Description

[Technical field]

[0001] The present invention relates to a light emitting device for use in a vehicle. [Background technology]

[0002] Conventionally, there is known an in-vehicle light emitting device that emits light toward the interior of a vehicle cabin (for example, Patent Document 1). The in-vehicle light emitting device described in Patent Document 1 is configured to emit light from a boundary portion between an upper panel and a lower panel of an instrument panel, which is a vehicle interior part. The upper panel has an inclined surface at a lower portion thereof that slopes diagonally downward toward the interior of the vehicle cabin. The lower panel has an inclined surface at an upper portion thereof that slopes diagonally upward toward the interior of the vehicle cabin. A surface side space is formed on the interior side of the vehicle cabin between the lower portion of the upper panel and the upper portion of the lower panel, and divides the instrument panel into upper and lower portions. The surface side space is a recessed groove space that extends in a columnar shape in the vehicle width direction, and is connected to the interior space of the vehicle cabin.

[0003] The above-mentioned in-vehicle light emitting device includes a light emitting section which is a light guide extending in the vehicle width direction, and a light source which is arranged to the side of the vehicle width direction end face of the light emitting section. The light emitting section emits light which enters the inside of the light emitting section from the light source from its surface. A groove is formed in the lower part of the upper panel of the instrument panel near the boundary with the lower panel. The light emitting section is arranged in the groove of the upper panel, and emits light from the lower part of the upper panel towards the upper surface of the lower panel. The light irradiated onto the upper surface of the lower panel is reflected by the upper surface of the panel and emitted into the vehicle interior. [Prior art documents] [Patent documents]

[0004] [Patent Document 1] JP 2009-184668 A Summary of the Invention [Problem to be solved by the invention]

[0005] However, if light emitted from a light-emitting unit arranged on the upper panel of the instrument panel is reflected by the surface of the lower panel and emitted into the vehicle interior, the light must first travel downward and then diagonally upward, necessitating a structure that can reflect the light from the light-emitting unit to a large extent. This places great restrictions on determining the structure and position of the light-emitting unit, the light-emitting direction, the inclination angle of the lower panel, etc.

[0006] The present invention has been made in consideration of these points, and has an object to provide an in-vehicle light-emitting device that is capable of emitting light from a light-emitting portion into the interior of the vehicle without significantly bending the light. [Means for solving the problem]

[0007] One aspect of the present invention is an in-vehicle light-emitting device that emits light on the surface of a vehicle interior part having an upper panel and a lower panel arranged below the upper panel, wherein the upper panel has a first inclined surface facing diagonally downward on the interior surface of the vehicle interior of the lower panel, and the lower panel has a second inclined surface facing diagonally upward on the interior surface of the upper panel, the vehicle interior part having a surface side space formed on the interior side of the vehicle interior between the lower panel lower part of the upper panel and the upper panel upper part of the lower panel, and a slit formed between the exterior side end of the lower panel part of the upper panel and the exterior side end of the upper panel part of the lower panel or formed through the upper panel part of the lower panel, and the vehicle interior part is equipped with a light-emitting unit that is arranged outside the vehicle interior relative to at least one of the exterior side end of the lower panel part of the upper panel and the exterior side end of the upper panel part of the lower panel, and that emits light that is emitted diagonally upward inside the vehicle interior through the slit.

[0008] According to this configuration, the light emitted by the light-emitting unit travels diagonally upward from the outside of the vehicle compartment to the inside of the vehicle compartment toward the slit and is emitted into the vehicle compartment through the slit. Therefore, in order to emit the light emitted by the light-emitting unit from near the boundary between the upper panel and the lower panel of the vehicle interior part into the vehicle compartment, it is not necessary to reflect the light emitted by the light-emitting unit on the surfaces of the upper panel or the lower panel, and it is not necessary to significantly bend the light from the light-emitting unit before it reaches the vehicle compartment. Therefore, the light from the light-emitting unit can be emitted into the vehicle compartment without being significantly bent. [Brief description of the drawings]

[0010] Hereinafter, specific embodiments of the in-vehicle light emitting device according to the present invention will be described.

[0011] 1. Configuration of the in-vehicle light-emitting device The in-vehicle light emitting device 1 according to one embodiment is a device that is mounted on a vehicle and emits light toward the interior of the vehicle. The in-vehicle light emitting device 1 emits light mainly for the purpose of visually alerting the vehicle driver. As shown in FIG. 1, the in-vehicle light emitting device 1 emits light on the surface of an instrument panel 10 provided in front of the vehicle near the driver's seat or passenger seat.

