Abstract
The present invention provides small, stable, artificial antibody-like molecules for a variety of therapeutic and diagnostic applications, including ocular diseases and disorders. [Solution] Non-naturally occurring cystine-knot peptides (CKPs) that bind to VEGF-A are provided, the CKPs comprising a cystine scaffold structure and binding to VEGF-A with an affinity better than 500 pM. Methods of using the non-naturally occurring CKPs that bind to VEGF-A, including diagnostic and therapeutic compositions and methods, are provided. Non-naturally occurring CKPs that bind to low-density lipoprotein receptor-related protein 6 (LRP6) are also provided.
