument tube 4 is not "S"-shaped. Such an instrument tube 4 connects the double reed flute to the rest of the instrument. In one preferred embodiment, the reed holding / reed shaping device 1 is formed as part of the instrument tube 4, and as a result, it is not necessary to connect the reed holding / reed shaping device 1 to the instrument tube 4.

[0009] The reed plates 2 are prepared in the usual way, cut to size, sanded, polished, and fixed together facing each other in a curved shape using wire 3. Next, the reed holding / reed shaping device 1 is formed and shaped either as part of the instrument tube 4 or as a standalone unit. After that, the reed holding / reed shaping device 1 is fixed inside the reed plates 2, or, if formed as a separate device, attached to the instrument tube 4. [Industrial applicability]

[0010] The present invention can be used for all double-reed flutes, such as the bassoon, oboe, and English horn.

[0011] The advantage of a reed holding / reed shaping device is that it ensures the formation of precise and reproducible sounds. [Explanation of Symbols]
