Abstract
Description
[Technical field]
[0001] The present invention relates to an electrode sheet manufacturing apparatus and an electrode sheet manufacturing method for manufacturing an electrode sheet. [Background technology]
[0002] Conventionally, there is known an electrode sheet manufacturing apparatus for manufacturing an electrode sheet in which an active material layer is formed on a substrate, the electrode sheet having an active material layer non-forming portion at an end where no active material layer is formed. For example, Patent Document 1 discloses an electrode manufacturing apparatus for a battery (electrode sheet manufacturing apparatus) for an electrode sheet having a coated region where an electrode layer (active material layer) is coated on the surface of the substrate, and a non-coated region (active material layer non-forming portion) where the electrode layer is not coated, in which a curvature correction roller is brought into contact with the non-coated region of the electrode sheet to apply tension to correct the curvature of the non-coated region. [Prior art documents] [Patent documents]
[0003] [Patent Document 1] JP 2015-90805 A Summary of the Invention [Problem to be solved by the invention]
[0004] In the above-mentioned conventional electrode sheet manufacturing apparatus, there is a risk that curvature (distortion) of the electrode sheet cannot be sufficiently suppressed. For example, in the electrode sheet manufacturing apparatus disclosed in the above-mentioned Patent Document 1, the curvature of the electrode sheet is suppressed by applying tension to the non-active material layer-forming portion (non-coated region) of the electrode sheet by pressing with a curvature correction roller. However, the inventors of the present application found that in the above-mentioned conventional electrode sheet manufacturing apparatus, tension is not applied to the non-active material layer-forming portion in the width direction of the electrode sheet, and therefore curvature of the electrode sheet cannot be sufficiently suppressed.
[0005] The present invention was made by the inventor of the present application by focusing on the above-mentioned problem, and aims to provide an electrode sheet manufacturing apparatus and an electrode sheet manufacturing method that can effectively suppress curvature (distortion) of the electrode sheet. [Means for solving the problem]
[0006] In order to achieve the above object, an electrode sheet manufacturing apparatus according to one embodiment of the present invention is an electrode sheet manufacturing apparatus for manufacturing an electrode sheet in which an active material layer is formed on a substrate, the electrode sheet having an active material layer non-forming portion at an end in a first direction where the active material layer is not formed, the electrode sheet comprising: a moving unit that moves the electrode sheet in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction; and a first roll that is arranged on one side of the active material layer non-forming portion in a third direction intersecting the first and second directions and presses the active material layer non-forming portion toward the other side of the third direction, at least a portion of the first roll being arranged on the other side of the third direction relative to the active material layer non-forming portion at least one of immediately before being pressed by the first roll and immediately after being pressed by the first roll, and pressing the active material layer non-forming portion moving in the second direction by the moving unit while rotating about a first rotation axis extending in a direction inclined from the first direction.
[0007] According to this, in the electrode sheet manufacturing apparatus, at least a part of the first roll is disposed on the other side of the third direction from at least one of the active material layer non-forming parts immediately before and immediately after pressing, and presses the active material layer non-forming part while rotating around the first rotation axis inclined from the first direction. In this way, at least a part of the first roll is disposed on the other side of the third direction from at least one of the active material layer non-forming parts before and after pressing, so that the first roll presses the active material layer non-forming part from one side of the third direction. Therefore, tension acts so that the active material layer non-forming part is stretched in its moving direction (second direction), so that tension in the second direction is applied to the active material layer non-forming part. In addition, by pressing the active material layer non-forming part while rotating around the first rotation axis inclined from the first direction, the first roll pulls the active material layer non-forming part in a direction inclined from the first direction. Therefore, tension in a direction inclined from the first direction is applied to the active material layer non-forming part. This makes it possible to apply tension to the portion without the active material layer in two directions, the second direction and a direction inclined from the first direction, so that curvature (distortion) of the electrode sheet can be effectively suppressed.
[0008] Furthermore, a pair of second rolls may be provided, which are arranged on the other side of the active material layer non-forming portion in the third direction immediately before being pressed by the first roll and immediately after being pressed by the first roll, and support the active material layer non-forming portion in front of and behind the first roll.
[0009] According to this, the electrode sheet manufacturing apparatus includes a pair of second rolls that support the active material layer non-forming portion on the other side in the third direction of the active material layer non-forming portion before and after pressing by the first roll. In this way, by supporting the active material layer non-forming portion before and after the first roll with the pair of second rolls, the active material layer non-forming portion can be stably pressed by the first roll, and tension can be stably applied to the active material layer non-forming portion. This makes it possible to effectively suppress curvature of the electrode sheet.
[0010] The first roll may intermittently press the portion without the active material layer formed thereon.
[0011] When the first roll continuously presses the active material layer non-forming portion, if the active material layer non-forming portion is displaced, the pressing continues without correcting the displaced portion, which may cause wrinkles in the electrode sheet or cause the electrode sheet to break due to excessive tension. Therefore, by intermittently pressing the active material layer non-forming portion with the first roll, the displaced portion of the active material layer non-forming portion is corrected when the pressing of the active material layer non-forming portion is released. As a result, the active material layer non-forming portion can be pressed with the first roll and tension can be applied to the active material layer non-forming portion in a state in which the displaced portion of the active material layer non-forming portion is suppressed, so that the curvature of the electrode sheet can be effectively suppressed.
[0012] The first roll may be configured to move alternately to one side and the other side in the third direction to intermittently press the portion without the active material layer formed thereon.
[0013] According to this, by alternately moving the first roll to one side and the other side in the third direction, it is possible to easily realize a configuration in which the first roll intermittently presses the portion without the active material layer formed thereon.
[0014] Furthermore, the roller may be provided with a second rotating shaft arranged on one side of the first roll in the third direction, and a connecting member connecting the second rotating shaft and the first roll, and the first roll may be configured to rotate about the second rotating shaft to intermittently press the non-active material layer portion.
[0015] According to this, by rotating the first roll around the second rotating shaft via a connecting member that connects the second rotating shaft and the first roll, a configuration in which the first roll intermittently presses the non-forming portion of the active material layer can be easily realized.
