Abstract
Description
TECHNICAL FIELD
[0001] The present invention relates to greening of buildings, in particular greening with plants, and more particularly to removably fixed climbing plants. BACKGROUND ART
[0002] Against the backdrop of today's environmental issues, greening of urban spaces is becoming a real challenge in climate change countermeasures. In particular, greening of building facades is increasingly recommended for climatic reasons, biodiversity conservation, or the purpose of preventing damage such as graffiti. Currently, when plants cannot fix themselves by means of claws, tendrils, suckers or aerial roots, attaching a mesh or trellis system to the facade to be greened remains the mainstream method. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION PROBLEMS TO BE SOLVED BY THE INVENTION
[0003] This technique has several drawbacks. That is, the plants are permanently fixed to the facade and sometimes reach heights of several tens of meters from the ground, making their maintenance complicated, expensive and dangerous. In order to maintain the climbing plants growing at height along the facade, heavy equipment such as scaffolds and aerial work platforms is required, which poses a risk of injury to workers working in between.
[0004] Accordingly, there is a need to improve the maintenance of plants fixed to building facades.
[0005] Therefore, an object of the present invention is to enable maintenance of such plants, preferably climbing plants, by installing a device on the facade of a building that allows these plants to be detachably fixed to the facade, and preferably temporarily removed. This makes it easier to access the plants and allows a single worker to perform maintenance. That is, the worker can approach the building from the ground, or more generally from the base of the plants, move the plants away from the building, perform maintenance, and return them to their original position. Furthermore, because the plants can be temporarily removed from the facade, it becomes possible to perform work on the facade itself (e.g., maintenance, glass replacement, building relocation, etc.). [0018] <Definitions> In the present invention, the following terms are defined as follows.
[0019] A "cultivation tank" refers to a container (pot, planter, or tank) intended for housing plants. In a broader sense, a cultivation tank may also be used for soilless cultivation, planting pits, or underground cultivation. In this case, the anchoring means integrated with the cultivation tank may be a pile, an underground plate, or a weighted block placed in the soil.
[0020] "Building" refers to all types of (apartmental) dwellings and their components (interior walls, exterior walls, facades, or roofs), which may be vertical, horizontal, or any other orientation. More broadly, a building is a collection of multiple (apartmental) dwellings, and a greening set may be installed on multiple buildings simultaneously. This includes, for example, greening fixtures spanning courtyards or streets, or greening fixtures installed at corners between multiple blocks. Buildings include residential buildings (single-family homes, apartment buildings, garages), commercial or service buildings (workshops, factories, logistics centers, office buildings, museums, parking lots, commercial parking lots), and works of art (bridges, sound barriers, hoppers, waterways, antennas, etc.).
[0021] "Twisting" refers to how climbing plants ascend a support (such as a stake or support structure). Here, the term "twisting" includes support points (e.g., a sheet supported by a trellis system), hooks (by the plant's attachment organs or artificial attachment organs), or entanglement (e.g., tendrils).
[0022] "Facade" refers to the part of a building that is subject to greening.
[0023] A "trellis system" refers to a support that allows climbing or trailing plants to anchor themselves during their growth, for example, by twining around it. A trellis system can have any shape suitable for plant growth. It can be a grid, mesh, or a wire network structure of any kind. A trellis system can also support the roots of potted plants. Furthermore, the overall shape of the trellis system surface is not necessarily limited. For example, it may be planar or tubular.
[0024] "Climbing plants" refer to plants that require support for their stems to grow upright. These plants cannot climb without support. Some plants develop organs (vines, suction cups, tendrils, aerial roots) to attach directly to the support. Others simply wrap around the support. If a plant does not wrap around, it needs to be tied to the support. In the case of a plant that wraps around, the structure of the plant itself (stem, leaves, or tendrils) wraps around the support without directly attaching to it. Without support, climbing plants become creeping plants if their roots are in the ground, and trailing plants if their roots are at a higher position. <Detailed explanation>
[0025] This disclosure relates to a removable greening device for buildings. The device is intended to be placed near the facade of a building while allowing for the temporary removal of plants.
[0026] This removable greening device includes anchoring means 10 intended for fixation to a building. These anchoring means ensure the device is fixed and securely positioned. The anchoring means 10 may be fixing points such as dowels, rings, hooks, load-bearing wires, hook bars, concrete blocks, or rocks. These anchoring means may be integrally formed with the growing tank 20 for receiving plants.
