Abstract
Description
[Technical field]
[0001] The present invention relates to the display field, and in particular to a transparent flexible LED panel with touch sensor function. [Background technology]
[0002] A transparent flexible display with a touch panel allows a viewer to see the scenery and scenes behind the display while viewing the information displayed on the display, due to the display's transparency. For example, if the display has a high transmittance, a transparent flexible display with a touch panel can be installed on the windshield of a car, enabling safe driving. Being flexible means that the display and glass can be attached without any gaps, even if the glass is curved, which prevents uneven air spaces and wrinkles, and does not create layers of light with different localized refraction, eliminating distortion of the displayed information and the scenery and landscape seen through the display, as well as minute blemishes on the display, and thus eliminating any adverse effects on driving. With the touch sensor function, the driver can display the desired screen or operate additional equipment by touching the operating surface of the touch panel, making it possible to efficiently travel to a destination or search for driving-related information while driving.
[0003] However, when driving a car, if a transparent flexible display with a touch panel is attached to the windshield, for example, high transparency is required to ensure safety. In addition, when displaying information on the display, high brightness is required to display information with high quality even outdoors. When the windshield or other interior glass is curved, the display must have flexibility with good conformity so that it can be attached to the glass without any gaps, and it must also be thin to improve design so that it can be integrated with the curved glass. Furthermore, since automobiles are often exposed to sunlight, displays attached to the windshield, etc., must be highly resistant to ultraviolet rays and temperature, and must also have a long lifespan.Touch sensor functions are also essential to improve driving efficiency. However, the liquid crystal panels and organic electroluminescence (EL) panels currently used as flat panel displays cannot simultaneously realize all of these functions.
[0004] 21 shows a cross-sectional view and a plan view of a conventional liquid crystal panel with a touch panel. Reference numeral 131 shows a schematic cross-sectional view of a liquid crystal panel with a touch panel. Reference numeral 132 shows a color filter pattern (plan view). Reference numeral 133 shows display pixels (plan view) of the liquid crystal panel. The main components of the liquid crystal panel 134 are a surface glass 135 , a color filter 136 , a liquid crystal cell 137 , a backlight 138 , and a lower glass 139 . Since the liquid crystal panel 134 uses a light modulation method to visualize display information, a polarizing plate (not shown) is provided, but the provision of the polarizing plate reduces the transmittance to about 1 / 2, so even if the brightness of the backlight 138 is high, the brightness is reduced to 1 / 2 just by passing through the polarizing plate, making it difficult to display with high brightness. Also, since the size of the color filter pattern 132 is designed to be sufficiently large in order to increase the light utilization efficiency, the transparent electrode (not shown) of the touch sensor formed on the touch panel 140 provided directly above the liquid crystal panel 134 overlaps with the position of the color filter 136, which has a large pattern size. If the transmittance of the transparent electrode is T%, the brightness of the display pixel 133 of the liquid crystal panel where it overlaps will also decrease by T%, which will degrade the display quality outdoors where sunlight hits. Furthermore, when attaching the conventional LCD panel with a touch panel shown in FIG. 21 to the windshield of an automobile or the like, it is desirable to make it as thin as possible, but the configuration of LCD panel 134 requires a completely sealed structure in which glass is provided on both sides, for example, front glass 135 and bottom glass 139, and the use of two pieces of glass places restrictions on how thin it can be made.
[0005] 22 shows a cross-sectional view and a plan view of a conventional organic EL panel with a touch panel. Reference numeral 151 shows a schematic cross-sectional view of an organic EL panel with a touch panel. Reference numeral 152 shows a pixel pattern (plan view) of an RGB light-emitting layer. Reference numeral 153 shows a display pixel (plan view) of the organic EL panel. The main components of the organic EL panel 154 are a surface glass 155, an RGB light-emitting layer 156, and a bottom glass 157. The organic EL panel 154 is a self-luminous type in which the RGB light-emitting layer 156 emits light when a DC voltage is applied to both ends, and therefore does not generally require a color filter as in a liquid crystal panel, resulting in high light utilization efficiency. However, since the RGB light-emitting layer 156 uses an organic EL material, its luminous efficiency is low, and if the organic EL panel is provided on the windshield of a car, the contrast will deteriorate and the display quality will be significantly reduced if external light hits the organic EL panel. If the brightness of the RGB light-emitting layer 156 is increased to increase the contrast, there is a drawback in that the temperature of the RGB light-emitting layer 156 will rise, causing deterioration of the characteristics and shortening the lifespan.
[0006] Furthermore, in order to increase the luminance of RGB light-emitting layer 156, pattern 152 of the RGB light-emitting layer is designed to have a sufficiently large area. Therefore, a transparent electrode (not shown) of a touch sensor formed on touch panel 158 provided directly above organic EL panel 154 overlaps with the position of RGB light-emitting layer 156, which has a large pattern size. If the transmittance of the transparent electrode is T%, then the luminance of display pixel 153 of the organic EL panel at the overlapping portion decreases by T%, thereby degrading the quality of display when outdoors where sunlight is shining. Furthermore, since the RGB light-emitting layer 156 uses an organic EL material, it has poor resistance to ultraviolet rays and temperature, and there is a problem in extending its life. Furthermore, when attaching the conventional organic EL panel with a touch panel shown in FIG. 22 to the windshield of an automobile or the like, it is desirable to make it as thin as possible, but the configuration of organic EL panel 154 requires a completely sealed structure in which glass is provided on both sides of front glass 155 and bottom glass 157, and the use of two pieces of glass places restrictions on how thin it can be made.