[0016] An electrode sheet manufacturing method according to one aspect of the present invention is a method for manufacturing an electrode sheet in which an active material layer is formed on a substrate, the electrode sheet having an active material layer non-forming portion at an end in a first direction where the active material layer is not formed, the method including: a moving step of moving the electrode sheet in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction; and a pressing step of pressing the active material layer non-forming portion toward the other side of the third direction with a first roll arranged on one side of the active material layer non-forming portion in a third direction intersecting the first direction and the second direction, wherein in the pressing step, at least a part of the first roll is arranged on the other side of the third direction relative to the active material layer non-forming portion at least one of immediately before being pressed by the first roll and immediately after being pressed by the first roll, and the first roll presses the active material layer non-forming portion moving in the second direction in the moving step while rotating about a first rotation axis extending in a direction inclined from the first direction.
[0017] According to this, in the electrode sheet manufacturing method, at least a part of the first roll is disposed on the other side in the third direction of at least one of the active material layer non-forming portions immediately before and immediately after pressing, and the first roll presses the active material layer non-forming portions while rotating about a first rotation axis inclined from the first direction, thereby achieving the same effects as those achieved by the electrode sheet manufacturing apparatus described above. Effect of the Invention
[0018] According to the electrode sheet manufacturing apparatus and the like of the present invention, curvature (distortion) of the electrode sheet can be effectively suppressed. [Brief description of the drawings]

[0020] Hereinafter, an electrode sheet manufacturing apparatus and an electrode sheet manufacturing method according to an embodiment (including its modified examples) of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings. Note that the embodiments described below all show comprehensive or specific examples. The numerical values, shapes, materials, components, arrangement and connection forms of the components, manufacturing processes, and the order of the manufacturing processes shown in the following embodiments are merely examples and are not intended to limit the present invention. In each figure, dimensions, etc. are not strictly illustrated. In each figure, the same or similar components are given the same symbols.
[0021] In the following description and drawings, the arrangement direction of the active material layer and the portion without active material layer of the electrode sheet, or the short side direction of the electrode sheet, is defined as the X-axis direction. The direction intersecting the electrode sheet, the direction in which the first roll presses the portion without active material layer, or the direction in which the second roll supports the portion without active material layer, is defined as the Y-axis direction. The movement direction of the electrode sheet, the longitudinal direction of the electrode sheet, or the extension direction of the portion without active material layer is defined as the Z-axis direction. The X-axis direction, Y-axis direction, and Z-axis direction intersect each other (orthogonal in this embodiment).
[0022] In the following description, for example, the positive X-axis direction indicates the direction of the X-axis arrow, and the negative X-axis direction indicates the opposite direction to the positive X-axis direction. The same applies to the Y-axis and Z-axis directions. In the following, the X-axis direction may be referred to as the first direction, the Z-axis direction may be referred to as the second direction, the Y-axis direction may be referred to as the third direction, the negative Y-axis direction may be referred to as one side of the third direction, and the positive Y-axis direction may be referred to as the other side of the third direction. Furthermore, expressions indicating relative directions or attitudes, such as parallel and perpendicular, may also include cases where the directions or attitudes are not strictly the same. For example, two directions being perpendicular to each other not only mean that the two directions are completely perpendicular to each other, but also mean that the two directions are substantially perpendicular to each other, that is, include a difference of, for example, about several percent.
[0023] (Embodiment) [1 Description of the energy storage element 10, the electrode body 700, and the electrode sheet 710] First, an electrode sheet 710 manufactured by an electrode sheet manufacturing apparatus 1 (see FIG. 3) in the present embodiment, an electrode body 700 having the electrode sheet 710, and an energy storage element 10 having the electrode body 700 will be described with reference to FIG. 1 and FIG. 2. FIG. 1 is a perspective view showing the configuration of an energy storage element 10 having an electrode body 700 having an electrode sheet 710 according to the present embodiment. Specifically, FIG. 1 is an exploded perspective view showing each component by disassembling the energy storage element 10. FIG. 2 is a perspective view showing the configuration of an electrode body 700 having an electrode sheet 710 according to the present embodiment. Specifically, FIG. 2 shows a state in which part of the electrode sheets 710 and 720 of the electrode body 700 shown in FIG. 1 are developed. Note that in FIG. 2, for convenience of explanation, the separator of the electrode body 700 is omitted from the illustration.
[0024] The energy storage element 10 is a secondary battery (single cell) capable of charging and discharging electricity, specifically a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery such as a lithium ion secondary battery. The energy storage element 10 is used as a battery for driving or starting an engine of a moving body such as an automobile, a motorcycle, a watercraft, a ship, a snowmobile, an agricultural machine, a construction machine, or a railway vehicle for an electric railway. Examples of the automobile include an electric vehicle (EV), a hybrid electric vehicle (HEV), a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV), and a gasoline-powered vehicle. Examples of the railway vehicle for the electric railway include a train, a monorail, a linear motor car, and a hybrid train equipped with both a diesel engine and an electric motor. The energy storage element 10 can also be used as a stationary battery for home or business use.
[0025] The energy storage element 10 is not limited to a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery, and may be a secondary battery other than a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery. The energy storage element 10 may be a primary battery that can use stored electricity without the user having to charge it, instead of a secondary battery. The energy storage element 10 may be a battery using a solid electrolyte. The energy storage element 10 may be a pouch-type energy storage element. In this embodiment, the energy storage element 10 having a flat rectangular parallelepiped (angled) shape is illustrated, but the shape of the energy storage element 10 is not limited to a rectangular parallelepiped shape, and may be a cylindrical shape, an oval cylindrical shape, or a polygonal prism shape other than a rectangular parallelepiped, etc.
[0026] As shown in FIG. 1, the energy storage element 10 includes a container 100, a pair of electrode terminals 300 (positive and negative, the same applies below), a pair of upper gaskets 400, a pair of lower gaskets 500, a pair of current collectors 600, and an electrode body 700. An electrolyte (non-aqueous electrolyte) is enclosed inside the container 100, but is not shown. There is no particular limit to the type of electrolyte as long as it does not impair the performance of the energy storage element 10, and various electrolytes can be selected. In addition to the above components, a spacer disposed on the side or below the electrode body 700, an insulating film that wraps the electrode body 700, etc. may be disposed.
