Description

Technical Field

[0001] The present disclosure relates to a compression device for alleviating physical discomfort.

Background Art

[0002] Compression helps relieve discomfort associated with various physical conditions by providing pain relief, support, and stabilization, which can improve blood circulation, reduce swelling, lower the risk of blood clots, promote healing, prevent injuries, or enhance the recovery process. In addition, compression can also alleviate discomfort associated with the menstrual cycle, or discomfort related to physical conditions such as dysmenorrhea, endometriosis, sciatica, arthritis, tendonitis, and low back pain.

Summary of Invention

Problems to be Solved by the Invention

[0003] Existing compression devices require multiple layers to be wrapped around the body in complex patterns. Other compression garments can be unsightly. That is, it may be obvious at a glance that the device is being worn, which may suggest that the wearer is suffering from a potentially private physical condition. Many compression devices require assistance from another person for proper placement. This process can be inconvenient, uncomfortable, and time-consuming. Furthermore, it can be difficult to customize and control the level of compression according to the individual's needs and preferences.

[0004] Accordingly, there is a need in the industry to provide a product that not only reduces the burden on the wearer, but also enhances the experience in terms of convenience and self-adjustment by the wearer themselves, and further achieves an unobtrusive appearance under ordinary clothing, simplicity, convenience, comfort, and all-day customizability.

Means for Solving the Problems

[0005] This disclosure relates to a compression device for reducing physical discomfort. The compression device comprises a fabric member having a waist opening at a first end and two leg openings at a second end on the opposite side. The device also comprises a tension adjuster fixed to a part of the fabric member and a plurality of guides integrated with the fabric member. The plurality of guides extend along the fabric member in the latitude direction (circumferential direction) between the waist opening and the two leg openings, and a plurality of tension members are arranged within the plurality of guides, each tension member having a distal end fixed to the fabric member and a proximal end fixed to the tension adjuster.

[0006] The tension adjuster is configured to apply compression to the hip and back region of the user wearing the compression device by selectively shortening the lengths of a plurality of tension members. In addition, the plurality of guides may comprise a first set of guides and a second set of guides, wherein the first set of guides is arranged to extend in a first direction over at least a portion of the perimeter of the fabric member, and the second set of guides is arranged to extend in a second direction over at least a portion of the perimeter of the fabric member. Similarly, the plurality of tension members may comprise a first set of tension members and a second set of tension members, wherein the first set of tension members is arranged to extend in a first direction through the first set of guides, and the second set of tension members is arranged to extend in a second direction through the second set of guides. The plurality of tension members may comprise inelastic cables or elastic bands.

[0007] The tension adjuster may comprise a first tension adjuster and a second tension adjuster, the first tension adjuster being fixed to the proximal end of each of the first set of tension members, and the second tension adjuster being fixed to the proximal end of each of the second set of tension members. The multiple tension members may comprise inelastic cables or elastic bands.

[0008] The fabric member may be sized and shaped to apply pressure to the user's hip joint and back area in the first stage of initial compression, and the tension adjuster may be configured to apply pressure to the user's hip joint and back area in the second stage of compression.

[0009] The tension adjuster may include a rotary pressure adjustment knob configured to selectively wrap around the plurality of tension members and maintain and apply the amount of pressure selected in the second stage of compression. The tension adjuster may also include a ratchet mechanism for maintaining the tension of the plurality of tension members and a release mechanism for releasing the ratchet mechanism when activated. The tension adjuster may be positioned on the back, side, or front of the fabric member.

[0010] In another embodiment, the compression device comprises a compression band having a waist opening and configured to be worn by a user around the hip area. A tension adjuster is fixed to a portion of the compression band, a guide is fixed to the compression band and extends at least partially circumferentially along the compression band, and a tension member is positioned within the guide and has a distal end fixed to the compression band and a proximal end fixed to the tension adjuster. The tension adjuster is configured to apply compression to the user wearing the compression device by selectively shortening the length of the tension member. The distal end of the tension member may also be formed into an adjustable loop connected to itself.