[0007] Also, according to Patent Document 1, a structure is presented in which one of the substrates constituting the organic EL panel and the other substrate constituting the touch panel are made into a common substrate to achieve a thinner and lighter design, but problems remain with organic EL panels, such as high brightness display, weather resistance, and long life, making it difficult to apply the panel to the in-vehicle field, for example, where high brightness display, weather resistance, and long life are strongly required.LEDs (light-emitting diodes), which enable high brightness display, weather resistance, and long life, are suitable for use in the in-vehicle field, but the structure of Patent Document 1 has a transparent electrode (anode) on the display side of the common substrate, which causes the problem that LEDs cannot be used in the display. [0008] [Patent Document 1] JP 2003-296032 A Summary of the Invention [Problem to be solved by the invention]
[0009] As described above, when a touch panel-equipped liquid crystal panel or an organic EL panel is provided on the windshield of an automobile, etc., it is not possible to simultaneously achieve high brightness display, weather resistance, long life, and thinness, leaving problems in terms of driving safety, quality of displayed information, and design related to thinness, etc. In view of this situation, the present invention aims to provide an LED panel integrated with a touch panel that can simultaneously achieve high brightness display, high quality display, weather resistance, long life, and thinness, and when installed on the windshield of an automobile, can simultaneously realize driving safety, quality of displayed information, and design related to thinness. [Means for solving the problem]
[0010] In order to solve the above problems, the touch panel integrated LED panel according to the first aspect of the present invention comprises an LED light emitting substrate configured by vertically and horizontally arranging first LEDs, each of which is an integrated LED chip that emits red, blue, and green light and a control unit that controls the light emission of the LED chip, and a touch panel attached to the bottom surface of the space on the light emitting surface side of the LED light emitting substrate. With this configuration, a structure is obtained in which the bottom surface of the touch panel is attached to the space on the light emitting surface side of the LED light emitting substrate, which eliminates the need for a transparent substrate on the light emitting surface side of the LED light emitting substrate, and the transparency of the touch panel integrated LED panel is increased, enabling safe driving even when the panel is installed on the windshield of an automobile. In addition, because there is no need for a transparent substrate on the light-emitting surface side of the LED light-emitting substrate, the touch panel integrated LED panel can be made thinner. This allows for a structure that is integrated with the glass even when attached to car glass, improving the design.
[0011] The touch panel integrated LED panel according to the second aspect of the present invention has a flat-mounted or bullet-shaped LED mounted with LED bare chips that emit red, blue, and green light as the second LEDs, an LED light emitting substrate configured by arranging the second LEDs vertically and horizontally, and a touch panel attached to the surface of the space on the light emitting surface side of the LED light emitting substrate. This configuration results in a structure in which the touch panel's lower surface is attached to the surface of the space on the light emitting surface side of the LED light emitting substrate, which eliminates the need for a transparent substrate on the light emitting surface side of the LED light emitting substrate, and the transparency of the touch panel integrated LED panel is increased, enabling safe driving even when the panel is installed on the windshield of an automobile. In addition, because there is no need for a transparent substrate on the light-emitting surface side of the LED light-emitting substrate, the touch panel integrated LED panel can be made thinner. This allows for a structure that is integrated with the glass even when attached to car glass, improving the design.
[0012] The touch panel integrated LED panel according to the third aspect of the present invention comprises an LED light emitting substrate configured by mounting LED bare chips emitting red, blue, and green light near a driving TFT circuit previously formed on a transparent substrate, the LED bare chips electrically connected to the driving TFT circuit being used as third LEDs, and arranging the third LEDs vertically and horizontally, and bonding the bottom surface of a touch panel to the surface forming the space on the light emitting surface side of the LED light emitting substrate. This configuration results in a structure in which the bottom surface of the touch panel is bonded to the surface forming the space on the light emitting surface side of the LED light emitting substrate, which eliminates the need for a transparent substrate on the light emitting surface side of the LED light emitting substrate, thereby increasing the transparency of the touch panel integrated LED panel and enabling safe driving even when the panel is mounted on the windshield of an automobile or the like. In addition, because there is no need for a transparent substrate on the light-emitting surface side of the LED light-emitting substrate, the touch panel integrated LED panel can be made thinner. This allows for a structure that is integrated with the glass even when attached to car glass, improving the design.
[0013] In the touch panel integrated LED panel of the present invention, it is preferable that all base materials constituting the LED light emitting substrate and the touch panel are transparent flexible substrates. With such a configuration, a transparent display can be realized, so that the scenery and scenes behind the display can be seen, and even if the display is installed on the windshield of a car, safe driving is ensured. Furthermore, since the display is flexible, even if the windshield of a car is curved, the display and the glass can be attached without any gaps, preventing uneven air layers and wrinkles, and thus preventing the occurrence of locally different refraction layers of light, which leads to the elimination of distortion of the displayed information and the scenery and scenes seen through the display, and fine spots such as dirt on the display, leading to safe driving of the car.
[0014] In the touch panel integrated LED panel of the present invention, the materials used for all the base materials of the LED light emitting substrate and the touch panel may be organic insulating materials such as polyimide (PI), polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP / OPP), polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polyethylene naphthalate (PEN), polyvinyl chloride resin (PVC), polystyrene (PS / OPS), acrylic (AC), polycarbonate (PC), triacetate (TAC), etc. In particular, when a polyimide material having a heat resistance of 200°C or more is used, the soldering temperature can be sufficiently high, so that stable and strong soldering is possible, leading to improved reliability of the electric circuit system. This improves resistance to vibration, so that a long life can be achieved. In addition, since polyimide materials have heat resistance to the process temperature for producing the TFT circuit, a highly reliable TFT circuit can be produced by using a polyimide film. If the process temperature of the TFT circuit can be increased in this way, a material with high mobility can be used, so that a high performance (high reliability) TFT circuit can be obtained.
[0015] In the touch panel integrated LED panel of the present invention, the materials used for all the base materials of the LED light emitting substrate and the touch panel are inorganic glass having a thickness of 200 μm or less to provide flexibility, and it is also acceptable that the glass does not crack or become cloudy even if it is bent and stretched by 180° multiple times around a rod with a curvature of 1 mm or more. With this configuration, when a TFT circuit is fabricated on the surface of the glass, it is possible to fabricate a TFT circuit using low-temperature polysilicon transistors or oxide semiconductors with excellent performance because the heat resistance temperature of glass is high. This results in a high-performance (highly reliable) TFT circuit, which can be made to have high brightness and a long life.
[0016] In the touch panel-integrated LED panel of the present invention, when the chip sizes of the first LED, the second LED, and the third LED mounted on the LED light-emitting substrate are each denoted as S, and the length between the chips of the first LED, the length between the chips of the second LED, and the length between the chips of the third LED are each denoted as P, and when the ratio of S / P is K, the square of K (K2 ) value range is 0.0025≦K 2 ≦0.96. This configuration enables high brightness, and high-quality display information can be obtained even in bright outdoor environments. In addition, high-definition wiring patterns for driving and high-density mounting of LED chips are possible, so that display information with high visibility can be obtained.