[0027] The container 100 is a rectangular parallelepiped (angular or box-shaped) case having a container body 110 with an opening and a lid body 120 that closes the opening of the container body 110. The container body 110 is a rectangular cylindrical member with a bottom that constitutes the main body of the container 100. The lid body 120 is a flat and rectangular plate-like member that constitutes the lid of the container 100. With this configuration, the container 100 has a structure in which the inside is sealed by joining the container body 110 and the lid body 120 by welding or the like after the electrode body 700 and the like are accommodated inside the container body 110. The materials of the container body 110 and the lid body 120 are not particularly limited, but are preferably weldable metals such as stainless steel, aluminum, aluminum alloy, iron, and plated steel sheet. The lid body 120 is formed with a gas exhaust valve 121 that releases pressure when the pressure inside the container 100 increases. The container 100 may be formed with a liquid injection portion for injecting an electrolyte into the container 100 when the energy storage element 10 is manufactured.
[0028] The electrode body 700 includes an electrode sheet 710 and an electrode sheet 720, and is an electricity storage element (power generation element) capable of storing electricity. As shown in FIG. 2, the electrode sheet 710 is an electrode plate in which an active material layer 712 is formed on a substrate 711, and the electrode sheet 720 is an electrode plate in which an active material layer 722 is formed on a substrate 721. In this embodiment, the electrode sheet 710 is a positive electrode plate, and the electrode sheet 720 is a negative electrode plate. That is, the substrate 711 is a substrate on the positive electrode side, and is a long strip-shaped current collector foil made of aluminum, an aluminum alloy, or the like. The substrate 721 is a substrate on the negative electrode side, and is a long strip-shaped current collector foil made of copper, a copper alloy, or the like.
[0029] The substrates 711 and 721 may have a sheet-like metal thin film at least on the surface thereof, and as the metal thin film, not only a metal foil but also, for example, a resin film coated with a metal can be used. Furthermore, the substrates 711 and 721 may be non-porous or porous. Depending on the type of the energy storage element 10, the substrates 711 and 721 may be made of so-called punched metal. The substrates 711 and 721 are preferably made of non-porous metal foil without perforations, and the substrate 711 may be made of, for example, an aluminum foil having a thickness of about 10 μm to 25 μm, and the substrate 721 may be made of, for example, a copper foil having a thickness of about 7 to 15 μm.
[0030] The active material layer 712 is a positive electrode active material layer formed on a substrate 711, and the active material layer 722 is a negative electrode active material layer formed on a substrate 721. As the positive electrode active material and the negative electrode active material used in the positive electrode active material layer and the negative electrode active material layer, any suitable known material can be used as long as it is an active material capable of absorbing and releasing lithium ions.
[0031] For example, the positive electrode active material may be a polyanion compound such as LiMPO4, LiMSiO4, or LiMBO3 (wherein M is one or more transition metal elements selected from Fe, Ni, Mn, Co, etc.), lithium titanate, LiMn2O4, or LiMn 1.5 Ni 0.5 Examples of the negative electrode active material that can be used include spinel-type lithium manganese oxides such as LiO4, and lithium transition metal oxides such as LiMO2 (wherein M is one or more transition metal elements selected from Fe, Ni, Mn, Co, etc.). Examples of the negative electrode active material include lithium metal, lithium alloys (lithium-silicon, lithium-aluminum, lithium-lead, lithium-tin, lithium-aluminum-tin, lithium-gallium, Wood's alloy, and other lithium metal-containing alloys), as well as alloys capable of absorbing and releasing lithium, carbon materials (e.g., graphite, non-graphitizable carbon, easily graphitizable carbon, low-temperature fired carbon, amorphous carbon, etc.), silicon oxides, metal oxides, and lithium metal oxides (Li4Ti5O 12etc.), polyphosphate compounds, or compounds of transition metals and elements of Groups 14 to 16, such as Co3O4 and Fe2P, which are generally called conversion negative electrodes.
[0032] In this embodiment, the electrode body 700 is formed by laminating an electrode sheet 710, an electrode sheet 720, and a separator (not shown). As the separator, any known material can be used as long as it does not impair the performance of the energy storage element 10. For example, a microporous sheet made of a resin such as a synthetic resin microporous film made of a polyolefin resin such as polyethylene, a woven fabric insoluble in an organic solvent, or a nonwoven fabric can be used. Specifically, the electrode body 700 is formed by disposing and winding a separator between the electrode sheet 710 and the electrode sheet 720. Note that, in this embodiment, an oval shape is illustrated as the cross-sectional shape of the electrode body 700, but it may be a circle, an ellipse, a polygon, or the like.
[0033] More specifically, the electrode body 700 is wound with the electrode sheets 710 and 720 offset from each other in the direction of the winding axis, with a separator interposed between them. The winding axis is a virtual axis that serves as the central axis when the electrode sheets 710 and 720 are wound, and in this embodiment, is a straight line that passes through the center of the electrode body 700 and is parallel to the X-axis direction. The electrode sheets 710 and 720 have portions at their ends in the offset direction where the active material is not formed (coated) and the base material layer is exposed.
[0034] That is, the electrode sheet 710 has an active material layer non-forming portion 711a where the active material layer 712 is not formed at an end portion in the X-axis direction (first direction) of the substrate 711. The electrode sheet 720 has an active material layer non-forming portion 721a where the active material layer 722 is not formed at an end portion in the X-axis direction (first direction) of the substrate 721. The active material layer non-forming portion 711a is an elongated portion formed at an end portion in the X-axis negative direction of the substrate 711 and extending along the edge of the substrate 711 in the X-axis negative direction (extending in the Z-axis direction in FIG. 2). The active material layer non-forming portion 721a is an elongated portion formed at an end portion in the X-axis positive direction of the substrate 721 and extending along the edge of the substrate 721 in the X-axis positive direction (extending in the Z-axis direction in FIG. 2).
[0035] The electrode terminals 300 are terminal members (positive electrode terminal and negative electrode terminal) electrically connected to the electrode body 700 via the current collector 600. In other words, the electrode terminals 300 are metal members for leading out electricity stored in the electrode body 700 to the external space of the energy storage element 10 and for introducing electricity into the internal space of the energy storage element 10 to store electricity in the electrode body 700. The electrode terminals 300 are formed of a conductive member such as a metal, such as aluminum, an aluminum alloy, copper, or a copper alloy. The electrode terminals 300 are connected (joined) to the current collector 600 by crimping, welding, or the like, and are attached to the lid 120.