[0011] In another embodiment, a method for applying compression to a user's hip area using the compression device described above is disclosed. This method includes applying compression to a user wearing the compression band by activating the tension adjuster to selectively shorten the length of the tension member.

[0012] Furthermore, this method includes reducing the amount of compression applied to the user wearing the compression band by activating the tension adjuster to selectively stretch the tension member. [Brief explanation of the drawing]

[0015] Hereinafter, the present invention will be described in more detail with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which preferred embodiments of the present invention are shown. However, the present invention may be embodied in many different forms and should not be construed as limited to the embodiments set forth herein. Rather, these embodiments are provided so that this disclosure will be thorough and complete, and will fully convey the scope of the present invention to those skilled in the art. Throughout the text, like numerals refer to like elements.

[0016] The present invention relates to a compression device that can be worn by a user to alleviate discomfort associated with a given condition, namely pain, tightness, stiffness, etc., by applying adjustable compression around the user's hip joint and / or hip region, lumbar region and / or lower abdominal region. For example, the present invention alleviates discomfort associated with the menstrual cycle, or discomfort associated with physical conditions such as dysmenorrhea, endometriosis, sciatica, arthritis, tendinitis, and lower back pain.

[0017] As intended herein, a predetermined condition may include a physical or medical condition. The compression devices of the present invention are intended to be worn discreetly as an outer garment or under clothing, and should have sufficient flexibility to allow movement, adjustment, and a suitable range of fit between users. It is within the scope of the invention that wearing the compression device should not substantially affect mobility or flexibility.

[0018] Compression devices generally include compression garments and integrated compression bands. However, in some embodiments, the compression bands may be detachable from the compression garments. In another embodiment, the compression device is integrated within the garment without the compression bands. The compression garments may be positioned around the user's hip area, i.e., from the user's lower abdomen and / or waist to the top of the legs. The compression bands may be positioned on or inside the compression garments so that they can function as an integrated component.

[0019] The compression device may provide two levels of compression. The first level achieves an initial "snug fit" by at least partially tightening the compression band and / or the compression garment. Alternatively, the first level of compression may be achieved by the inherent compression of the compression garment and / or the compression band itself, i.e., without manual tightening. In the second level, the user can selectively tighten the compression band to a different and / or more customized compression force or level. The second level of compression may be higher, but not necessarily lower, than the first level of compression. Thus, the second level of compression may provide the user with a controllable level of pressure therapy.

[0020] To achieve a first level of compression, a first compression mechanism may be positioned on the compression garment and / or the compression band. The first compression mechanism or first tension adjuster may incorporate various means such as snaps, Velcro®, hooks, buttons, elastic mechanisms (e.g., spandex), or related mechanisms to achieve and maintain the first level of compression. The first compression mechanism may also include a release mechanism for the user to reduce the compression level of the compression band and / or the compression garment. Alternatively, as briefly stated above, the compression band and / or the compression garment may have an inherent level of compression force that automatically achieves a snug fit that provides a first level of compression.

[0021] Furthermore, a second compression mechanism may also be positioned on the compression band. The second compression mechanism generally comprises a tension adjuster, such as a rotary compression adjustment knob (i.e., a dial or similar mechanism), which is configured to work in conjunction with a tension structure or tension member, such as a cable, wire, or non-stretchable (non-elastic) tension component (e.g., a strap of material configured to work in conjunction with a tube winder, etc.), which is retractable to generate a compressive force. The compression adjustment knob of the tension adjuster may be positioned along the side of the compression band, but may also be positioned at other locations, such as the front or back, including being offset from the guide.

[0022] The second compression mechanism generally comprises a tension member, which includes a wire or generally non-stretchable material, the tension member being positioned inside a guide and positioned around the compression band and / or the compression garment according to a pattern of the guide. In certain embodiments, the guide may generally form two or more parallel lines positioned around the compression band and / or the compression garment. The wire or non-stretchable material should slide within the guide and preferably have sufficient flexibility to conform to the shape and / or position of the guide. The wire itself is generally connected to a compression adjustment knob or other tension adjustment device, which for brevity is referred to herein as a compression adjustment knob.