[0017] In the touch panel-integrated LED panel of the present invention, when the chip sizes of the first LED, the second LED, and the third LED are respectively denoted by S, and the length between the chips of the first LED, the second LED, and the third LED are respectively denoted by P, the transparent length L obtained by subtracting S from P may be such that, when the width of the first electrode and the width of the second electrode provided on the touch panel are respectively denoted by c, the width of the first electrode and the width of the second electrode c satisfy the transparent length L≧c, and the first electrodes and the second electrodes do not overlap with the positions of the LED chips mounted on the LED light-emitting substrate. If the first electrode and second electrode provided on the touch panel are arranged so as not to overlap the positions of the first LED, second LED, and third LED, the light emitted from the first LED, second LED, and third LED can reach the display surface of the touch panel-integrated LED panel without being blocked by the first electrode and second electrode, thereby enabling a high-brightness display that maintains the brightness of each LED, which emits high brightness, and enabling a high-quality display even outdoors in direct sunlight.
[0018] The touch panel integrated LED panel of the present invention may be such that the LED chips used in the first LED, second LED, and third LED mounted on the LED light emitting substrate are LED chips fabricated by growing GaN crystals on a sapphire substrate and using p-type and n-type GaN semiconductors as a base. With this configuration, desired information can be accurately displayed at the touched position by touching the operation surface of the touch panel. In addition, if the transparent substrate on the top surface of the touch panel is made of a transparent polyimide material, it is chemically resistant and therefore high reliability and long life can be ensured.
[0019] The touch panel integrated LED panel of the present invention may be a touch panel in which a plurality of first electrodes (vertical direction) and a plurality of second electrodes (horizontal direction) are provided on the touch panel in an orthogonal state (grid pattern) while maintaining insulation, the first electrodes are provided on the first substrate, the second electrodes are provided on the second substrate, a transparent adhesive is provided between the surface of the first substrate on which the first electrodes are provided and the surface of the second substrate on which the second electrodes are not provided, and a transparent adhesive is provided between the surface of the second substrate on which the second electrodes are provided and the lower surface of the transparent substrate, and the first substrate, the second substrate, and the transparent substrate are firmly bonded to each other by the transparent adhesive. With this configuration, by touching the operation surface of the touch panel, desired information can be accurately displayed at the touched position. Furthermore, if the transparent substrate is made of a transparent polyimide material, it has chemical resistance and can be made to have a long life.
[0020] The touch panel integrated LED panel of the present invention may be a touch panel in which a plurality of first electrodes (vertical direction) and a plurality of second electrodes (horizontal direction) are provided on the touch panel in an orthogonal state (grid pattern) while maintaining insulation, the second electrodes are provided on the lower surface of a transparent substrate, an adhesive layer is formed on the surface of the transparent substrate using a transparent adhesive, the first electrodes are provided on the adhesive layer surface, and a protective layer is provided on the surface of the transparent substrate. With this configuration, desired information can be accurately displayed at the touched position by touching the operating surface of the touch panel. Furthermore, if the transparent substrate is made of a transparent polyimide material, it has chemical resistance and can be made to have a long life.
[0021] The touch panel integrated LED panel of the present invention may use a dispersion type liquid crystal film with variable transmittance or other films with variable transmittance as the base substrate of the LED light emitting substrate. With this configuration, when you want to focus on the display screen, the LED light emitting substrate can be made opaque, making it possible to use services that require you to focus on the display screen. Effect of the Invention
[0022] When the touch panel-integrated LED panel of the present invention is installed on the windshield of an automobile, etc., it is possible to simultaneously achieve high brightness display, high quality display, weather resistance, long life, and thinness, thereby achieving the effects of simultaneously realizing safety during driving, quality of displayed information, and design related to thinness. [0024] Hereinafter, an example of an embodiment of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the drawings. Note that the scope of the present invention is not limited to the following examples and illustrated examples, and many modifications and variations are possible. Example 1
[0025] Figure 1 shows a cross-sectional view and a plan view of a touch panel integrated LED panel. The touch panel integrated LED panel 1 is composed of an LED light emitting substrate 2, an RGB LED chip 3 provided on the LED light emitting substrate 2, and a touch panel 4. Here, R indicates an LED chip that emits red light, G indicates blue light, and B indicates green light. The RGB LED chip 5 is a plan view of the RGB LED chip 3. The display surface 6 of the LED panel shows the display surface of the touch panel integrated LED panel 1 as seen from above. The chip size of each of the RGB LED chips 5 is usually sufficiently smaller than the pixel sizes of the black pixel 7, green pixel 8, and white pixel 9 as shown on the display surface 6 of the LED panel. For example, the total area of the three chip sizes of the RGB LED chip 5 is often 96% or less of the pixel areas of the black pixel 7, green pixel 8, and white pixel 9 shown on the display surface 6 of the LED panel, but it may be about 0.25% to 96% depending on the performance of the display. Each of the RGB LED chips 5 used here is an LED chip based on p-type and n-type GaN semiconductors, with GaN crystals grown on a sapphire substrate.
[0026] LED chips produced by growing GaN crystals on a sapphire substrate have high luminous efficiency and a long lifespan. In addition, because the LED chips are made of inorganic materials, they are highly resistant to ultraviolet rays and heat even when exposed to strong sunlight. Furthermore, since the size of each RGB LED chip 5 is much smaller than the size of the black pixels 7, green pixels 8, and white pixels 9 on the display surface 6 of the LED panel, the transparent electrodes (not shown) of the touch sensor formed on the touch panel 4 provided directly above the LED light-emitting substrate 2 and the RGB LED chip 5 can be positioned not to overlap, so that the light emitted from the RGB LED chip 5 reaches the display surface 6 of the LED panel without being blocked by the transparent electrodes. This allows display at a luminance that maintains the brightness of the RGB LED chip 5, which emits high luminance, making it possible to achieve a high-luminance display and high-quality display even outdoors where sunlight is shining.