[0036] The upper gasket 400 is a plate-like rectangular member (positive electrode upper gasket and negative electrode upper gasket) that is disposed between the lid 120 of the container 100 and the electrode terminal 300, and insulates and seals between the lid 120 and the electrode terminal 300. The lower gasket 500 is a plate-like rectangular member (positive electrode lower gasket and negative electrode lower gasket) that is disposed between the lid 120 of the container 100 and the current collector 600, and insulates between the lid 120 and the current collector 600. The upper gasket 400 and the lower gasket 500 may be formed of any material as long as they have insulating properties, and are formed of insulating materials such as polypropylene (PP), polyethylene (PE), and polystyrene (PS).
[0037] The current collectors 600 are disposed on both sides of the electrode body 700 in the X-axis direction, and are connected (joined) to the electrode body 700 and the electrode terminal 300. They are current collecting members (positive electrode current collector and negative electrode current collector) having conductivity and rigidity that electrically connect the electrode body 700 and the electrode terminal 300. The current collectors 600 are fixedly connected (joined) to the lid 120. Specifically, the positive electrode side current collector 600 is connected to an active material layer non-forming portion 711a of an electrode sheet 710 of the electrode body 700, and the negative electrode side current collector 600 is connected to an active material layer non-forming portion 721a of an electrode sheet 720 of the electrode body 700. The material of the current collector 600 is not particularly limited. For example, the current collector 600 on the positive electrode side is formed of aluminum or an aluminum alloy, similar to the base material 711 of the electrode body 700, and the current collector 600 on the negative electrode side is formed of copper or a copper alloy, similar to the base material 721 of the electrode body 700.
[0038] [2 Explanation of electrode sheet manufacturing equipment 1] Next, the configuration of the electrode sheet manufacturing apparatus 1 in this embodiment will be described with reference to Fig. 3 and Fig. 4. Fig. 3 is a schematic diagram showing the configuration of the electrode sheet manufacturing apparatus 1 according to this embodiment. Fig. 4 is a side view and a top view showing the configuration of the first roll 40 and the second roll 50 provided in the electrode sheet manufacturing apparatus 1 according to this embodiment. Specifically, Fig. 4(a) is a side view showing an enlarged view of the configuration of the first roll 40 and the second roll 50 shown in Fig. 3, and Fig. 4(b) is a top view showing the configuration when Fig. 4(a) is viewed from above (Y-axis negative direction).
[0039] The electrode sheet manufacturing apparatus 1 is an apparatus that manufactures an electrode sheet 710. The electrode sheet manufacturing apparatus 1 manufactures the electrode sheet 710 by rolling it. In other words, the electrode sheet manufacturing apparatus 1 manufactures an electrode sheet 710 in which an active material layer 712 is formed on a base material 711, the electrode sheet 710 having an active material layer non-forming portion 711a at an end in the X-axis direction (first direction) where the active material layer 712 is not formed. As shown in FIG. 3, the electrode sheet manufacturing apparatus 1 includes an unwinding section 20, an active material roll 30, a first roll 40, a second roll 50, and a winding section 60.
[0040] The unwinding section 20 is a device that unwinds a sheet-like metal foil that is the substrate 711 of the electrode sheet 710, and the winding section 60 is a device that winds up the electrode sheet 710 in which an active material layer 712 is formed on the substrate 711. Specifically, the substrate 711 wound in a roll is unwound from the unwinding section 20, and while a predetermined load is applied by a tension roller (not shown) or the like, the active material layer 712 is formed (applied) on the substrate 711 by an applicator (not shown) for the active material layer 712 onto the substrate 711. Then, the electrode sheet 710 on which the active material layer 712 has been formed travels toward the winding section 60, passes through the active material roll 30, the first roll 40, and the second roll 50, and is wound up by the winding section 60.
[0041] In this way, the unwinding unit 20, the winding unit 60, etc. move the electrode sheet 710 in the Z-axis direction while applying a tensile force in the Z-axis direction to the electrode sheet 710. The unwinding unit 20, the winding unit 60, etc. are an example of a moving unit that moves the electrode sheet 710 in the Z-axis direction (a second direction perpendicular to the first direction). The unwinding unit 20, the winding unit 60, etc. (moving unit) are only required to be able to move the electrode sheet 710, and the configuration thereof is not particularly limited, and any known device can be used as appropriate.
[0042] The active material roll 30 is a cylindrical roll that rolls the active material layer 712 formed on the substrate 711 of the electrode sheet 710. A pair of active material rolls 30 is disposed on both sides of the electrode sheet 710 in the Y-axis direction, and the electrode sheet 710 is sandwiched and compressed in the Y-axis direction by the pair of active material rolls 30, thereby rolling the active material layer 712. The active material roll 30 is not particularly limited in configuration as long as it is capable of rolling the active material layer 712, and a known device can be used as appropriate.
[0043] The first roll 40 and the second roll 50 are cylindrical rolls that press and stretch the active material layer non-forming portion 711a of the electrode sheet 710 in which the active material layer 712 is rolled. The first roll 40 and the second roll 50 rotate together to send out the electrode sheet 710 in the positive direction of the Z axis. The first roll 40 and the second roll 50 are not configured to sandwich and press the active material layer non-forming portion 711a, but the first roll 40 presses the active material layer non-forming portion 711a from one side, thereby generating tension in the active material layer non-forming portion 711a and stretching it. The pressure with which the first roll 40 presses the active material layer non-forming portion 711a is preferably 80% or less of the pressure at which the active material layer non-forming portion 711a breaks. The tension applied to the portion 711a where no active material layer is formed when the first roll 40 presses the portion 711a where no active material layer is formed is preferably 10N or more and 60N or less.
[0044] The first roll 40 and the second roll 50 may be cylindrical in shape with a smaller diameter than the active material roll 30, as long as they can press and stretch the active material layer non-forming portion 711a. In the present embodiment, the first roll 40 and the second roll 50 have the same diameter, but may have different diameters. The material of the first roll 40 and the second roll 50 is also not particularly limited, and a known material that can be used for a roll that presses the active material layer non-forming portion 711a can be appropriately selected. As the first roll 40, a stainless steel roll or a chrome-plated roll can be suitably used. More preferably, the first roll 40 is a roll with a surface coated with chloroprene or silicon (high frictional force that makes it easier to apply a force in the inclined direction of the first rotating shaft 41 described later). The configuration of the first roll 40 and the second roll 50 will be specifically described below.