[0023] Thus, by turning or rotating the compression adjustment knob of the tension adjuster, for example, the wire is wound in the rotating drum, and the length of the wire in the guide is shortened. As a result, the compression band and / or the compression garment is tightened. As the knob dial tightens the wire loop and / or the compression band / garment, the compression force increases around the user's treatment area. Turning the compression adjustment knob in the opposite direction may decrease the compression level. In addition, the tension adjuster may be provided with a sliding adjustment base. Therefore, the position of the tension adjuster may be adjusted on the compression band and / or the compression garment relative to the tension member to fine-tune the compression. The compression adjustment knob may be provided with a release mechanism, i.e., a button, switch, pop-up function, or related mechanism or multiple mechanisms, for selectively and / or quickly decreasing the compression level.

[0024] Furthermore, the compression device of the present invention may include a compression adjustment knob having multiple adjustment settings to enable different compression increments. Thus, the compression adjustment knob may be configured to provide multiple compression stages. For example, one mode of the compression adjustment knob may allow for a wide range of compression adjustments, while the other mode may allow for finer adjustments to "fine-tune" the compression level.

[0025] In addition, the compression device may be operated by air pressure. For example, the tension member may include one or more chambers positioned around the compression band and / or the compression garment, and compression can be provided by selectively filling and pressurizing the chambers with air, fluid, or other gas.

[0026] The advantages of such compression devices are further realized by providing even more effective compression around the desired treatment area. Further advantages are realized by providing a compression device that can meet the above needs through an integrated system comprising a compression band and compression clothing that are easy to put on and take off. Further advantages are also provided by a compression device having a configuration in which, in one embodiment, the compression band is detachable from the clothing, and in another embodiment, the compression band is integrated into the clothing. Furthermore, further advantages are provided by a compression device that allows the user to easily and accurately adjust the compression level in multiple stages according to the desired tightness and treatment pressure.

[0027] Referring to Figures 1A, 1B, and 1C, the compression device is typically indicated by 10. It is within the scope of the invention that the compression device 10 is user-adjustable and inconspicuous. The compression device 10 may also generally provide at least two levels of compression, as described above. However, it is within the scope of the invention that a particular embodiment of the compression device 10 provides only one level of compression, as defined herein.

[0028] For example, the compression device 10 of the present invention may be used to alleviate discomfort associated with a given physical or medical condition, such as hip pain, sciatica, menstrual cramps or menstrual pain, back pain, or leg pain.

[0029] The compression device 10 generally comprises a compression band 30, which is positioned on or otherwise integrated with the compression garment 20. In an alternative embodiment, the compression band 30 may be detachably positioned on or inside the compression garment 20. In another embodiment, the compression device and associated components are integrated within the garment without the compression band 30. However, the compression band 30 and the compression garment 20 may jointly constitute an integrated component that can be worn by the user as a separate garment component or unit. That is, the compression band 30 may be positioned, connected, or attached to the compression garment 20 by means of sewing, bonding, clipping, adhesive, adhesive banding, mechanical attachment, etc.

[0030] The compression device 10 according to the present invention may be positioned around the user's hip area, i.e., located below the waist area and extending up to the upper leg area. Thus, the compression garment 20 and / or compression band 30 may substantially generate and / or distribute inward pressure around the user's hip area, including around the front or lower abdominal area, around the sides or hip area, and / or around the lumbar area. The compression garment 20 and / or compression band 30 may generally aim to achieve a substantially uniform pressure distribution around the user's desired area. However, as described below, certain embodiments of the compression device 10 of the present invention may be configured to provide enhanced or targeted compression to a specific site or area.

[0031] For example, such compression force is indicated by an arrow pointing towards the user's body. As described above, the compression device 10 of the present invention is intended for first and second stages of compression. The first stage of compression may be provided by the compression garment 20, while the second stage of compression may be provided by the compression band 30. Alternatively, as will be described in more detail below, the compression band 30 itself may provide two different stages or levels of compression.