[0027] The removable greening device also includes a removable support 12. This removable support 12 has a first fixing means at its first end for being fixed to an anchoring means. Thus, its first end is fixed to the building in the vicinity of the location where the plant roots will be installed.
[0028] Finally, the removable greening device includes a tension system 14. The second end of the removable support 12 engages with the tension system 14. In a block configuration, the tension system 14 can hold the removable support 12 by applying tensile force to it, and in a sliding configuration, it allows the removable support 12 to slide freely. Thus, although the removable support 12 is fixed to the anchoring means 10 and the tension system 14, the removable support 12 can be pulled or released. When pulled, the removable support 12 is close to the building facade. When released, the removable support 12 can be moved and installed away from the building facade.
[0029] The removable support 12 enables greening through its plant growth support function. Two embodiments are possible. One is a linear support on which plants can partially wrap. For climbing plants, this is done naturally, and for non-climbing plants, attachment members are used. Here, "partially" means that the plant wraps around a portion of the support 12 when tension is applied, and this portion is located between the anchoring means 10 and the tensioning system 14. The other is a trellis system 18 on which climbing plants can partially wrap. Preferably, the trellis system 18 extends in a range between the anchoring means 10 and the tensioning system 14 when tension is applied. Similarly, here "partially" means that the plant wraps around all or part of the trellis system 18. Plants can wrap around the removable support 12 by natural wrapping or by using attachment members such as cords, elastic bands, or rings. The fixing member is configured to allow at least one plant branch (preferably a vine-like branch) to be inserted between the mounting member and the removable support 12, thereby securing the branch between the mounting member and the removable support 12. For example, each mounting member has a generally hook-like or loop-like shape.
[0030] Therefore, the greening system provides mechanical support for plants through removable supports 12. When tension is applied, the plants are close to the building and extend from the anchoring means 10 towards the tensioning system 14. This mechanical support can be detached from the building, making it possible to remove the greening set. In fact, if necessary, the tension on the removable supports 12 can be released and it can be slid into the tensioning system 14. The plants remain wrapped around the removable supports 12 (or trellis system 18), and in the case of climbing plants, they naturally move towards the ground with the supports 12. This allows access to the building's facade and enables plant maintenance (pruning, trellis construction, thinning, etc.) to be performed with the roots in the ground or with the plant roots resting on balconies or terraces, eliminating the need for heavy and expensive equipment such as aerial work platforms or scaffolding. It also reduces the risk of damage to the plants. The same principle applies if a plant falls; by placing the anchoring point 10 at the top and the rest of the system at the bottom, the falling plant can be lifted away from the building. After the plant care and facade work are complete, the plants are returned to their original positions by restoring the tension of the removable supports 12.
[0031] Furthermore, by using the device of this disclosure to green buildings, the number of holes that need to be drilled into the building can be reduced compared to conventional trellis systems and mesh-type supports that require numerous fixing points on the wall surface.
[0032] In one embodiment particularly suitable for greening where climbing plants directly attach to the support, the removable support 12 is installed so that the climbing plants do not come into contact with the building's facade. The distance between the facade and the removable support under tension is appropriately 50 cm or 1 m. This spacing of the facade is also favorable for plant growth, as it allows the plants to utilize a wider space and receive more sunlight.
[0033] The dimensions of removable greening devices are basically determined by the building to be greened and the plants used.
[0034] In the case of greening using wisteria, the height of the greening can reach 30m. In this case, the length of the removable support 12 is between 5m and 60m and consists of stainless steel cable with a diameter of 5mm.
[0035] In the case of greening using morning glories (Ipomoea), the height of the greening can reach 15m. In this case, the length of the removable supports 12 is between 3m and 30m and consists of stainless steel cable with a diameter of 3mm.
[0036] It should be noted that the removable support 12 may consist of multiple sections connected to one another by hooks, snap hooks, or other means of connection. In fact, climbing plants installed in removable greening devices are generally grown with the support in place in a seedbed. This support does not need to be very long in the early stages of the plant's growth. For example, the growth of wisteria can be started with a 4m high cable. Once the climbing plant is established, the initial 4m cable section is then supplemented by a second section whose length is adjusted according to the height of the building being greened, completing the desired removable support 12.
[0037] If the removable support 12 is a linear support, it can be selected from cables, chains, ropes, or wires, whether braided or not. The cross-section of the linear support may be circular, square, rectangular, or triangular. The linear support may also be in the form of a strip, preferably perforated. Fiber strips with a natural weave are particularly suitable. Finally, the linear support may have surface irregularities such as convex, concave, protrusion, or notch. The selection of the linear support depends on the balance between resistance (resistance to wind, resistance to fixing), weight, tensile strength, linear expansion, and adaptability to plant growth.