[0045] As shown in FIG. 4, the first roll 40 is disposed in the negative Y-axis direction of the active material layer not-forming portion 711a (one side of a third direction intersecting the first direction and the second direction) and presses the active material layer not-forming portion 711a in the positive Y-axis direction (the other side of the third direction). The second roll 50 is disposed in the positive Y-axis direction of the active material layer not-forming portion 711a (the other side of the third direction) and supports the active material layer not-forming portion 711a. In this embodiment, a pair of second rolls 50 are disposed in the positive Y-axis direction of the active material layer not-forming portion 711a (the other side of the third direction) and in front of and behind the first roll 40 (both sides in the Z-axis direction) and support the active material layer not-forming portion 711a in front of and behind the first roll 40.
[0046] Specifically, at least a portion of the first roll 40 is disposed in the Y-axis positive direction (the other side in the third direction) of the active material layer non-forming portion 711a at least one of immediately before being pressed by the first roll 40 and immediately after being pressed by the first roll 40. Here, the active material layer non-forming portion 711a immediately before being pressed by the first roll 40, that is, the active material layer non-forming portion 711a located in the Z-axis negative direction of the first roll 40, is also referred to as the active material layer non-forming portion 711b. The active material layer non-forming portion 711a immediately after being pressed by the first roll 40, that is, the active material layer non-forming portion 711a located in the Z-axis positive direction of the first roll 40, is also referred to as the active material layer non-forming portion 711c.
[0047] According to this definition, it can be said that at least a portion (a part in the positive Y-axis direction) of the first roll 40 is disposed in the positive Y-axis direction further from at least one of the portion not forming an active material layer 711b and the portion not forming an active material layer 711c. In the present embodiment, the portion not forming an active material layer 711b and the portion not forming an active material layer 711c are disposed at the same position in the Y-axis direction. Therefore, at least a portion (a part in the positive Y-axis direction) of the first roll 40 is disposed in the positive Y-axis direction further from both the portion not forming an active material layer 711b and the portion not forming an active material layer 711c. Specifically, the first roll 40 is disposed such that the portion not forming an active material layer 711b and the portion not forming an active material layer 711c are disposed in the approximate center of the first roll 40 in the Y-axis direction.
[0048] The pair of second rolls 50 are disposed in the Y-axis positive direction (the other side in the third direction) of the active material layer non-forming portion 711a immediately before being pressed by the first roll 40 and immediately after being pressed by the first roll 40, and support the active material layer non-forming portion 711a in front of and behind the first roll 40. That is, the pair of second rolls 50 are disposed in the Y-axis positive direction of the active material layer non-forming portion 711b and the active material layer non-forming portion 711c, and support the active material layer non-forming portion 711a on both sides of the Z-axis direction of the first roll 40. Specifically, the edge of the pair of second rolls 50 in the Y-axis negative direction is disposed in the Y-axis negative direction from the edge of the first roll 40 in the Y-axis positive direction. In this embodiment, the edge of the pair of second rolls 50 in the Y-axis negative direction is disposed at an approximately central position in the Y-axis direction of the first roll 40 (in the Y-axis positive direction from the edge of the first roll 40 in the Y-axis negative direction).
[0049] The edge of the pair of second rolls 50 in the negative Y-axis direction may be disposed in the negative Y-axis direction from the edge of the first roll 40 in the negative Y-axis direction. That is, the entire first roll 40 may be disposed in the positive Y-axis direction from the active material layer non-forming portion 711b and the active material layer non-forming portion 711c. In addition, when the active material layer non-forming portion 711b and the active material layer non-forming portion 711c are disposed at different positions in the Y-axis direction, the edge of either one of the second rolls 50 in the negative Y-axis direction may be disposed in the negative Y-axis direction from the edge of the first roll 40 in the negative Y-axis direction, or may be disposed in the positive Y-axis direction from the edge of the first roll 40 in the positive Y-axis direction. That is, it is sufficient that at least a part of the first roll 40 is disposed in the positive Y-axis direction from the active material layer non-forming portion 711b or the active material layer non-forming portion 711c. This also allows the first roll 40 to press the active material layer non-forming portion 711a in the positive Y-axis direction.
[0050] Next, the first roll 40 and its surrounding configuration will be described in more detail. As shown in Fig. 4, the first roll 40 has a tapered surface 40a formed at the corner of the end in the positive direction of the X-axis. A first rotating shaft 41 is disposed at the center of the first roll 40, and an intermittent moving unit 42 that moves the first roll 40 is also disposed.
[0051] Tapered surface 40a is a tapered inclined surface (an inclined surface inclined with respect to the end face of first roll 40 on the active material layer 712 side) formed at a corner of the end portion on the active material layer 712 side of first roll 40, and is formed in an annular shape around the entire circumference of the corner portion of first roll 40. This makes it possible to prevent active material layer non-forming portion 711a from being scratched and its strength from being reduced when active material layer non-forming portion 711a is pressed by first roll 40. In the present embodiment, tapered surface 40a is a linear surface as viewed from, for example, the Y-axis direction, but may be a curved surface as viewed from, for example, the Y-axis direction.
[0052] The first rotating shaft 41 is a rod-shaped rotating shaft that rotates (spins) the first roll 40, and is disposed at an angle with respect to the X-axis direction. That is, the first roll 40, while rotating about the first rotating shaft 41 extending in a direction at an angle from the X-axis direction (first direction), presses the active material layer non-forming portion 711a that is moved in the Z-axis direction (second direction) by the unwinding section 20, the winding section 60, etc. (moving section). In this embodiment, since the active material layer non-forming portion 711a moves in the positive direction of the Z axis, the first roll 40 presses the active material layer non-forming portion 711a while rotating leftward (counterclockwise) about the first rotating shaft 41.