[0027] In addition, the conventional LCD panel with a touch panel shown in FIG. 21 and the conventional OLED panel with a touch panel shown in FIG. 22 have a completely unsealed structure with front and back glass on both sides due to the display method, characteristics of the materials used, and manufacturing process, making it difficult to make them thin. However, this panel has a structure in which the bottom surface 50 of the touch panel 4 is bonded to the surface forming space 51 of the LED light-emitting substrate 2 on which the RGB LED chip 3 is mounted, thereby eliminating the need for a transparent substrate on the light-emitting surface side of the LED light-emitting substrate 2, thereby improving the transparency of the touch panel-integrated LED panel 1. Also, instead of the surface glass 135 of the liquid crystal panel with a touch panel or the surface glass 155 used in the organic EL panel with a touch panel, the underside 50 of the touch panel 4 is directly bonded to the surface forming the space 51 of the LED light-emitting substrate 2, which contributes to a thinner design and prevents impurities such as dust and dirt from adhering to the RGB LED chip 3, thereby preventing a decrease in brightness.
[0028] The base substrate 21 (see FIG. 3 or FIG. 7) of the LED light-emitting substrate 2 in the touch panel-integrated LED panel 1 of the present invention and the base substrates constituting the touch panel 4 (transparent substrate 61, first substrate 65, and second substrate 66 in FIG. 8) are made of transparent flexible substrates. As materials for transparent flexible substrates, it is preferable to use organic insulating materials such as polyimide (PI), polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP / OPP), polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polyethylene naphthalate (PEN), polyvinyl chloride resin (PVC), polystyrene (PS / OPS), acrylic (AC), polycarbonate (PC), triacetate (TAC), etc. In particular, by using polyimide materials with heat resistance of 200°C or more, the soldering temperature can be raised sufficiently, enabling stable and strong soldering, which leads to improved reliability of the electrical circuit system. This improves resistance to vibration, thereby extending the lifespan. Polyimide materials also have thermal durability against the process temperatures used to create TFT (Thin Film Transistor) circuits, so highly reliable TFT circuits can be created by using polyimide films. Increasing the process temperature for TFT circuits in this way allows the use of materials with high mobility, resulting in high-performance (high-reliability) TFT circuits. The above materials are transparent and flexible, and in particular, films or sheets made of organic materials have a low specific gravity of around 1, making it possible to realize a lightweight touch panel-integrated LED panel 1.
[0029] As the inorganic material, it is preferable to use glass with a thickness of 200 μm or less to provide flexibility. For example, by using the touch panel integrated LED panel 1, which does not crack or become cloudy even when the glass is bent and stretched by 180 degrees multiple times around a rod with a curvature of 1 mm or more, when a TFT circuit is fabricated on the surface of the glass, it is possible to fabricate a TFT circuit using low-temperature polysilicon transistors or oxide semiconductors with excellent performance because the heat resistance temperature of glass is high. This results in a high-performance (highly reliable) TFT circuit, which can be made to have high brightness and a long life. Furthermore, a dispersion type liquid crystal film with variable transmittance or other films with variable transmittance may be used for the base substrate 21 of the LED light-emitting substrate 2. By using these films in the touch panel-integrated LED panel 1, the LED light-emitting substrate 21 can be made opaque when the user wants to focus on the display screen, making it possible to use services that require the user to focus on the display screen.
[0030] By realizing such a touch panel integrated LED panel 1, the following effects can be obtained. 1) While viewing the information displayed on the screen, the display's transparency allows you to see the scenery and landscape behind the screen. 2) The realization of a highly transparent display will enable safe driving even when the display is installed on the windshield of a car. 3) Because it is flexible, even if the windshield of a car is curved, the display and the glass can be attached without any gaps, preventing uneven air spaces and wrinkles, and since there is no locally different refraction layer of light, there is no distortion of the displayed information or the scenery or scene seen through the display, and there are no fine spots such as dirt on the display, so there is no impact on driving. In addition, the use of a flexible film makes it possible to reduce weight. 4) The touch sensor function allows the driver to display the desired screen or operate additional devices by touching the operating surface of the touch panel, enabling efficient driving to a destination and the searching of driving-related information while driving. 5) The touch panel integrated LED panel 1 is made of a material that is highly resistant to ultraviolet rays and temperature, such as transparent polyimide, which allows for a long lifespan and makes it suitable for use by attaching it to the windshield of an automobile exposed to sunlight. 6) GaN crystals are grown on a sapphire substrate, and LED chips based on p-type and n-type GaN semiconductors are used, enabling highly efficient light emission and reducing power consumption.
[0031] FIG. 2 shows an example of an application of the touch panel integrated LED panel 1 to an automobile. In FIG. 2(a), the automobile 10 has a box-shaped exterior, with the four corners being supports to increase mechanical strength, and the other surfaces being made of a transparent body 11 using transparent resin or transparent glass. The touch panel integrated LED panel 1 of the present invention is attached to the inner surface of the transparent body 11, and from inside the vehicle, the outside scenery and landscape can be seen while viewing the information projected on the display. It also has a touch panel function, allowing users to receive a variety of services from inside the car. The touch panel integrated LED panel 1 is constructed using materials that are highly resistant to ultraviolet rays and temperature, and has weather resistance against ultraviolet rays and temperature as well as a long lifespan. Therefore, even if it is attached to a transparent body 11 exposed to sunlight as shown in Figure 2(a), it can provide reliable display information for a long period of time.
[0032] Fig. 2(b) shows an application example of another automobile 12, in which the touch panel integrated LED panel 1 of the present invention is attached to the entire inside of the windshield 13. In particular, since the display is present on most of the surface in all directions in front of the driver, it is expected that the large screen LED panel can be viewed during the break when the car is stopped, which will relieve the fatigue of driving. Of course, since the display is provided on the entire inside of the windshield 13, it is also possible to enjoy the displayed information by displaying information on a small screen in a specific location, for example, on the right or left edge.
[0033] FIG. 2(c) shows an application example of another automobile 14, in which the touch panel integrated LED panel 1 of the present invention is attached to all glass areas inside the vehicle. In this example, the touch panel integrated LED panel 1 of the present invention is attached to the windshield 13, front door glass 15, rear door glass 16, back door glass 17, and sunroof glass 18. Since the display information is displayed on all surfaces, it is possible to create an environment in which the user is immersed in the space displayed by multiple touch panel integrated LED panels 1. By providing touch panel integrated LED panels 1 in all directions inside the vehicle in this way, new services can be expected.