[0038] The tensioning system 14 can be constructed using any known device. Preferably, the tensioning system 14 includes a winding system 141 such as a winding machine or winch. In fact, by providing a winding device, it is possible to prevent a portion of the removable support 12 that is not under tension from being left on the ground or building when tension is applied, thus preventing it from posing a danger to users.
[0039] The tension system 14 can be remotely controlled, for example, by a control device located near the anchoring means 10.
[0040] In one embodiment, the greening device further includes a return mechanism 16 fixed to the building, where the removable support 12 can be folded or freely slid. Thus, this embodiment allows for adjustment of the paths that plants cover on the building, enabling multi-directional greening.
[0041] A significant advantage is that the return mechanism 16 is positioned at the top of the building, or the highest point the greening set must reach, and the removable support 12, which slides within the return mechanism 16, is folded so that the tensioning system 14 can be positioned closer to the anchor mechanism 10. Thus, the system, which allows the plants to be kept away from the building's facade, is positioned close to the base of the plants. Temporary removal of the greening set and maintenance of the plants can be easily performed by one person. In this advantageous embodiment, the plants, under tension, wrap around the portion of the removable support 12 contained between the anchor mechanism 10 and the return mechanism 16. The return mechanism 16 is preferably selected from pulleys, rings, bars, or sliders.
[0042] In an embodiment particularly advantageous for use at high altitudes, the return mechanism 16 is electrically operated to assist in adjusting the tension of and removing the removable support 12. An electric pulley is suitable for this purpose.
[0043] The removable greening device can be installed in any orientation suitable for the growth of the target plant. For example, the device can be installed vertically, with the anchor means 10 positioned at the bottom (for climbing plants) or top (for trailing plants). The device can also be tilted in a vertical plane. Furthermore, the device can be installed horizontally. In this case, the plants are called creeping plants. Finally, the device is multi-directional, particularly based on one or more return means 16. Specifically, the removable support 12 can have a branched (or diverging) structure. In this case, the removable support 12 consists of a main support to which the branched or diverging section has been added. This removable support 12 is fixed to the anchor means 10 by a fixing means at one end of the main support. The removable support 12 is also tensioned by a set of tension systems 14 acting on the main support or the branched section, respectively.
[0044] Removable greening devices can be installed to accommodate a set of climbing plants and / or trailing plants. In particular, a removable greening device may comprise multiple removable supports 12, each support being fixed and tensioned individually or in conjunction. For example, multiple removable supports 12 can be fixed to a single anchoring means 10 (e.g., an anchor bar) and tensioned using a single tensioning system 14 (e.g., a load-bearing bar). Such a device allows for removable greening over a large surface area of a building. If the removable supports 12 are substantially parallel, the greened surface will be substantially rectangular. As another example, multiple removable supports 12 can be fixed to a single anchoring point and tensioned using a load-bearing bar requiring only a single tensioning system 14. This device results in a fan-shaped green.
[0045] For very large-scale facade greening projects, the multiple removable greening devices described above can be coordinated.
[0046] In one embodiment, each greening device comprises 2 to 20 removable supports 12, and each of these devices can be operated independently.
[0047] In another embodiment, even more removable supports 12, ranging from 30 to 100, can be provided. For example, on large facades such as shopping centers or logistics warehouses, a rotating hook bar, reliably driven by a motor and functioning like a winch, can be installed on the roof. By simultaneously loosening all the removable supports 12 that are tensioned by these winches, the entire greening set can be removed from the entire facade. This embodiment is advantageous when annual plants such as morning glories (Ipomoea) are used. In fact, the above-ground parts of the plants dry out in winter and remain on the removable supports 12. The dried greening material needs to be removed during maintenance before the plants can grow again from the roots. Because the entire greening set can be removed as a whole, maintenance can be performed quickly and safely. In a typical setup, the removable supports 12 are spaced 1 to 2 meters apart within the greening system, which provides good planting cover and suppresses competition among plants.
[0048] This disclosure also relates to an assembly kit containing the elements necessary to install the removable greening device for buildings disclosed above. The kit comprises several elements that are assembled together, including: - At least one anchoring means 10 fixed to the building, - At the first end, there is at least one removable support 12 having a first fixing means that is fixed to the anchoring means 10. - At least one tension system 14 configured to do one of the following: ○ Maintaining the removable support 12 under tension in the block configuration, or ○ Allow the removable support 12 to slide freely in the sliding configuration.
