Abstract

An embodiment of the present invention provides an optical transmitter (11) for transmitting a vector of information symbols over an optical fiber transmission channel (13) made of a multicore fiber, wherein an optical signal carrying the information symbol vector propagates along the multicore fiber according to two or more cores, the optical transmitter (11) including a precoder (87) configured to determine a precoding matrix according to one or more fiber parameters associated with the multicore fiber and to precode the vector of information symbols by multiplying the vector of information symbols by the precoding matrix.