[0032] The compression device 10 may cover and / or provide compression to at least a portion of the user's desired treatment area, which may be associated with discomfort due to a given condition. Again, such desired area may be around the hip, lower abdomen, and / or lumbar region. The upper section 22 of the compression garment 20 may be positioned around or directly below the individual's waist area. The middle section 24 of the compression garment 20 may be positioned around or below the hip area, and the lower section 26 of the compression garment 20 may be positioned around or below the user's groin and / or buttock area. It is assumed that at least the compression garment 20 and / or compression band 30 are sufficiently flexible to allow the user to position them around the desired treatment area and / or to make adjustments to achieve a desired or comfortable fit.

[0033] Furthermore, the compression garment 20 and / or compression band 30 may be constructed and sized to allow the user to perform any movement that would otherwise be possible, such as walking, jogging, running, sitting, kneeling, stretching, extending, and knee flexion. Moreover, the compression garment 20 and compression band 30 are intended to function as an integrated component. That is, movement or adjustment of the compression garment 20 in terms of position can generally result in reciprocal and corresponding movement of the compression band 30. Furthermore, the compression garment 20 and / or compression band 30 may be constructed and sized to accommodate the user's approximate size.

[0034] Following the initial positioning of the compression device 10 on the user's body, the first stage of compression generally aims to achieve a preliminary tightening or “snug fit” of the compression garment 20 on the user's body. In this specification, “snug fit” may be defined as a state in which the compression device 10, with the compression garment 20 and / or compression band 30, fits to the user's lumbar region and is comfortable or close to snug, but not completely tight or too tight.

[0035] Such a first stage of compression may be made possible by mechanically shortening the circumference or length of the compression garment 20 or compression band 30, as shown in Figure 2. For example, a snap, Velcro, hook, or another equivalent adjustment mechanism 40 may be used by the wearer to make an initial or first stage adjustment of the length of the compression band 30. Here, it is assumed that the adjustment mechanism 40 includes a release mechanism that can be activated to reduce the compression level of the compression band 30 at least partially or completely. Alternatively, the compression device 10 may include a compression garment 20 and / or compression band 30 that can automatically exert an inherent compression force without substantially manual adjustment to achieve a first stage of compression or "snug fit".

[0036] The compression band 30 may include a second compression device or tension adjuster 50 positioned on it. The second compression device or tension adjuster 50 may be positioned on the compression band 30 or adjacent to a guide 52 (i.e., a guide on the side away from the user's body) that is integrated with the compression band 30. The guide 52 may be positioned on or integrated with the compression band 30 by various mechanisms, including sewing, bonding, snap fastening mechanisms, clips, belts, screws, connectors, heat fusion, etc. Furthermore, the guide 52 should be positioned in a non-moving relationship with respect to the compression band 30 and / or the compression garment 20.

[0037] However, during the first and / or second stage of compression, the compression band 30 is expected to contract at least partially. Therefore, the guide 52 should be configured to conform to the shape of the compression band 30 during any stage of compression and / or when there is no compression. For example, the guide 52 should conform to the shape of the compression band before compression is applied, i.e., after the initial positioning of the compression garment and / or when the compression mechanism or tension adjustment mechanism 40 and / or 50 is released and the compression band 30 returns to its initial shape.

[0038] As those skilled in the art will understand, the guide 52 may be positioned on the compression band 30 in an arrangement comprising a first line 55 and / or a second line 56. Alternatively, it is conceivable that only the first line 55 may be positioned on the compression band 30. If both the first line 55 and the second line 56 are provided, they are generally positioned spaced apart from each other, the spacing distance (separation distance) being indicated by 53. The spaced relationship between lines 55 and 56 at least partially improves the stability of the compression device 10 when activating the first and / or second stage compression as defined herein.