[0049] The removable support 12 is a linear support on which climbing plants can partially wrap. Alternatively, the removable support 12 comprises a trellis system 18 on which climbing plants can partially wrap.
[0050] The linear support can be selected from cables, chains, ropes, or wires. The tensioning system 14 may also include a winding system 141, preferably selected from a winding machine or a winch.
[0051] The kit may further include at least one return mechanism 16 intended to be fixed to a building, in which a removable support 12 is folded and freely slidable. This return mechanism may be, for example, a pulley, ring, bar, shaft, or slider.
[0052] This disclosure also relates to a method for installing a removable greening device for a building. This method includes the following steps: - Steps to fix the anchoring means 10 to the building, - The first end of the removable support 12 is fixed to the anchoring means 10. - A step of setting up the tension system 14, wherein the tension system 14 is ○ The removable support 12 is configured to be maintained under tension in the block configuration, or ○ The removable support 12 is configured to slide freely in the sliding configuration, and - The step of engaging the removable support 12 with the tension system 14.
[0053] The removable support 12 is a linear support on which climbing plants can partially wrap. Alternatively, the removable support 12 comprises a trellis system 18 on which climbing plants can partially wrap.
[0054] This method can be implemented in completed buildings. It can also be implemented during the construction of the building, which allows for easy access to the tension system 14 and the aesthetic integration of various elements.
[0055] Finally, this disclosure relates to a method for removing a building greening set. The greening set comprises climbing plants that are wrapped around a removable support 12 or around a trellis system 18 that is fixed to the removable support 12. The removable support 12 is - Fixed to the building's anchoring means 10 at the first end, - It is fitted into a tension system 14 configured as one of the following: ○ Maintain the removable support 12 in a block configuration under tension, or ○ The removable support 12 is configured to slide freely.
[0056] This method includes the following steps. - A step of releasing the tension applied to the removable support 12 by the tension system 14, and - A step to slide a removable support 12 so that the climbing plant moves away from the building.
[0057] Furthermore, the method for removing the building's greening set may include one or more of the following steps in a technically compatible combination: - Steps include setting the tension system 14 in a block configuration and fixing the removable support 12 in an open configuration, - A step to slide a removable support 12 so that the climbing plant can be returned to the building, - Steps include setting up the tension system 14 in a block configuration and fixing the removable support 12 in a tension configuration, - Steps to pull out or hold the plant that has wrapped around the removable support 12, - A step of installing a plant by inserting at least one branch or leaf between the mounting member and the removable support 12.
[0058] This method has many advantages. Greening equipment can be temporarily removed for plant or building maintenance. Furthermore, this method eliminates the need for heavy machinery for maintenance. Additionally, it can be carried out by a single worker.
[0059] Figure 1 shows the operation of a removable greening device. A cultivation tank is installed at the base of the high-rise building. This cultivation tank is equipped with a dowel. A removable support made of 3 mm diameter metal cable is fixed to this dowel. A tension system into which the cable engages is installed on the roof of the building. Morning glories (Ipomoea) grow by wrapping themselves around the cable.
[0060] On the left side of Figure 1, the cable is under tension. That is, the cable is in a straight line with the facade, and the plants are close to the facade.
[0061] To perform plant maintenance, the cable is loosened and switched to a relaxed state, as shown on the right side of Figure 1. The plants wrapped around the cable move away from the facade and closer to the ground, allowing the gardener to perform maintenance on the plants and the facade.
[0062] Afterward, the cable returns to its original position under tension and switches to the greening set.
[0063] Figure 2 shows various removable greening devices for climbing plants on high-rise buildings.
[0064] The device shown in Figure 1 is located in the center of the building.
[0065] On the left side of the building, a device consisting of two cultivation tanks fitted with dowels is positioned on the balcony (accessible to pedestrians). A cable is secured to each dowel, and each cable engages with a tension system installed on the building's roof. The tension system is equipped with an electric winch controlled by an electrical box (not shown) installed on the cultivation tank. Between the two cables is a fibrous net trellis system with an average mesh size of 10 cm. Aristolochia plants are growing, wrapping around this trellis system. By operating the two winches, the cables can be loosened to return the trellis system and plants to the balcony side, and then the cables can be tightened to return the trellis system and plants to the facade side.
