Pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating cancer comprising recombinant stabilized galectin 9 protein

Abstract

The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating cancer, comprising a recombinant stabilized galectin-9 protein. More specifically, treatment of cancer cells with the recombinant stabilized galectin-9 protein inhibited cancer cell growth and induced cell death. Administration of the recombinant stabilized galectin-9 protein to an animal model of cancer reduced cancer tissue size and increased survival rate without side effects such as weight loss. It was also confirmed that administration of the recombinant stabilized galectin-9 protein in combination with an anticancer drug exhibited synergistic anticancer activity. Therefore, pharmaceutical compositions comprising the recombinant stabilized galectin-9 protein of the present invention as an active ingredient can be useful for preventing or treating cancer.
