AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing acrylic resin compositions face challenges in achieving impact resistance, transparency over a wide temperature range, and melt moldability, particularly when incorporating core-shell rubbers, which can increase melt viscosity and reduce moldability, and result in decreased transparency in high-temperature environments or film whitening upon bending.

Method used

A resin composition is developed that blends a block/graft copolymer with acrylic resin, comprising a macromonomer and comonomers like acrylate and aromatic vinyl, with specific molecular weight and content ratios, allowing for a microphase-separated structure that maintains transparency and impact resistance.

Benefits of technology

The composition achieves excellent impact resistance, transparency over a wide temperature range, and suppresses film whitening upon bending, with improved melt moldability suitable for thin or complex shapes.

Abstract

To provide a copolymer to be used as a raw material of a film-like molding which is excellent in impact resistance and transparency in a wide use temperature range and can suppress film whitening on bending.SOLUTION: The copolymer contains: a structural unit derived from a macromonomer (A) having a specific structure; and a structural unit derived from a comonomer (B) copolymerizable with the macromonomer (A). The copolymer has a mass average molecular weight (Mw) of 240,000 or more and 3,500,000 or less. The structural unit derived from the comonomer (B) contains a structural unit derived from an acrylate (B1) and a structural unit derived from an aromatic vinyl (B2).SELECTED DRAWING: None