[0012] The instrument panel 10 is an interior part of a vehicle in which vehicle instruments, air conditioner vents, etc. are provided. The instrument panel 10 extends in the vehicle width direction and is formed in a straight line from one end in the vehicle width direction to the other end in the vehicle width direction or in a curved line curved in the vehicle front-rear direction. The instrument panel 10 is formed to be divided into upper and lower sections. The instrument panel 10 may be provided separately for the driver's seat side and the passenger's seat side, and each may have its own shape. In this case, each instrument panel 10 is divided into upper and lower sections.

[0013] The instrument panel 10 has an upper panel 20 and a lower panel 30. The upper panel 20 constitutes an upper portion of the instrument panel 10. The lower panel 30 constitutes a lower portion of the instrument panel 10. The lower panel 30 is disposed below the upper panel 20. The in-vehicle light emitting device 1 is configured to emit light from the boundary between the upper panel 20 and the lower panel 30.

[0014] The instrument panel 10 has a surface side space 11 that divides the instrument panel 10 into upper and lower sections. The surface side space 11 is formed on the inside of the vehicle compartment (i.e., the rear side of the vehicle) at the boundary between the upper panel 20 and the lower panel 30, i.e., between the panel lower section 20L of the upper panel 20 and the panel upper section 30H of the lower panel 30. The surface side space 11 extends in a columnar shape in the vehicle width direction and is integrated with the space inside the vehicle compartment.

[0015] The upper panel 20 has a first inclined surface 21. The first inclined surface 21 is provided on the interior surface of the panel lower part 20L of the upper panel 20. The first inclined surface 21 faces diagonally downward on the interior surface of the panel lower part 20L. The panel lower part 20L, including the first inclined surface 21, is formed to be inclined in a flat plane or curved convexly downward when viewed from the side of the vehicle. The exterior end of the panel lower part 20L may be formed to be inclined downward from the interior to the exterior of the cabin or may be formed to be approximately horizontal.

[0016] The lower panel 30 has a second inclined surface 31. The second inclined surface 31 is provided on the interior surface of the panel upper part 30H of the lower panel 30. The second inclined surface 31 faces obliquely upward on the interior surface of the panel upper part 30H. The panel upper part 30H, including the second inclined surface 31, is formed to be inclined in a flat plane or to be curved upwardly convex when viewed from the side of the vehicle. The exterior end of the panel upper part 30H may be formed to be inclined upward from the interior to the exterior of the cabin or may be formed to be approximately horizontal.

[0017] The instrument panel 10 has a slit 12. The slit 12 is a hole opened near the boundary between the upper panel 20 and the lower panel 30. The slit 12 is formed between an outer end Le of a lower panel 20L of the upper panel 20 and an outer end He of an upper panel 30H of the lower panel 30. As shown in Figs. 1 and 4, the outer end Le of the lower panel 20L of the upper panel 20 is located outside the passenger compartment (i.e., toward the front of the vehicle) compared to the outer end He of the upper panel 30H of the lower panel 30, and is located at the same height as the outer end He of the lower panel 30 or higher than the outer end He of the lower panel 30.

[0018] The slit 12 is provided at the innermost part of the front space 11 (i.e., the outer end of the vehicle compartment). The slit 12 faces upward from the rear side to the front side of the instrument panel 10 (i.e., the front space 11) or obliquely upward inside the vehicle compartment. The slit 12 extends in a strip shape in the vehicle width direction. The slit 12 has a width of, for example, 2 mm to 3 mm. The slit 12 is provided at a position that is directly visible when viewed from inside the vehicle compartment (specifically, when viewed at eye height within the expected range by the vehicle driver).

[0019] The in-vehicle light emitting device 1 includes a light emitting portion 40, a light source 50, an outer lens 60, and a retainer 70, as shown in FIGS.

[0020] The light emitting section 40 is a section that emits light. The light emitting section 40 is a light guide extending in a rod shape in the vehicle width direction. The light emitting section 40 reflects light from the light source 50 and emits light. Hereinafter, the light emitting section 40 is referred to as the light guide 40. The light guide 40 is formed to have a substantially circular cross section. The light guide 40 may be curved in the vehicle longitudinal direction between its ends in the vehicle width direction (i.e., the extension direction of the light guide 40) to match the surface shape of the instrument panel 10.

