To provide a holding member that precisely determines the position of an optical member, a light source device, a projection device, and a method for holding an optical member.SOLUTION: An optical member 4 includes: a first contact target part provided near a first reference surface; and a second contact target part 431 provided near a second reference surface, perpendicular to the first reference surface side. The holding member 5 for holding the optical member 4 includes: a first positioning part 53 including a first contact part 531 for determining the position of a first contact target part in a first axial direction; and a second positioning part 54 including a second contact part 542 for determining the positions of a second contact target part 431 in a second axial direction and in a third axial direction, perpendicular to the first axial direction of the second contact target part.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 9