[0039] The spacing 53 between lines 55 and / or 56 may be constant along the circumference of the compression band 30. However, as shown in Figures 4A, 4B, and 4C, the spacing 53' may be non-uniform or non-parallel, and may be wider around the hip area, for example, to allow for greater comfort and / or more uniform compression. In addition, other potential patterns of the guide 52 exist, which may include a substantially meandering double-track arrangement. Also, while it is assumed that the guide 52 comprises lines 55 and / or lines 56, this is not limiting, and additional lines, including four or more, may be arranged along the length of the compression band 30 or around a particular desired area, following a predetermined path. This may have the advantage of more effectively targeting a desired compression area or part around the user, thereby ensuring a better overall distribution of tensile pressure rather than dispersing it over a wide area.

[0040] The guide 52 may substantially form a closed loop around the compression band 30. That is, the guide 52 may start adjacent to a compression adjustment knob 60 of, for example, a second compression or tension adjuster 50, as defined in more detail below, around the side 32 of the compression band 30 or compression garment 20. The compression adjustment knob 60 may be positioned on the compression band 30 in a non-moving relationship with respect to the compression band 30. In another embodiment, the tension adjuster 50 may have a sliding base to allow fine adjustment of the tension member. The compression adjustment knob 60 may be positioned on the side 32, front 34, or around the side 32 of the compression band 30. Thus, the guide 52 may substantially form a first line 55 around the compression band 30. The guide 52 may also form a connecting portion 58 adjacent to the knob 60, and then similarly form a second line 56 around the compression band 30. Therefore, both lines 55 and 56 of the second compression or tension adjuster 50 may provide coverage substantially over the entire circumference of the individual's body.

[0041] The second compression or tension adjuster 50 may further comprise a tension member or tension member 54. Generally, the tension member 54 is operably connected to the compression adjustment knob 60 of the tension adjuster 50 and is operably positioned inside the guide 52. The tension member 54 may substantially comprise an inelastic tension member or a non-stretchable tension component including (but not limited to) a cable or wire positioned inside the guide 52.

[0042] Furthermore, the tension member 54 may comprise a non-stretchable strap material configured to work in conjunction with a rotating mechanism, such as a tube winder with a folding handle. Additionally, the tension member 54 may comprise a variety of materials, including (but not limited to) plastics, silicones, metals, alloys, polymers, fabrics, and / or combinations thereof. The tension member 54 and / or the guide 52 should be configured to allow the tension member 54 to slide reciprocally within the guide 52.

[0043] Furthermore, the tension member 54 is configured to be at least partially conformable to the shape of the guide 52, i.e., the arrangement of the lines 55 / 56 and / or the connecting portion 58. In addition, the tension member 54 has a diameter at least smaller than the diameter of the guide. Thus, it is assumed that the tension member 54 is operably connected, for example, at its upper part to the compression adjustment knob 60 and enters the guide 52, i.e., the first line 55.

[0044] Furthermore, the tension member 54 should travel within the guide 52 around the back surface 36 of the compression band 30, pass through the connecting portion 58, and then travel back inside the guide 52 (i.e., along the second line 56) toward the compression adjustment knob 60. In this way, the tension member 54 can provide compression around a large portion of the individual's hip joint area, substantially around the compression band 30. The compression adjustment knob 60 may include an internal mechanism, namely a dial or rotating drum for winding up the tension member 54.

[0045] In the operation of the tension adjuster 50, rotation of the compression adjuster knob 60 shortens the effective length of the tension member 54 in accordance with the rotation, thereby enabling the activation of the first and / or second stage of compression. The compression adjuster knob 60 may be equipped with a rotating mechanism that can function as a coil for the tension member 54. Thus, rotation of the compression adjuster knob 60 in one direction can shorten the effective length of the tension member 54. As used herein, the “effective length” of the tension member 54 generally refers to the total length of the tension member 54 inside the guide 52.

[0046] Rotation of the compression adjustment knob 60 in a first direction (for example, the clockwise direction indicated by 62) may cause the tension member 54 to be wound up within the compression adjustment knob 60 accordingly. As a result of such rotation of the compression adjustment knob 60, the effective length of the tension member 54 within the guide 52 is shortened accordingly. Furthermore, the shortening of the length of the tension member 54 within the guide 52 generally shortens the overall length of the compression band 30 and / or compression garment 20 accordingly, which may create inward pressure on the user.