[0034] Next, the RGB LED chip 3 mounted on the LED light-emitting substrate 2 constituting the touch panel integrated LED panel 1 will be described with reference to Fig. 3. The first LED 20 shown in Fig. 3 is a drive-controlled LED including the RGB LED chip 3 and a control unit 25. On the surface of the LED light-emitting substrate 2, a first LED 20 is mounted in which a red LED 22, a blue LED 23, and a green LED 24 corresponding to the RGB LED chip 3 and a control unit 25 are assembled and sealed in one package, (1) is a plan view, (2) is an AA cross-sectional view, and (3) is a BB cross-sectional view. As shown in the plan view (1) of Fig. 3, a group of three LEDs, the red LED 22, the blue LED 23, and the green LED 24, becomes one pixel, which is the smallest unit that constitutes the display screen of the display. The LED light-emitting substrate 2 in which the first LEDs 20 are mounted two-dimensionally vertically and horizontally on a transparent flexible substrate becomes an LED panel (display).
[0035] Here, the base substrate 21 of the LED light emitting substrate 2 uses an insulating material such as polyimide (PI), polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP / OPP), polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polyethylene naphthalate (PEN), polyvinyl chloride resin (PVC), polystyrene (PS / OPS), acrylic (AC), polycarbonate (PC), triacetate (TAC), etc. as an organic material. In particular, when forming a copper foil electrode pattern on the base substrate 21 and soldering the first LED 20 at high temperatures, it is preferable to use a polyimide material having a heat resistance of 200°C or more. As an inorganic material, it is preferable to use glass having a thickness of 200 μm or less in order to provide flexibility. For example, a thickness that does not cause cracks or clouding even when the glass is bent and stretched 180° 100 times or more around a rod with a curvature of 1 mm or more is preferable. In this embodiment, the first LED 20 uses WS2812, which is sold as a product by WorldSemi Inc. Also, WS2822S may be used. When a display signal sent from a display signal generator 34 (shown in FIG. 4) is applied to an input terminal 27 of the first LED 20, the control unit 25 performs processing corresponding to a predetermined signal protocol, thereby sending a light-emitting signal 28 to each LED, and each LED lights up with a brightness corresponding to the information of the light-emitting signal 28. From an output terminal 29 of the control unit 25, a display signal corresponding to the first LED 20 (not shown) prepared in the next stage is output.
[0036] FIG. 4 shows an example of an LED light-emitting substrate 2 configured using four first LEDs 20. In FIG. FIG. 5 is a timing chart 40 of display data given to the input terminals of the control units 25 (a1 to a4) provided in the four first LEDs 20 shown in FIG. 4 and 5, a display signal 41 sent from the display signal generator 34 is applied to the input terminal 27(a1) of the control unit 25(a1) through the input terminal 32 of the LED light-emitting board 2. The display signal 41 sent from the display signal generator 34 is, in chronological order, pixel data 45 of the control unit 25(a1), pixel data 46 of the control unit 25(a2), pixel data 47 of the control unit 25(a3), and pixel data 48 of the control unit 25(a4). The pixel data 45 of the control unit 25(a1), the pixel data 46 of the control unit 25(a2), the pixel data 47 of the control unit 25(a3), and the pixel data 48 of the control unit 25(a4) each have 8 bits of information, totaling 24 bits, as brightness information for the green LED 24, the blue LED 23, and the red LED 22, and the brightness information for each LED can be expressed as 256 levels, and the color information for the three colors of green, blue, and red (256 cubed) can be expressed as 16 million colors. The a1 signal 41 applied to the input terminal 27(a1) of the control unit 25(a1) takes in only the pixel data 45 of the control unit 25(a1) in the control unit 25(a1), and sends it as the light emission signal 28 to the green LED 24, the blue LED 23, and the red LED 22 as light emission information. The output terminal 29 of the control unit 25(a1) sends an a2 signal 42 to the next-stage control unit 25(a2). However, the a2 signal 42 does not include the pixel data 45 of the control unit 25(a1) since it has already been processed.
[0037] In the same manner, the control units 25(a1), 25(a2), 25(a3), and 25(a4) of the four first LEDs 20 individually receive the pixel data 45 of the control unit 25(a1), the pixel data 46 of the control unit 25(a2), the pixel data 47 of the control unit 25(a3), and the pixel data 48 of the control unit 25(a4), respectively, so that the green LED 24, the blue LED 23, and the red LED 22 built into each control unit (25(a1) to 25(a4)) light up with brightness according to the respective signals. In this manner, the four pixel data of the pixel data 45 of the control unit 25(a1), the pixel data 46 of the control unit 25(a2), the pixel data 47 of the control unit 25(a3), and the pixel data 48 of the control unit 25(a4) form a single block of cycle data 49. If the screen to be displayed is a still image, the display signal generator 34 can simply send the same cycle data 49 repeatedly. If a moving image is to be displayed, the display signal generator 34 can simply provide successively changed cycle data 49 to the LED light-emitting board 2. In this way, by making the number of WS2812 chips used corresponding to the first LED 20 (four in FIG. 4) the same as the number of pixel data constituting the cycle data 49 sent from the display signal generator 34 (four in FIG. 5), the first LED 20 can properly display the intended information.
[0038] 6 is a diagram showing an LED light-emitting substrate 2 configured by arranging four first LEDs 20 in each of the horizontal and vertical directions. In this case, an LED panel using 16 first LEDs 20 is formed. As explained in FIGS. 4 and 5, by making the number of first LEDs 20 used (four in FIG. 4) equal to the number of pixel data constituting the cycle data 49 transmitted from the display signal generator 34 (four in FIG. 5), the LED light-emitting board 2 can properly display the intended information. In FIG. 6, since the number of first LEDs 20 used is 16, proper display can be achieved by setting the number of pixel data input to the input terminal 27 of the control unit 25(a1) of the first LEDs 20 to 16.