[0021] The light guide 40 has a light entrance surface 41 through which light from the light source 50 enters, and a light exit surface 42 through which the light that entered the light entrance surface 41 exits. The light entrance surface 41 is formed on an end surface in the extension direction of the light guide 40. The light exit surface 42 is formed on the peripheral surface of the light guide 40. The light exit surface 42 may be limited to a part of the peripheral surface of the light guide 40. The light from the light source 50 enters the light entrance surface 41 of the light guide 40, and the light that entered travels along the extension direction of the light guide 40 while being reflected toward the light exit surface 42 and emitted from the light exit surface 42.

[0022] The light source 50 is a light emitter such as an LED that emits visible light. The light source 50 is housed in a case. The light source 50 may be capable of outputting light of various colors, for example. The light sources 50 are connected to both ends of the light guide 40 in the extension direction. Each light source 50 is electrically connected to a control device (not shown) and the light emission is controlled by the control device. The light guide 40 has light entering the light input surfaces 41 at both ends in the extension direction from the light source 50, and reflects the entering light toward the light output surface 42. The light entering the light guide 40 from the light source 50 is emitted approximately uniformly from the light output surface 42 of the light guide 40 along the extension direction of the light guide 40.

[0023] As shown in Fig. 5, the light guide 40 has a prism 43. The prism 43 is a mirror body for reflecting or refracting light from the light source 50. The prism 43 is formed in a polygonal column shape. The prism 43 is disposed inside the light guide 40 at a position that is point-symmetric with the light output surface 42 across the axis of the light guide 40. The portion of the inner surface of the light guide 40 where the prism 43 is disposed is formed in a flat shape. Hereinafter, the prism 43 is assumed to be formed in a triangular column shape.

[0024] The prism 43 has a bottom surface portion 43a, a first inclined surface portion 43b, and a second inclined surface portion 43c. The bottom surface portion 43a, the first inclined surface portion 43b, and the second inclined surface portion 43c form three surfaces of a triangular prism. The bottom surface portion 43a is a surface portion that spreads along the extension direction. The first inclined surface portion 43b and the second inclined surface portion 43c are each a surface portion that spreads at an incline with respect to the extension direction. The first inclined surface portion 43b and the second inclined surface portion 43c each reflect or refract light from the light source 50.

[0025] The bottom surface portion 43a contacts the inner surface of the light guide 40 at a point symmetrical position to the light output surface 42 across the axis of the light guide 40. The first inclined surface portion 43b and the second inclined surface portion 43c each protrude from the bottom surface portion 43a so as to hinder the progression of light inside the light guide 40. The first inclined surface portion 43b and the second inclined surface portion 43c are in line contact with each other by bringing the protruding ends into contact with each other. The first inclined surface portion 43b is disposed on the driver's seat side in the extension direction. The second inclined surface portion 43c is disposed on the passenger's seat side in the extension direction.

[0026] The bottom surface portion 43a and the first inclined surface portion 43b form an angle α. That is, the angle α is the angle that the first inclined surface portion 43b forms with respect to the direction in which the light guide 40 extends from the driver's seat side to the passenger's seat side. The bottom surface portion 43a and the second inclined surface portion 43c form an angle β. The angle β is the angle that the second inclined surface portion 43c forms with respect to the direction in which the light guide 40 extends from the passenger's seat side to the driver's seat side. The angles α and β are each set to define the traveling direction of light. The angle α is set to be equal to or smaller than the angle β. The angles α and β are each set to, for example, 70° or less (preferably, 60° or less).

[0027] The prism 43 has a prism height h as a length from the bottom surface 43a to a protruding end where the first inclined surface 43b and the second inclined surface 43c meet. The prism height h is a height in a direction perpendicular to the extending direction of the first inclined surface 43b or the second inclined surface 43c. The prism 43 has a prism width w as a length of a triangular prism. The prism height h and the prism width w are each set so as to ensure uniformity of brightness in the vehicle width direction of the interior light emitting device 1 or a gradual change in the brightness. The prism height h is set to, for example, 0.8 mm to 1.5 mm. The prism width w is set to, for example, 0.5 mm to 2 mm.

