Abstract
Description
[Technical field]
[0001] The present invention relates to a vinyl-modified epoxy resin composition and an aqueous coating agent. [Background technology]
[0002] Conventionally, coating films obtained using water-based coating agents have inferior rust-preventive properties compared to solvent-based coating agents, but vinyl-modified epoxy esters obtained by polymerizing vinyl monomers in the presence of fatty acid-modified epoxy esters have been publicly known as coatings with improved rust-preventive properties (Patent Document 1). The vinyl-modified epoxy esters use epoxy resins as raw materials, and therefore have relatively good rust-preventive properties, can be expected to cure at room temperature due to the fatty acid component, and can be made water-based by selecting the vinyl monomer component.
[0003] However, as the application fields of the aqueous coating agent expand, the performance requirements for the aqueous coating agent also increase, and there is a demand for improved rust prevention and water resistance, as well as high initial hardness of the coating film, which the vinyl-modified epoxy ester and the like cannot satisfy. For example, the hardness of the coating film increases with the oxidative polymerization of the fatty acid component in the resin, but it takes a long time to dry, and even if a coating film is obtained, it takes several days for the hardness to reach the target value, so scratches at the initial stage of coating film formation are likely to be a problem, and the phenomenon that the coating film prepared from the resin whitens when immersed in water (hereinafter referred to as water-resistant whitening) has also been a problem. Such water-resistant whitening can be improved by increasing the ratio of the fatty acid component in the vinyl-modified epoxy ester, but there is a problem that the hardness of the coating film is further reduced.
[0004] Therefore, the present applicant proposed an aqueous vinyl-modified epoxy resin comprising an aromatic epoxy resin and an aliphatic epoxy resin in combination, as a vinyl-modified epoxy resin composition that can be dried in a short time (has excellent drying properties), gives a coating film with high hardness, and is not easily whitened by water (Patent Document 2). However, this aqueous vinyl-modified epoxy resin is difficult to disperse in water when preparing an aqueous coating agent, and further has poor drying properties. [0056] The number of hydroxyl groups in component (a2) can be calculated by multiplying the molar amount of component (a2) charged by the number of hydroxyl groups per molecule of component (a2). When component (a2) contains multiple components, the number of hydroxyl groups in component (a2) is the sum of the numbers of hydroxyl groups in each component.

[0074] The amount of component (b3) used is preferably 40 parts by weight or less, and more preferably 20 parts by weight or less, per 100 parts by weight of component (A), from the viewpoint of good dispersion of the vinyl-modified epoxy resin composition in water when preparing an aqueous coating agent.
[0075] The polymerization method of the (A) component and the (B) component is not limited, but a solution polymerization method is preferred. The conditions are not particularly limited, and for example, in the presence of a polymerization initiator, the temperature is about 60 to 150°C, preferably about 70 to 140°C, and the time is about 1 to 8 hours, preferably about 2 to 6 hours. A solvent may also be used in the system.

The amount of the solvent used is not particularly limited, and may be adjusted so that the reaction concentration is about 30 to 90% by weight. The polymer obtained by the above production method may contain a solvent, but it is preferable to remove the solvent by distillation under reduced pressure or the like, so that the content is less than 20% by weight.
[0079] The vinyl-modified epoxy resin composition obtained by the above-mentioned production method may be neutralized with an acid or a base.
[0080] Examples of the acid include inorganic acids such as hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, etc., and organic acids such as formic acid, acetic acid, citric acid, malic acid, tartrate, aspartic acid, etc. Examples of the base include ammonia, amines such as methylamine, ethylamine, dimethylamine, diethylamine, trimethylamine, triethylamine, N,N-dimethylethanolamine, etc., and hydroxides of alkali metals such as potassium hydroxide, sodium hydroxide, etc., which may be used alone or in combination of two or more kinds.
[0081] When used as an aqueous coating agent, the vinyl-modified epoxy resin composition of the present invention is dissolved or dispersed by adding water, and in order to facilitate dissolution or dispersion in water, it is preferable that the resin composition is neutralized with a base (i.e., the vinyl-modified epoxy resin composition is neutralized with a base). The pH after neutralization is preferably about 7 to 10. In addition, as such a base, ammonia and amines are preferable, and ammonia is more preferable, because they are easily volatilized during drying.
[0082] The physical properties of the vinyl-modified epoxy resin composition of the present invention are not particularly limited, but for example, from the viewpoint of excellent hardness of the coating film, the weight average molecular weight (polystyrene equivalent value by gel permeation chromatography) is preferably about 10,000 to 250,000, more preferably about 20,000 to 200,000. The non-volatile content is not particularly limited and may be appropriately determined in consideration of the viscosity, but is usually about 30 to 45% by weight.
[0083] The viscosity at a non-volatile content of 35% by weight and a temperature of 23° C. is usually about 800 to 4000 mPa·s, and preferably about 1000 to 3000 mPa·s.
[0084] The aqueous coating agent of the present invention contains the vinyl-modified epoxy resin composition. The aqueous coating agent of the present invention can be applied to paints, surface treatment agents, etc. for various raw materials such as wood, paper, fiber, plastics, ceramics, iron, and non-ferrous metals.
[0085] In preparing the aqueous coating agent of the present invention, color pigments such as carbon black and titanium oxide; extender pigments such as talc, calcium carbonate, and barium sulfate; rust-preventive pigments such as aluminum phosphomolybdate, zinc phosphate, and zinc oxide; metal compounds such as cobalt compounds, nickel compounds, and zirconium compounds; silane coupling agents, colloidal silica, and the like can be appropriately blended. In addition, hardeners such as melamine resins, urea resins, isocyanates, blocked isocyanates, and carbodiimides, and additives such as various known solvents, colorants, plasticizers, and rust inhibitors may be blended as necessary. The non-volatile content of the aqueous coating agent is not particularly limited, but is preferably about 5 to 80% by weight, and more preferably about 10 to 60% by weight.
[0086] The physical properties of the aqueous coating agent of the present invention are not particularly limited, and for example, the nonvolatile content is 20 to 60% by weight, and the viscosity at a temperature of 23° C. is usually about 10 to 500 mPa·s, preferably about 50 to 300 mPa·s.