[0039] FIG. 7 is an example of an LED light-emitting substrate 2 (LED panel) using 16 first LEDs 20, similar to FIG. 6. Here, a case is shown where the chip size of the first LED 20 is sufficiently smaller than the length between the chips of the first LED 20 in both the horizontal and vertical directions. If the chip size of the first LED 20 is S and the length between the chips of the first LED 20 is P, the smaller the ratio K of S / P, the more transparent portions the LED light-emitting substrate 2 has, and the transparency increases. Here, if the chip size S of the first LED 20 is 100 μm or less (S ≤ 100) it is a micro LED, 100 μm < S ≤ 1,000 μm is a mini LED, and 1,000 μm < S is a small LED. Micro LEDs are often used in the fields of smartphones, tablets, mini LEDs are used in PCs, TVs, signage, and small LEDs are often used in the field of large TVs (large-screen displays). In the case of a smartphone, depending on the screen size, when the horizontal pixel count reaches 8K, the length P between the chips of the first LED 20 becomes about 20 μm. On the other hand, due to technological progress, the chip size S of the first LED 20 can be made 1 μm. In this case, the ratio K of S / P becomes 0.05 (1 / 20). This value in terms of the area ratio becomes the square of K (K 2 ), so the area ratio K 2 becomes 0.0025.
[0040] Next, if the length P between the chips of the first LED 20 is 20 μm and the chip size S of the first LED 20 is 19 μm, the ratio K of S / P becomes 0.95 (19 / 20). Here, a concern when the ratio K becomes small is that the display brightness of the LED light-emitting substrate 2 (LED panel) decreases. However, since smartphones are often used indoors, the display quality is ensured, and since the luminous efficiency of LEDs is advancing rapidly day by day, it can be expected that the concern about the display brightness will be resolved.
[0041] For giant TVs (large screen displays), when the number of horizontal pixels is 8K, the length P between the chips of the first LEDs 20 will be 0.5 mm or more, depending on the screen size. On the other hand, it is assumed that the chip size S of the first LEDs 20 will be a mini LED with a chip size of 0.1 mm. In this case, the ratio K of S / P will be 0.2 (0.1 / 0.5). The length P between the first LED 20 chips is 0.5 mm, and the maximum chip size S of the first LED 20 that can be used is about 0.49 mm due to the width of the high-precision wiring pattern for driving and the positional accuracy for high-density mounting of the first LED chips. Therefore, the ratio K of S / P is 0.98 (0.49 / 0.5). In terms of area ratio, the square of K (K 2 ) so the area ratio K 2 is 0.96. As described above, for devices with small screen sizes such as smartphones and tablets, medium screen sizes such as PCs, televisions, and signage, and large screens such as giant televisions (large-screen displays), the transparency of the LED light-emitting substrate 2 is traded off with the S / P ratio K; however, by setting the ratio K to 0.98 or less (K≦0.98), the LED light-emitting substrate 2 (LED panel) can achieve a light emission brightness that is visible while also ensuring transparency. In this way, the area ratio K 2 A suitable range of use for is a minimum of 0.0025 and a maximum of 0.96.
[0042] The present invention has been described with respect to the first LED 20 including a control unit 25 in the LED, but the same concept can also be applied to the second LED shown in FIG. 14 which is composed only of an LED without a control unit 25, and the third LED using a TFT circuit as shown in FIG. 18.
[0043] Next, the configuration of the touch panel will be described. Fig. 8 is a plan view of touch panel 4, Fig. 9 is a partial cross-sectional view of touch panel 4 (cross-sectional view taken along line AA in Fig. 8), and Fig. 10 is a block diagram of the configuration of a touch panel with a control unit. 8 and 9, a plurality of first electrodes 62 (vertical direction) and a plurality of second electrodes 63 (horizontal direction) are provided in an orthogonal state (grid pattern) while maintaining insulation on the touch panel 4. Since the first electrodes 62 and the second electrodes 63 are provided orthogonal to each other in this manner, a capacitor is formed at the intersections. In addition, since the numbers of the first LEDs, second LEDs, and third LEDs provided on the LED light-emitting substrate 2 in Figures 12, 14, and 18 are four horizontally and four vertically, the number of the first electrodes 62 in Figure 8 is five, and the number of the second electrodes 63 is five. Specifically, in the touch panel 4, a first electrode 62 is provided on a first substrate 65, and a second electrode 63 is provided on a second substrate 66. The first substrate 65 and the second substrate 66, and the transparent substrate 61 and the second substrate 66 are firmly bonded with a transparent adhesive 68.
[0044] Here, in order to make the touch panel 4 transparent and flexible, the transparent substrate 61, the first substrate 65, and the second substrate 66 are made of organic materials, such as insulating materials including polyimide (PI), polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP / OPP), polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polyethylene naphthalate (PEN), polyvinyl chloride resin (PVC), polystyrene (PS / OPS), acrylic (AC), polycarbonate (PC), and triacetate (TAC). In particular, the first electrode 62 and the second electrode 63 are etched using chemicals to create the copper foil electrode patterns, and it is preferable to use a polyimide material that is not affected by the chemicals used for the etching process. For the inorganic material, it is preferable to use glass with a thickness of 200 μm or less to provide flexibility. For example, a thickness that does not cause cracks or clouding even when the glass is bent and stretched 180° or more 100 times around a rod with a curvature of 1 mm or more is preferable. A conductive material is used for each of the first electrode 62 and the second electrode 63. The conductive material may be either a metal film or a transparent conductive film.
[0045] Next, the operation of the touch panel will be described with reference to FIG. As shown in FIG. 10, the touch-type input device 55 is composed of a touch panel 4 and a controller 71 that detects a touch position on the surface of a transparent substrate 61 by applying a drive pulse signal (not shown) to a first electrode 62 and a second electrode 63 of the touch panel 4. In this embodiment, a mutual capacitance method is adopted in which the touch position is detected by observing the magnitude of the charge / discharge current generated by changing the electrostatic capacitance of a capacitor formed at the intersection of the first electrode 62 and the second electrode 63. Specifically, the controller 71 is composed of a driving unit 72 connected to five first electrodes (driving electrodes) 62, a detection unit 73 connected to five second electrodes (sensor electrodes) 63, and a control unit 74 that controls the operation of the driving unit 72 and the detection unit 73. The driving unit 72 generates a driving pulse signal (not shown) of a predetermined frequency based on a control signal from the control unit 74, and selects the first electrodes 62 one by one and applies the generated driving pulse signal. The detection unit 73 selects the second electrodes 63 one by one based on a control signal from the control unit 74, and receives a charging / discharging current flowing through the second electrodes 63 according to the driving pulse signal applied to the first electrodes 62 as an output signal a. The detection unit 73 also detects a change in the electrostatic capacitance of each capacitor based on the output signal a, and outputs a detection signal b indicating the amount of change to the control unit 74. The control unit 74 then detects the touch position based on the detection signal b, and sends the position detection result to the LED light-emitting substrate 2 (LED panel).