[0066] On the right side of the building, a device with two dowels attached to cultivation tanks is installed on the ground. Cables are secured to each dowel, and each cable is hung on a pulley installed at the top of the building, from which it is led to a tension system installed next to the cultivation tanks on the ground. The tension system is equipped with an electric winch. Between the two cables is a fibrous net trellis system with an average mesh size of 10 cm. Akebia grows by wrapping around this trellis system. By operating the two winches, the cables can be loosened to return the trellis system and plants to the ground, and then the cables can be tightened to return the trellis system and plants back to the facade.
[0067] Figure 3 shows different removable greening devices for trailing plants in high-rise buildings.
[0068] On the left side of the building, cultivation tanks are installed on the roof of a high-rise building. These cultivation tanks are fitted with dowels. Removable supports made of 3mm diameter metal cables are fixed to these dowels. On the ground, a tension system is installed perpendicular to the cultivation tanks, and the cables are suspended from this system. Passionflowers (Passiflora) use their tendrils to wrap around the cables and hang down.
[0069] To perform plant maintenance, the tension in the cable is released and the plant attached to the cable is pulled up to the rooftop, where the gardener can perform the necessary care. Afterwards, the cable is returned to its original tension, and the greening set is returned to its original position.
[0070] On the right side of the building, a device with cultivation tanks positioned on two dowels is mounted on the roof of the high-rise building. A cable is fixed to each dowel, and each cable is connected to a tensioning system installed on the ground perpendicular to the cultivation tank. The tensioning system is equipped with an electric winch. Between the two cables is a trellis system made of fiber netting with an average mesh size of 10 cm. Clematis droops down, wrapping around the trellis system due to the weight of its leaves. By operating the two winches, the cables can be loosened to return the trellis system and plants to the roof, and then the cables can be tightened to reinstall the trellis system and plants on the facade.
[0071] Figure 4 shows various multi-directional removable greening devices installed on high-rise buildings.
[0072] On the front facade, a device is installed on the ground with a cultivation tank fitted with two dowels. A cable is attached to each dowel. One cable is attached to a pulley installed on the building's balcony, and through this pulley, the cable is pulled back to a tension system installed next to the cultivation tank on the ground. The other cable is attached to a tension system installed on the building's balcony, forming a 30° angle with respect to the vertical line. The tension system is equipped with an electric winch, and the one installed on the balcony can be remotely operated. Chinese ivy (Holboellia coriacea, not shown) grows by wrapping around the cable. By operating both winches, the cable can be loosened to return the plant to the ground, and then tension can be applied to return the plant to the facade.
[0073] Furthermore, a multi-directional device equipped with dowels is installed on the cultivation ground along with the cable. The cable is secured to the dowels and hung on a pulley installed on the roof of the building. This pulley causes the cable to sag to the opposite end of the roof (horizontally), guiding it to a tension system installed on the ground. The wisteria climbs up, wrapping itself around the cable and sloping along it.
[0074] To perform plant maintenance, the tension on the cables is released, allowing the plants wrapped around them to descend to the ground. This allows the gardener to perform necessary maintenance. Afterward, the cables are taut again, and the greening sets are returned to their positions on the facade and roof.
[0075] Figure 5 shows various removable planting devices installed on a detached house.
[0076] A device with a cultivation tank and two dowels is installed beneath an overhang of a detached house. A cable is secured to each dowel, and each cable is wound around a pulley (left) or two pulleys (right) located beneath the overhang, returning to a tension system on the ground. Between the two cables is a fibrous net trellis system with an average mesh size of 10 cm. Kiwi (Actinidia) grows by wrapping around this trellis system. By operating two winches, the cables can be loosened to lower the trellis system and plants to the ground, and then the cables can be tightened to reinstall the trellis system and plants as a plant partition.
[0077] A device similar to the one shown in Figure 3 is installed on the terrace of a detached house located to the left of the building.
[0078] In another embodiment, as shown in Figure 6, for example, the removable greening device is positioned in a parking lot to provide shade for at least one vehicle space. For the sake of clarity in Figure 6, only the trellis system 18 and the growing tank 20 are shown. In other words, the anchoring means 10, the removable support 12, the tensioning system 14, the return means 16, and the building are omitted in Figure 6.
[0079] In some configurations, the trellis system 18 can include at least one angle. For example, the trellis system 18 can include a vertical section 181 and a horizontal section 182. In this case, the growing tank 20 is connected to the vertical section of the trellis system 18, and the climbing plants grow from the growing tank 20 up the vertical section 181 of the trellis system 18, and then down to the horizontal section 182 of the trellis system 18. The horizontal section 182 is configured to provide shade for the vehicle space. In other embodiments, the climbing plants can also be planted and grown in the ground. [Explanation of symbols]