[0053] Specifically, first rotation shaft 41 is disposed so as to be inclined toward the upstream side of the traveling direction of active material layer non-forming portion 711a (negative Z-axis direction) the farther it is from active material layer 712 (the further it is toward the negative X-axis direction). For example, angle R on the acute angle side of first rotation shaft 41 with respect to the traveling direction of active material layer non-forming portion 711a (Z-axis direction) is preferably 80° or more and 89° or less, more preferably 85° or more and 89° or less, and even more preferably about 88°.
[0054] The intermittent moving unit 42 is a device that supports the first rotating shaft 41 so that the first rotating shaft 41 can rotate, and moves the first roll 40 in the Y-axis direction. Specifically, a pair of intermittent moving units 42 are disposed at positions sandwiching the first roll 40 in the extension direction of the first rotating shaft 41, and move the first roll 40 alternately in the Y-axis negative direction and the Y-axis positive direction. The intermittent moving unit 42 moves the first roll 40 alternately in the Y-axis negative direction and the Y-axis positive direction (one side and the other side of the third direction), thereby intermittently pressing the active material layer non-forming portion 711a. Note that the intermittent moving unit 42 may be any unit that can move the first roll 40 in the Y-axis direction, and the configuration thereof is not particularly limited.
[0055] Similarly to the first roll 40, the second roll 50 may have a tapered surface formed at the corners of its end portion, and may have an inclined rotation axis. When the rotation axis of the second roll 50 is inclined, the rotation axis of the second roll 50 is preferably inclined at the same angle as the first rotation axis 41 of the first roll 40, but may be inclined at a slightly different angle. In this embodiment, the active material layer non-forming portion 711a moves in the positive direction of the Z axis, and therefore the second roll 50 rotates rightward (clockwise) about the rotation axis.
[0056] [3. Explanation of electrode sheet manufacturing method] Next, the electrode sheet manufacturing method according to the present embodiment will be described with reference to Figs. 5 to 7. Fig. 5 is a flow chart showing each step in the electrode sheet manufacturing method according to the present embodiment. Figs. 6 and 7 are diagrams for explaining the pressing step in the electrode sheet manufacturing method according to the present embodiment. Specifically, Fig. 6 shows a step in which the first roll 40 intermittently presses the active material layer non-forming portion 711a in the pressing step. More specifically, Fig. 6(a) shows a state in which the first roll 40 presses the active material layer non-forming portion 711a, Fig. 6(b) shows a state in which the first roll 40 is separated from the active material layer non-forming portion 711a, and Fig. 6(c) shows a state in which the first roll 40 presses the active material layer non-forming portion 711a again. Fig. 7 shows a state in which the first roll 40 intermittently presses the active material layer non-forming portion 711a in the pressing step, resulting in pressing marks 713 being intermittently formed in the active material layer non-forming portion 711a.
[0057] The electrode sheet manufacturing method is a method for manufacturing an electrode sheet 710 in which an active material layer 712 is formed on a substrate 711, the electrode sheet 710 having an active material layer non-forming portion 711a at an end in the X-axis direction (first direction) where the active material layer 712 is not formed. The electrode sheet manufacturing method is a method for manufacturing an electrode sheet 710 including a rolling step of rolling the electrode sheet 710.
[0058] 5, first, in a moving step, electrode sheet 710 is moved in the Z-axis direction (second direction) (S102). Specifically, electrode sheet 710 is moved in the Z-axis direction by unwinding unit 20, winding unit 60, etc. (moving unit). At this time, active material-containing paste is applied to substrate 711 and dried to form active material layer 712. As a result, substrate 711 of electrode sheet 710 is formed with a portion where active material layer 712 is formed and a portion where active material layer 712 is not formed (active material layer non-formed portion 711a).
[0059] Next, in a rolling step, the active material layer 712 formed on the base material 711 of the electrode sheet 710 is rolled (S104). Specifically, the active material layer 712 is pressed between a pair of active material rolls 30 to roll the active material layer 712. At this time, the amount of elongation differs between the portion of the electrode sheet 710 where the active material layer 712 is formed and the portion 711a where the active material layer is not formed, and thus distortion occurs, which may cause the electrode sheet 710 to bend.
[0060] Next, in a pressing step, the active material layer non-forming portion 711a of the electrode sheet 710 on which the active material layer 712 has been rolled is pressed (S106). Specifically, the active material layer non-forming portion 711a is pressed in the Y-axis positive direction (the other side in the third direction) by the first roll 40 arranged in the Y-axis negative direction (one side in the third direction) of the active material layer non-forming portion 711a. At this time, a pair of second rolls 50 supports the active material layer non-forming portion 711a in the Y-axis positive direction of the active material layer non-forming portion 711a and in front and behind the first roll 40 (both sides in the Z-axis direction). Then, the first roll 40 and the second roll 50 rotate together, and the active material layer non-forming portion 711a is sent out in the Z-axis positive direction while being pressed.
[0061] More specifically, in the pressing step, at least a part of the first roll 40 is disposed in the Y-axis positive direction (the other side in the third direction) of the active material layer non-forming part 711a immediately before being pressed by the first roll 40 and immediately after being pressed by the first roll 40. At this time, a pair of second rolls 50 is disposed in the Y-axis positive direction (the other side in the third direction) of the active material layer non-forming part 711a immediately before being pressed by the first roll 40 and immediately after being pressed by the first roll 40, and the pair of second rolls 50 supports the active material layer non-forming part 711a in front of and behind the first roll 40. In this embodiment, a part of the first roll 40 in the Y-axis positive direction is disposed in the Y-axis positive direction of both the active material layer non-forming part 711b and the active material layer non-forming part 711c, and the pair of second rolls 50 is disposed in the Y-axis positive direction of the active material layer non-forming part 711b and the active material layer non-forming part 711c.
[0062] Then, while rotating about a first rotation axis 41 extending in a direction inclined from the X-axis direction (first direction), the first roll 40 presses the active material layer non-forming portion 711a moving in the Z-axis direction (second direction) in the moving step (S102). At this time, the intermittent moving portion 42 moves alternately in the negative Y-axis direction and the positive Y-axis direction, thereby moving the first roll 40 alternately in the negative Y-axis direction and the positive Y-axis direction.