[0047] Therefore, rotating the compression adjustment knob 60 in the opposite direction increases the effective length of the tension member 54, thereby potentially reducing the overall compression level of the compression band 30, at least partially. Furthermore, the compression adjustment knob 60 may be equipped with a release mechanism that can be selectively activated to reduce the compression level of the compression band 30, namely a push-down button, a rotatable switch, a detachable magnet, and / or a secondary rotation or click of the compression adjustment knob 60.

[0048] As described above, the compression device 10 of the present invention may comprise a single compression device or tension adjuster 50 capable of providing both first and second levels of compression. Therefore, it is not necessarily required to provide a first-level compression or tension adjuster mechanism 40, or a compression garment 20 having its own compression force, but it is possible to provide them. For example, the compression garment 20 alone may be configured to provide the first level of compression, while the compression band 30 may be configured to provide the second level of compression via the tension adjuster 50 and the compression adjustment knob 60. In addition, the compression device and related components may be integrated within the compression garment without the compression band 30. Nevertheless, a single compression device 50 is also envisioned that can provide first and second levels of compression and comprises a compression adjustment knob 60 having two or more different settings.

[0049] For example, multiple different settings may be achieved by changing the diameter of the rotating drum of the compression adjustment knob 60. Alternatively, multiple different settings may be achieved by providing a compression adjustment knob having predetermined rotation adjustment steps, such as a dial, ratchet mechanism, or click mechanism, which rotates by a specific amount at a time according to the user's preference.

[0050] Therefore, the first setting may be activated by pulling the compression adjustment knob 60 away from its initial position, i.e., by pulling it out of the compression band 30 by a first click or snap. The first setting may also be associated with a desired diameter of the rotating drum and / or a predetermined rotation adjustment stage, thereby allowing the compression adjustment knob 60 to shorten the effective length of the tension member 54 by an increment associated with the first compression stage.

[0051] Similarly, a second setting may be made by pulling the compression adjustment knob 60 away from its initial position. For example, this may be achieved by pulling out the compression band 30 or the compression adjustment knob 60 via a second click or snap. The second setting may be associated with a desired diameter of the rotating drum and / or a predetermined rotation adjustment level, thereby allowing the compression adjustment knob 60 to shorten the effective length of the tension member 54 in increments associated with the first compression stage.

[0052] Thus, the user can selectively switch the setting of the compression adjustment knob 60 by pulling it out or pushing it in, or alternatively by using another mechanical mechanism such as a button, switch, click, ratchet, or magnet. Furthermore, a release mechanism may be provided by pushing the compression adjustment knob 60 to the neutral position within the compression band 30.

[0053] The compression adjustment knob 60 may be located in an alternative position on the compression band 30 and / or the compression garment 20. As shown in Figure 3, the compression adjustment knob 60 may be located on the back of the compression garment 20, for example, around its upper section 22. In contrast to Figure 3, as shown in Figure 8A, the compression adjustment knob 60 may be located on the front of the compression garment 20, around the upper section 22. The compression adjustment knob 60 may be located in an offset relationship with respect to lines 55 and / or 56. For example, the compression adjustment knob 60 may be located at an offset distance 59' above the approximate center of the distance between lines 55 and 56. As a further example, the compression adjustment knob 60 may be located at an offset distance 59' above the first line 55.

[0054] Referring to Figures 5A, 5B, and 5C, the compression device 10 may be provided with additional lines of tension members 54. For example, the compression device 10 may comprise a first pair of lines 55 and a second pair of lines 56 that run around the compression band 30. Here, it is assumed that all pairs of lines are formed by the same tension member 54, and that pairs of lines 55 and / or 56 are formed by circling the outer circumference of the compression band 30 a desired number of times by forming connecting parts (one or more) at desired locations. Thus, to enhance comfort, stability, and / or effectiveness, the compression band 30 may comprise four lines 55 and / or 56 that are spaced apart. Therefore, the same tension member passes through three different connecting parts 58 around the compression band 30.