[0028] A plurality of prisms 43 (for example, 300 to 400 pieces) are arranged in the extending direction of the light guide 40. The prisms 43 are arranged at a predetermined pitch p in the extending direction. The predetermined pitch p is set so as to ensure uniformity of brightness in the vehicle width direction of the light emitting device 1 for vehicle interior or a gradual change in the brightness. The predetermined pitch p is set to, for example, 1.5 mm to 3.5 mm. In order to make the light emitted by the light emitting device 1 for vehicle interior approximately uniform in the extending direction of the light guide 40 as seen by the vehicle driver, it is preferable that the predetermined pitch p is changed according to the extending direction position of the prism 43 (specifically, the relative positional relationship between the prism 43 and the vehicle driver's seat) as shown in FIG. 9. For example, the predetermined pitch p may be set in two stages so that the vehicle driver's seat side is larger than the passenger seat side.

[0029] In order to make the light emitted by the in-vehicle light emitting device 1 substantially uniform along the extension direction of the light guide 40 as seen by the vehicle driver, it is preferable to set the following conditions. Specifically, the angle α is preferably changed according to the extension direction position of the prism 43 (specifically, the relative positional relationship between the prism 43 and the vehicle driver's seat) as shown in Fig. 6. For example, the angle α may be set in two stages so that the angle is larger on the passenger seat side than on the vehicle driver's seat side. The angle β may be a constant value equal to or greater than the angle α, regardless of the extension direction position of the prism 43.

[0030] 7 and 8, the prism height h and prism width w may each be changed according to the distance of the prism 43 from the light source 50. For example, the prism height h may be set to be larger as the distance from the light source 50 increases. The prism width w may be set to be larger as the distance from the light source 50 increases. The distance from the light source 50 is the distance from the closer of the two light sources 50.

[0031] The outer lens 60 is a lens that outputs the light emitted from the light guide 40 to the outside of the vehicle. The outer lens 60 extends in the extension direction of the light guide 40. The outer lens 60 is provided so as to cover the light guide 40. Specifically, the outer lens 60 has a housing portion 61 that forms a housing space 80 that houses the light guide 40. The housing portion 61 is formed to have a U-shaped or semicircular cross section. The outer lens 60 covers the light guide 40 from above and in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle so that the opening of the housing portion 61 faces downward. The outer lens 60 may be curved in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle in the extension direction of the light guide 40 in accordance with the curvature of the light guide 40.

[0032] The outer lens 60 has an exposed surface 62. The exposed surface 62 is a design surface portion exposed to the interior of the vehicle cabin through the slit 12. The exposed surface 62 is provided near an upper corner portion of the housing portion 61 on the interior side of the vehicle cabin, and extends along the slit 12. The exposed surface 62 is formed in a transmissive portion that can transmit light emitted from the light guide 40. The exposed surface 62 emits the light from the light guide 40 into the interior of the vehicle cabin.

[0033] Further, the outer lens 60 has a knurled portion 63. The knurled portion 63 is a portion consisting of numerous projections and recesses extending along the extension direction of the outer lens 60. The knurled portion 63 is provided on the inner surface facing away from the exposed surface 62 of the housing portion 61. The knurled portion 63 has the function of suppressing diffusion of light emitted by the light guide 40 when the light enters the outer lens 60, making it easier to emit the light into the vehicle interior.

[0034] Furthermore, in order to prevent the unevenness of the knurled portion 63 on the inner surface of the outer lens 60 from appearing as bright lines and being visible to vehicle occupants, a texture may be formed on the exposed surface 62, or the outer lens 60 may be made of a transparent resin material containing a diffusing material.

[0035] Furthermore, the portion of the outer lens 60 other than the exposed surface 62 may have a non-transmitting portion to prevent light from leaking outward. This non-transmitting portion is colored, for example, black. This non-transmitting portion is formed, for example, by two-color molding together with the exposed surface 62, or by painting the front or back surface of a part of a transparent body integrally formed with the exposed surface 62 and the non-transmitting portion.

[0036] The retainer 70 is a plate-shaped holder that holds the light guide 40. The retainer 70 extends in the extension direction of the light guide 40. The retainer 70 can also hold the light sources 50 that are connected to both ends of the light guide 40 in the extension direction. The outer lens 60 is attached to the retainer 70. The outer lens 60 is attached to the retainer 70 by claw engagement or the like. With the outer lens 60 attached, the retainer 70 closes the opening of the housing portion 61 of the outer lens 60 to form a housing space 80. The retainer 70 is attached and fixed to the vehicle body side at the mounting portion 71 by screwing or the like.

[0037] The retainer 70 has a light guide holding portion 72. The light guide holding portion 72 is a portion that holds the light guide 40. The light guide holding portion 72 extends in the extension direction of the light guide 40, and is formed to have a U-shaped or semicircular cross section. The retainer 70, including the light guide holding portion 72, is formed in white overall in order to guide as much light from the light guide 40 as possible toward the vehicle occupant via the light exit surface 42.