[0063] Specifically, as shown in Fig. 6(a), the first roll 40 presses the portions 711a where no active material layer is formed, and then, as shown in Fig. 6(b), the intermittent movement unit 42 moves in the negative direction of the Y axis, thereby moving the first roll 40 in the negative direction of the Y axis. Then, as shown in Fig. 6(c), the intermittent movement unit 42 moves in the positive direction of the Y axis, thereby moving the first roll 40 in the positive direction of the Y axis, and the first roll 40 presses the portions 711a where no active material layer is formed again.
[0064] In this way, the first roll 40 is moved alternately in the negative Y-axis direction and the positive Y-axis direction (one side and the other side of the third direction) by the intermittent movement unit 42, so that the active material layer non-forming portion 711a is intermittently pressed. As a result, as shown in FIG. 7, a plurality of pressing marks 713 are formed intermittently in the active material layer non-forming portion 711a. The pressing marks 713 are portions formed on the surface of the active material layer non-forming portion 711a in the negative Y-axis direction, where the active material layer non-forming portion 711a extends, and are formed in an elongated shape in the Z-axis direction. That is, the active material layer non-forming portion 711a has a plurality of pressing marks 713 extending in the Z-axis direction arranged at intervals in the Z-axis direction. In this embodiment, the pressing marks 713 are formed at the end of the active material layer non-forming portion 711a in the positive X-axis direction, at an interval from the active material layer 712.
[0065] It is preferable that the pressing step (S106) is performed consecutively with the rolling step (S104). However, if it is desired to interrupt the operation until the rolling step (S104), a step of winding up the electrode sheet 710 may be performed between the rolling step (S104) and the pressing step (S106). In this case, since the rolling step (S104) and the pressing step (S106) can be performed as separate steps, for example, the moving speed of the electrode sheet 710 can be made different between the rolling step (S104) and the pressing step (S106). In addition, if the electrode sheet 710 in which the active material layer 712 is formed on the substrate 711 and rolled is prepared in advance, the rolling step (S104) may be omitted and the pressing step (S106) may be performed. The pressing step (S106) may be performed before the rolling step (S104).
[0066] Next, in a winding step, the electrode sheet 710 with the active material layer non-forming portion 711a pressed is wound up (S108). Specifically, the electrode sheet 710 is wound up by the winding unit 60. The wound electrode sheet 710 is then wound up together with the electrode sheet 720 and the separator by a winding device or the like to form the electrode body 700. Note that the electrode sheet 710 may be cut to a size and shape suitable for forming the electrode body 700 before being wound.
[0067] [4. Description of Effects] As described above, according to the electrode sheet manufacturing apparatus 1 according to the embodiment of the present invention, at least a part of the first roll 40 is disposed on the other side of the third direction (positive Y-axis direction) of at least one of the active material layer non-forming parts 711a immediately before and immediately after pressing. The first roll 40 presses the active material layer non-forming parts 711a while rotating about the first rotation axis 41 inclined from the first direction (X-axis direction). In this way, at least a part of the first roll 40 is disposed on the other side of the third direction of at least one of the active material layer non-forming parts 711a before and after pressing, so that the first roll 40 presses the active material layer non-forming parts 711a from one side of the third direction (negative Y-axis direction). For this reason, tension acts so that the active material layer non-forming parts 711a are stretched in the moving direction (second direction (Z-axis direction)), and tension in the second direction is applied to the active material layer non-forming parts 711a. Moreover, the first roll 40 presses the portion without active material layer 711a while rotating about the first rotation axis 41 tilted from the first direction, so that the first roll 40 pulls the portion without active material layer 711a in the direction tilted from the first direction. As a result, tension is applied to the portion without active material layer 711a in the direction tilted from the first direction. As a result, tension can be applied to the portion without active material layer 711a in two directions, the second direction and the direction tilted from the first direction, so that the portion without active material layer 711a can be stretched in these two directions, and curvature of the electrode sheet 710 can be effectively suppressed.
[0068] That is, in the rolling step using the active material roll 30, the portion of the active material layer 712 in the electrode sheet 710 is stretched, but by also stretching the portion without the active material layer 711a in the pressing step, the difference in the amount of stretch between the two can be reduced, effectively suppressing curvature of the electrode sheet 710. Note that it is not necessary for both sides of the portion without the active material layer 711a to be stretched; as long as only one side is stretched, curvature of the electrode sheet 710 can be effectively suppressed.
[0069] Furthermore, by using the first roll 40 to pull the portion without the active material layer 711a in a direction inclined from the first direction, the friction between the first roll 40 and the portion without the active material layer 711a can be made lower than when the portion without the active material layer 711a is pulled in the first direction. This makes it possible to prevent the first roll 40 from being worn down and damaged, or the portion without the active material layer 711a from being worn down and causing contamination (metal powder, etc.) or damage to the portion without the active material layer 711a.
[0070] The electrode sheet manufacturing apparatus 1 includes a pair of second rolls 50 supporting the active material layer not formed portion 711a on the other side in the third direction of the active material layer not formed portion 711a before and after pressing by the first roll 40. In this way, by supporting the active material layer not formed portion 711a on the front and rear of the first roll 40 with the pair of second rolls 50, the active material layer not formed portion 711a can be stably pressed by the first roll 40, and tension can be stably applied to the active material layer not formed portion 711a. This makes it possible to effectively suppress curvature of the electrode sheet 710.
[0071] When the first roll 40 continuously presses the active material layer non-forming portion 711a, if the active material layer non-forming portion 711a is displaced, the pressing continues without correcting the displaced position, which may cause wrinkles in the electrode sheet 710 or cause the electrode sheet 710 to break due to excessive tension. For this reason, the active material layer non-forming portion 711a is intermittently pressed by the first roll 40, and the displaced position of the active material layer non-forming portion 711a is corrected when the pressure on the active material layer non-forming portion 711a is released. As a result, the active material layer non-forming portion 711a is pressed by the first roll 40 with the displaced position of the active material layer non-forming portion 711a suppressed, and tension can be applied to the active material layer non-forming portion 711a, so that the curvature of the electrode sheet 710 can be effectively suppressed. Furthermore, when the first roll 40 continuously presses the portions 711a without the active material layer formed thereon, stress is applied to the portions 711a without the active material layer formed thereon, reducing the strength of the boundary between the portions of the electrode sheet 710 pressed and not pressed by the first roll 40. For this reason, by intermittently pressing the portions 711a without the active material layer formed thereon with the first roll 40, it is possible to prevent the strength of the electrode sheet 710 from decreasing.