[0055] Referring to Figures 6A, 6B, and 6C, the compression device 10 may be provided with various patterns of lines of tension members 54. For example, to provide additional coverage to a desired treatment area or to enhance comfort, the tension members 54 may form a pair of adjacent lines 55 and 56 arranged in a meandering or intersecting configuration. Alternatively, such alternative patterns may be provided to target a specific section of a desired treatment area. Thus, the tension members 54 do not necessarily have to be around the entire circumference of the compression band 30, but may form one or two lines configured to provide tensile force only on the sides, i.e., around the hip joint.

[0056] Furthermore, as shown in Figures 7A, 7B, and 7C, the compression device 10 may also include a tension member 54 having a pair of adjacent lines 55 and 56 that collectively form a combination of meandering patterns around the side surface of the hip joint region.

[0057] In addition, as shown in Figures 8A, 8B, and 8C, a relationship with spacing between lines 55 and 56 may be formed around the anterior region of the abdomen or lower abdomen. The relationship with spacing between lines 55 and 56 may be formed continuously around the posterior region or lumbar region.

[0058] Referring to Figures 9A and 9B, the compression device 10 comprises a fabric member 20 having a waist opening at a first end and two leg openings at a second end on the opposite side. The device also comprises a first tension adjuster 60a and a second tension adjuster 60b fixed to a portion of the fabric member. Multiple guides 52a, 52b are integrated with the fabric member. The multiple guides 52a, 52b extend circumferentially along the fabric member between the waist opening and the two leg openings, and multiple tension members 54 are arranged within the multiple guides, each tension member having a distal end fixed to the fabric member and a proximal end fixed to the respective tension adjuster 60a, 60b. The distal end of the tension member 54 may also be formed into an adjustable loop that folds back and connects to itself.

[0059] The tension adjusters 60a and 60b are configured to apply compression to the hip and back region of the user wearing the compression device 10 by selectively shortening the length of their respective tension members 54. Furthermore, the first set of guides 52a are positioned to extend in a first direction along at least a portion of the perimeter of the fabric member, and the second set of guides 52b are positioned to extend in the opposite second direction along at least a portion of the perimeter of the fabric member. Similarly, the first set of tension members 54a are positioned to extend in a first direction through the first set of guides 52a, and the second set of tension members 54b are positioned to extend in the opposite second direction through the second set of guides 52b.

[0060] The first tension adjuster 60a is fixed to the proximal end of each tension member 54a of the first set, and the second tension adjuster 60b is fixed to the proximal end of each tension member 54b of the second set.

[0061] Referring to Figures 10A and 10B, in another embodiment, the compression device 100 may be pneumatically operated. The compression device 100 includes a compression band 102 which can be secured to the garment 104 by a front loop 103 and a back loop 105. The front loop and back loops 103, 105 are configured to hold the compression band 102 in the proper position on the garment 104 when worn by the user, but these may not be essential. Also, as will be understood by those skilled in the art, the compression band 102 may be used without the garment 104.

[0062] The compression band 102 may include an integrated chamber configured to be filled with pressurized air to provide compression. The compression band 102 may also include a T-tube 106 connected to a pressurized air source that is in fluid communication with pipes 108a, 108b, as shown in Figures 11A and 11B. The pipes 108a, 108b may be connected to their respective air chambers 110a, 110b. The air chambers 110a, 110b are held in place by a fabric 112. The fabric 112 may be elastic and configured to apply compression to the user's hip, waist, and / or lower abdominal region. The air chambers 110a, 110b are positioned around the compression band 102 and may be selectively filled with air, fluid, or other gas to provide compression and pressurized via pipes 108a, 108b.

[0063] Many modifications and other embodiments of the invention will be conceivable to those skilled in the art who benefit from the teachings presented in the foregoing description and the accompanying drawings. Therefore, it will be understood that the invention is not limited to the specific embodiments disclosed, and that modifications and embodiments are intended to be included within the scope of the appended claims.