[0038] The light guide holding part 72 has an inclined surface 72a. The inclined surface 72a is provided on an inner surface of the light guide holding part 72 where a surface that is point-symmetric with the light output surface 42 across the axis of the light guide 40 contacts. Specifically, the inclined surface 72a is a flat surface that contacts the bottom surface 43a of the prism 43 of the light guide 40. The light guide holding part 72 (particularly the inclined surface 72a) is configured to reflect light emitted from a surface of the light guide 40 that is point-symmetric with the light output surface 42 to the light output surface 42.

[0039] The opening of light guide holding part 72 is formed so that the opening width narrows from the rear side to the front side of the opening. This is to stably hold light guide 40 in light guide holding part 72 and to prevent light guide 40, which has a substantially circular cross section, from rotating within light guide holding part 72 while light guide 40 is held by light guide holding part 72.

[0040] The exposed surface 62 of the outer lens 60 and the inclined surface 72a of the retainer 70 (i.e., the bottom surface portion 43a of the prism 43 for reflecting or refracting light in the light guide 40) are formed so that both surfaces form an angle of, for example, 0° to 40°.

[0041] The retainer 70 has a lens positioning portion 73. The lens positioning portion 73 is a wall portion that positions the outer lens 60. The lens positioning portion 73 positions the outer lens 60 by contacting with the inner surface of a side wall that is located on the opposite side (far side) from the exposed surface 62 in the housing portion 61 of the outer lens 60. The lens positioning portion 73 may also serve as a part of the light guide holding portion 72.

[0042] With the outer lens 60 attached to the retainer 70, the retainer 70 and the outer lens 60 form the above-mentioned accommodation space 80. The light guide 40 is accommodated in the accommodation space 80 while being held by the retainer 70. The light guide 40 is located in the accommodation space 80 on the front side of the vehicle, which is outside the passenger compartment, and is located further forward of the exposed surface 62 of the outer lens 60.

[0043] The light guide 40 is disposed further outward from the vehicle compartment (toward the front of the vehicle) than an outer end He of the panel upper part 30H of the lower panel 30, and further outward from the vehicle compartment (toward the front of the vehicle) than an outer end Le of the panel lower part 20L of the upper panel 20. In addition, the light guide 40 is disposed below a slit 12 that is opened near the boundary between the upper panel 20 and the lower panel 30.

[0044] 2. Assembly and operation of the in-car light emitting device The in-vehicle light emitting device 1 is assembled according to the following procedure. First, the light guide 40 is attached to and held by the retainer 70, the light sources 50 are connected to both ends of the light guide 40 in the extending direction, and the outer lens 60 is attached to the retainer 70 so as to cover the light guide 40. After this assembly, the light guide 40 is accommodated in the accommodation space 80 formed by the retainer 70 and the outer lens 60. Then, the light guide 40 is located on the outer side of the vehicle within the accommodation space 80.

[0045] Next, after the retainer 70, the light guide 40, the light source 50, and the outer lens 60 are assembled as described above, the interior light emitting device 1 is attached to the rear side (i.e., the front side of the vehicle) of the instrument panel 10. The interior light emitting device 1 is attached to the instrument panel 10 so that the exposed surface 62 of the outer lens 60 is exposed to the interior of the vehicle through the slit 12 opened near the boundary between the upper panel 20 and the lower panel 30.

[0046] When the interior light emitting device 1 is attached to the instrument panel 10, the light guide 40 is disposed outside the vehicle compartment relative to both the vehicle compartment outer end He of the panel upper part 30H of the lower panel 30 and the vehicle compartment outer end Le of the panel lower part 20L of the upper panel 20. In addition, the light guide 40 is disposed below the slit 12 formed between the vehicle compartment outer end He of the lower panel 30 and the vehicle compartment outer end Le of the upper panel 20.

[0047] The above-described in-vehicle light emitting device 1 emits visible light from the light source 50 when a predetermined condition is met. The predetermined condition is a condition for issuing a warning or alert to the vehicle driver, such as notifying the driver of the vehicle that a vehicle ahead of the vehicle has started moving from a stopped state, or notifying the driver of the vehicle that the distance between the vehicle and the vehicle ahead of the vehicle is getting smaller.