[0046] As shown in FIG. 1, such a touch panel 4 is constructed by bonding a first substrate 65, which becomes the underside 50 of the touch panel 4, to the surface forming the space 51 of the LED light-emitting substrate 2 on which the RGB LED chip 3 is mounted, thereby realizing a touch panel-integrated LED panel 1. In the present invention, the first substrate 65, which is a part of the configuration of the touch panel 4, can be directly attached to the surface of the LED light-emitting substrate 2 that forms the space 51 without attaching a member such as the surface glass 135 of a liquid crystal panel with a touch panel or the surface glass 155 of an organic EL panel with a touch panel to the LED light-emitting substrate 2, which contributes to a thinner display and prevents a decrease in brightness because impurities such as dust and dirt do not adhere to the RGB LED chip 3. Also, by reducing the number of constituent members, transparency is improved accordingly, enabling a high-quality display.
[0047] FIG. 11 is a partial cross-sectional view of touch panel 4 (cross-sectional view taken along line AA in FIG. 8), but differs from that in FIG. 9 in that the electrode structure enables position detection by the OGS (One Glass Solution) method. In the touch panel 4, the first electrodes 82 and the second electrodes 83 are provided in an orthogonal state (in a grid pattern) while maintaining insulation (corresponding to the transparent conductive material 84). Since the first electrodes 82 and the second electrodes 83 are provided in an orthogonal state in this manner, a capacitor is formed at the intersections. Specifically, touch panel 4 has a second electrode 83 provided on the underside of a transparent substrate 81, an adhesive layer 84 made of a transparent adhesive formed on its surface, one side of adhesive layer 84 being smoothed and a first electrode 82 provided on its surface, transparent substrate 81 firmly bonded to second electrode 83 and first electrode 82 by adhesive layer 84, and a protective layer provided on the surface of first electrode 82 and adhesive layer 84.
[0048] Here, in order to make the touch panel 4 transparent and flexible, the transparent substrate 81 uses an organic insulating material such as polyimide (PI), polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP / OPP), polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polyethylene naphthalate (PEN), polyvinyl chloride resin (PVC), polystyrene (PS / OPS), acrylic (AC), polycarbonate (PC), triacetate (TAC), etc. The second electrode 83 formed on the lower surface of the transparent substrate 81 is etched using chemicals to create a copper foil electrode pattern, and it is preferable to use a polyimide material that is not affected by the chemicals used for the etching process. A conductive material is used for each of the first electrode 82 and the second electrode 83. The conductive material may be either a metal film or a transparent conductive film.
[0049] In this embodiment, the intersection of the first electrode 82 and the second electrode 83, where they are perpendicular to each other, forms a capacitor, and the touch position is detected by detecting the magnitude of the charging / discharging current that occurs each time the capacitance of each of the formed capacitors changes. As shown in FIG. 1, such a touch panel 4 is constructed by bonding a protective layer 85, which becomes the underside 50 of the touch panel 4, to the surface forming the space 51 of the LED light-emitting substrate 2 on which the RGB LED chip 3 is mounted, thereby realizing a touch panel-integrated LED panel 1.
[0050] The touch panel structure of FIG. 11 does not have the first substrate 65 or the second substrate 66 shown in FIG. 9, and therefore can achieve improved transparency and a thinner structure than the structure of FIG. Here, the touch panel structure shown in FIG. 9 and FIG. 11 has been described, but the present invention can be applied to any structure having a function for detecting a touch position.
[0051] FIG. 12 is a plan view of a touch panel integrated LED panel 1 in which the upper surface of the LED light emitting substrate 2 (LED panel) using the first LEDs 20 shown in FIG. 7 and the lower surface of the touch panel 4 shown in FIG. 8 are bonded together. FIG. 12 shows a case where the chip size of the first LED 20 described in FIG. 7 is sufficiently smaller than the distance between the chips of the first LED 20. As shown in FIG. 12, if the chip size of the first LED 20 is S and the distance between the chips of the first LED 20 is P, the greater the transparent length L obtained by subtracting the chip size S from the length P, the higher the transparency of the LED light-emitting substrate 2. That is, to sufficiently increase the transparency of the LED light-emitting substrate 2, if the electrode width of the width 91 of the first electrode and the width 92 of the second electrode is c, the transparency of the LED light-emitting substrate 2 can be sufficiently increased if the length L≧c. Here, if the first LED 20 is provided at a position overlapping the first electrode 62 and the second electrode 63, the light emitted by the first LED 20 is blocked by the electrodes of the first electrode 62 and the second electrode 63, and the brightness of the touch panel-integrated LED panel 1 is accordingly reduced. Therefore, it is preferable to provide the first LED 20 at a position not overlapping the first electrode 62 and the second electrode 63. That is, if the first electrode 62 and the second electrode 63 are not overlapped with the position of the first LED 20, the light emitted from the first LED 20 reaches the display surface 6 (FIG. 1) of the touch panel-integrated LED panel 1 without being blocked by the first electrode 62 and the second electrode 63. This allows display with the brightness of the first LED 20, which emits light with high brightness, maintained, enabling a high-brightness display and a high-quality display even outdoors where sunlight is shining.
[0052] FIG. 13 shows a case where the chip size S of the first LED 20 described in FIG. 12 is approximately the same as the transparent length L obtained by subtracting the chip size S of the first LED 20 from the chip-to-chip length P of the first LED 20. Even if the chip size S of the first LED 20 is approximately the same as the transparent length L obtained by subtracting the chip size S of the first LED 20 from the chip-to-chip length P of the first LED 20 as in this figure, if the first LED 20 is provided at a position where it does not overlap with the first electrode 62 and the second electrode 63, the light emitted from the first LED 20 reaches the display surface 6 (FIG. 1) of the touch panel integrated LED panel 1 without being blocked by the first electrode 62 and the second electrode 63. As a result, the first LED 20 can be displayed at a brightness that maintains the brightness of the first LED 20 that emits high brightness, and a high-quality display is possible even outdoors where sunlight is shining.