[0072] By moving first roll 40 alternately to one side and the other side in the third direction, it is possible to easily realize a configuration in which first roll 40 intermittently presses active material layer non-forming portion 711a.
[0073] According to the electrode sheet manufacturing method of the embodiment of the present invention, at least a part of the first roll 40 is disposed on the other side in the third direction of at least one of the active material layer non-forming parts 711a immediately before and immediately after pressing, and the first roll 40 presses the active material layer non-forming parts 711a while rotating about the first rotation axis 41 inclined from the first direction. This can provide the same effects as those provided by the electrode sheet manufacturing apparatus 1 described above.
[0074] [5. Explanation of Variations] Next, a modified example of the above embodiment will be described. Fig. 8 is a side view showing the configuration of the first roll 40 and its surroundings according to a modified example of the present embodiment. Specifically, Fig. 8 is a view corresponding to (a) of Fig. 4.
[0075] 8, in this modification, a second rotating shaft 43 and a connecting member 44 are disposed around a first roll 40. The other configurations of this modification are similar to those of the above embodiment, and therefore detailed description thereof will be omitted.
[0076] The second rotating shaft 43 is a rod-shaped rotating shaft that rotates (revolves) the first roll 40, and is disposed in the negative Y-axis direction (one side in the third direction) from the first roll 40 (first roll 40b) that presses the active material layer non-forming portion 711a. The connecting member 44 is a member that connects the second rotating shaft 43 and the first roll 40. The connecting member 44 is fixed to the second rotating shaft 43 so as to be rotatable together with the second rotating shaft 43, and is connected to the first rotating shaft 41 so that the first rotating shaft 41 can rotate relative to the connecting member 44. In this modification, a plurality of first rolls 40 (specifically, four first rolls 40b to 40e) are disposed around the second rotating shaft 43 (both sides in the Y-axis direction and both sides in the Z-axis direction), and the plurality of first rolls 40 are connected to the second rotating shaft 43 by the connecting member 44.
[0077] With this configuration, first roll 40 intermittently presses portions 711a where no active material layer is formed by rotating about second rotation shaft 43. In the present embodiment, portions 711a where no active material layer is formed move in the positive direction of the Z axis, and therefore the multiple first rolls 40 (first rolls 40b to 40e) rotate left (counterclockwise) about second rotation shaft 43 while intermittently pressing portions 711a where no active material layer is formed.
[0078] For example, the first roll 40b is disposed at a position where it can press the active material layer not-formed portion 711a by rotating (revolving) about the second rotation shaft 43. Then, the first roll 40b presses the active material layer not-formed portion 711a by rotating (rotating) about the first rotation shaft 41. Next, the first roll 40c is disposed at a position where it can press the active material layer not-formed portion 711a by rotating (revolving) about the second rotation shaft 43. Then, the first roll 40c presses the active material layer not-formed portion 711a by rotating (rotating) about the first rotation shaft 41. In this way, the multiple first rolls 40 intermittently press the active material layer not-formed portion 711a.
[0079] As described above, the electrode sheet manufacturing apparatus according to this modified example can achieve the same effects as those of the above-described embodiment. In particular, in this modified example, the first roll 40 rotates about the second rotating shaft 43 via the connecting member 44 that connects the second rotating shaft 43 and the first roll 40, so that the first roll 40 can easily press the active material layer non-forming portion 711a intermittently. Note that, in this modified example, the number of first rolls 40 is not particularly limited. For example, a configuration in which only one first roll 40 is arranged and the single first roll 40 rotates (revolves) about the second rotating shaft 43 may also be used.
[0080] (Other variations) The electrode sheet manufacturing apparatus and the electrode sheet manufacturing method according to the embodiment of the present invention (including its modified examples, the same applies below) have been described above, but the present invention is not limited to this embodiment. The embodiment disclosed here is illustrative in all respects, and the scope of the present invention includes all modifications within the meaning and scope equivalent to the claims.
[0081] For example, in the above embodiment, the electrode sheet manufacturing apparatus manufactures the electrode sheet 710 on the positive electrode side, but the electrode sheet 720 on the negative electrode side may also be manufactured. However, the electrode sheet 710 in which the base material 711 (active material layer non-forming portion 711a) is made of aluminum or an aluminum alloy, etc., is more likely to be plastically deformed and effectively stretched when pressed by the first roll 40 than the electrode sheet 720 in which the base material 721 (active material layer non-forming portion 721a) is made of copper or a copper alloy, etc. For this reason, the electrode sheet 710 is preferable for manufacturing by the electrode sheet manufacturing apparatus because it can more effectively suppress curvature than the electrode sheet 720. Note that, if the base material 721 (active material layer non-forming portion 721a) of the electrode sheet 720 is made of a material that is effectively stretched by plastic deformation when pressed by the first roll 40, the electrode sheet 720 may be manufactured by the electrode sheet manufacturing apparatus.
[0082] In the above embodiment, the electrode sheet manufacturing apparatus is provided with a pair of second rolls 50 supporting the active material layer non-forming portions 711a in front of and behind the first roll 40. However, the electrode sheet manufacturing apparatus may be provided with only one second roll 50 in front of or behind the first roll 40, or may not be provided with a second roll 50 in front of or behind the first roll 40, and the electrode sheet 710 may be supported by tension applied to the electrode sheet 710.
[0083] In the above embodiment, the first roll 40 presses the active material layer not-formed portion 711a intermittently. However, the first roll 40 may press the active material layer not-formed portion 711a continuously.
[0084] In the above embodiment, the electrode body 700 is a so-called vertically wound electrode body whose winding axis is parallel to the lid body 120. However, the electrode body 700 may be a so-called horizontally wound electrode body whose winding axis is perpendicular to the lid body 120. The shape of the electrode body 700 is not limited to a wound type, and may be a stack type in which flat electrode plates are stacked, or a shape in which electrode plates are folded in an accordion-like shape. In addition, a tab may be formed on the electrode sheet 710 after the electrode sheet 710 is manufactured by an electrode sheet manufacturing apparatus.
[0085] Any combination of the components included in the above-described embodiment and its modified examples is also included within the scope of the present invention. [Industrial Applicability]