[0053] Fig. 14 shows an LED light emitting substrate 2 (LED panel) configured using second LEDs 100 in which the control unit 25 has been removed from the first LED 20 used in Fig. 7 and green, blue and red LED chips are packaged in a flat-mount type (SMD) or bullet-type package. Here, the electrode pattern for connecting the second LEDs 100 is omitted. Here, if the chip size of the second LED 100 is S and the length between the chips of the second LED 100 is P, and the length L is the length P minus the chip size S, an LED light-emitting substrate 2 is shown in which length L > chip size S.
[0054] 15 is a plan view of a touch panel integrated LED panel 1 in which the upper surface of an LED light emitting substrate 2 (LED panel) using the second LED 100 shown in FIG. 14 and the lower surface of the touch panel 4 shown in FIG. 8 are bonded together. Here, the greater the transparent length L obtained by subtracting the chip size S from the length P, the higher the transparency of the LED light-emitting substrate 2. In order to sufficiently increase the transparency of the LED light-emitting substrate 2, if the electrode width of the first electrode width 91 and the second electrode width 92 is c, and the length L≧c, the transparency of the LED light-emitting substrate 2 can be sufficiently increased. Here, if the second LED 100 is provided at a position overlapping the first electrode 62 and the second electrode 63, the light emitted by the second LED 100 is blocked by the first electrode 62 and the second electrode 63, and the brightness of the touch panel-integrated LED panel 1 is accordingly reduced. Therefore, it is preferable to provide the second LED 100 at a position not overlapping the first electrode 62 and the second electrode 63. That is, if the first electrode 62 and the second electrode 63 are not overlapped with the position of the second LED 100, the light emitted from the second LED 100 reaches the display surface 6 (FIG. 1) of the touch panel-integrated LED panel 1 without being blocked by the first electrode 62 and the second electrode 63. This allows display with the brightness of the second LED 100, which emits high brightness light, maintained, enabling a high-brightness display and a high-quality display even outdoors where sunlight is shining.
[0055] FIG. 16 shows a case where the chip size S of the second LED 100 described in FIG. 15 is approximately the same as the transparent length L obtained by subtracting the chip size S of the second LED 100 from the chip-to-chip length P of the second LED 100. Even if the chip size S of the second LED 100 is approximately the same as the transparent length L obtained by subtracting the chip size S of the second LED 100 from the chip-to-chip length P of the second LED 100 as in this figure, if the second LED 100 is provided at a position that does not overlap with the first electrode 62 and the second electrode 63, the light emitted from the second LED 100 reaches the display surface 6 (FIG. 1) of the touch panel integrated LED panel 1 without being blocked by the first electrode 62 and the second electrode 63. As a result, the second LED 100 can be displayed at a brightness that maintains the brightness of the second LED 100 that emits high brightness light, and a high-luminance display is possible, making it possible to display a high-quality image even outdoors where sunlight is shining.
[0056] FIG. 17 shows an LED panel in which TFT circuits 204 are formed on a base substrate 21 by a dry process or a wet process, with no LEDs mounted on it, and in which a total of 16 TFT circuits are formed, four in each of the horizontal and vertical directions.
[0057] FIG. 18 shows a green LED 201, a blue LED 202, and a red LED 203 mounted and electrically connected in the immediate vicinity of the TFT circuit 204. The LED electrically connected to the TFT circuit 204 in this way becomes the third LED, and a total of 16 third LEDs, four each in the horizontal and vertical directions, are arranged to form an LED panel. The green LED 201, the blue LED 202, and the red LED 203 are formed by, for example, directly mounting the LED bare chips on the light-emitting substrate 2 by a mass transfer method (a method of transferring non-defective products) from the bare chips on a semiconductor wafer using a laser, or by first setting the bare chips on the semiconductor wafer on a chip mount and mounting them on the LED light-emitting substrate 2 by a pick-and-press method to form an LED panel. Note that the drawings omit the electrode patterns connecting the LED terminals for controlling the emission of each LED to the terminals of the TFT circuit and the third LED 200. FIG. 18 shows an LED light-emitting substrate 2 in which L≧S, where S is the chip size of the third LED 200, P is the length between the chips of the third LED 200, and L is the transparent length obtained by subtracting the chip size S from P.
[0058] FIG. 19 is a plan view of a touch panel integrated LED panel 1 in which the upper surface of an LED light emitting substrate 2 (LED panel) using the third LED 200 shown in FIG. 18 and the lower surface of the touch panel 4 shown in FIG. Here, if the third LED 200 is provided at a position overlapping the first electrode 62 and the second electrode 63, the light emitted by the third LED 200 is blocked by the first electrode 62 and the second electrode 63, and the brightness of the touch panel-integrated LED panel 1 is accordingly reduced. Therefore, it is preferable to provide the third LED 200 at a position not overlapping the first electrode 62 and the second electrode 63. That is, if the first electrode 62 and the second electrode 63 are not overlapped with the position of the third LED 200, the light emitted from the third LED 200 reaches the display surface 6 (FIG. 1) of the touch panel-integrated LED panel 1 without being blocked by the first electrode 62 and the second electrode 63. This allows display with the brightness of the third LED 200, which emits high brightness light, maintained, enabling a high-brightness display and a high-quality display even outdoors where sunlight is shining.
[0059] 20 shows a case where the transparent length L obtained by subtracting the chip size S of the third LED 200 from the chip length P of the third LED 200 is approximately the same as the electrode width c, which is the width 91 of the first electrode and the width 92 of the second electrode. Even when the transparent length L obtained by subtracting S from P is approximately the same as c as shown in this figure, if the third LED 200 is provided at a position where it does not overlap with the first electrode 62 and the second electrode 63, the light emitted from the third LED 200 reaches the display surface 6 (FIG. 1) of the touch panel integrated LED panel 1 without being blocked by the first electrode 62 and the second electrode 63. This allows the display to be performed with the brightness of the third LED 200, which emits light with high brightness, maintained, making it possible to display with high brightness and to display with high quality even outdoors where sunlight is shining.