[0048] When the light source 50 emits light, the light enters the light entrance surface 41 of the light guide 40 and travels in the extending direction inside the light guide 40. The light that has traveled inside the light guide 40 is reflected or refracted by the prism 43, and then, as shown in Fig. 4, travels obliquely upward from the outside of the vehicle cabin to the inside of the vehicle cabin inside the light guide 40 and is emitted from the light exit surface 42. The light emitted from the light exit surface 42 of the light guide 40 first travels obliquely upward from the outside of the vehicle cabin to the inside of the vehicle cabin inside the accommodation space 80, and then enters the outer lens 60 from the back side and is emitted from the exposed surface 62 through the slits 12 into the vehicle cabin (specifically, obliquely upward from the outside of the vehicle cabin to the inside of the vehicle cabin).

[0049] When light is emitted through the slit 12 as described above, the vehicle driver can see the light emitted from the slit 12 near the boundary between the upper panel 20 and the lower panel 30 of the instrument panel 10.

[0050] 3. Effects of in-car lighting devices In the above-mentioned in-vehicle light-emitting device 1, the light emitted by the light guide 40 travels diagonally upward from the outside of the vehicle compartment to the inside of the vehicle compartment within the storage space 80, and then travels diagonally upward from the exposed surface 62 of the outer lens 60 through the slit 12 from the outside of the vehicle compartment to the inside of the vehicle compartment, and is emitted into the vehicle compartment.

[0051] According to the above configuration, when the light emitted by the light guide 40 is emitted from the vicinity of the boundary between the upper panel 20 and the lower panel 30 of the instrument panel 10 into the interior of the vehicle, it is not necessary to reflect the light emitted by the light guide 40 on the surfaces of the upper panel 20, the lower panel 30, etc., and it is not necessary to greatly bend the light from the light guide 40 before it reaches the interior of the vehicle. Therefore, the light from the light guide 40 can be emitted into the interior of the vehicle without being greatly bent. This reduces the constraints in determining the structure, position, and light emission direction of the light guide 40, and the inclination angles of the upper panel 20 and the lower panel 30, etc.

[0052] Further, the outer lens 60 has an exposed surface 62 exposed to the interior of the vehicle through the slit 12. The slit 12 is provided at the innermost part of a front surface space 11 formed on the interior side of the vehicle between the panel lower part 20L of the upper panel 20 and the panel upper part 30H of the lower panel 30, and is formed between an outer end Le of the panel lower part 20L of the upper panel 20 and an outer end He of the panel upper part 30H of the lower panel 30.

[0053] Therefore, the exposed surface 62 of the outer lens 60 is disposed at the innermost portion of the front space 11 and is exposed to the interior of the vehicle cabin. Therefore, when the interior light emitting device 1 is not emitting light, the exposed surface 62 of the outer lens 60 can be made inconspicuous from the inside of the vehicle cabin, so that the design of the instrument panel 10 can be prevented from being impaired.

[0054] On the other hand, when the interior light emitting device 1 emits light, the light emitting surface appearing near the boundary between the upper panel 20 and the lower panel 30 can be formed in a strip or line shape. In particular, even during the daytime when the interior of the vehicle is bright, the innermost part of the front side space 11 is surrounded by the upper panel 20 and the lower panel 30, so that the surfaces of the upper panel 20 and the lower panel 30 located around the exposed surface 62 become dark. For this reason, the brightness of the exposed surface 62 near the boundary between the upper panel 20 and the lower panel 30 can be increased, thereby improving the visibility of the vehicle driver.

[0055] Furthermore, the retainer 70 and the outer lens 60 form an accommodation space 80 that accommodates the light guide 40. The light guide 40 is located on the outside of the vehicle cabin within the accommodation space 80. Meanwhile, the exposed surface 62 of the outer lens 60 is provided near an upper corner on the interior side of the vehicle cabin of the accommodation portion 61. With this structure, a larger distance can be ensured between the light guide 40 and the exposed surface 62 of the outer lens 60 compared to a structure in which the light guide 40 is located on the inside of the vehicle cabin within the accommodation space 80, so that the refraction of light at the outer lens 60 can be kept small.

[0056] Furthermore, the outer lens 60 is positioned in the retainer 70 by the side wall of the housing portion 61 opposite to the exposed surface 62 contacting the lens positioning portion 73. Therefore, the retainer 70 and the outer lens 60 can be assembled easily and accurately, and the ease of assembly can be improved.

[0057] The light guide 40 also has a number of prisms 43 aligned in the extension direction. Each prism 43 has inclined surface portions 43b, 43c that reflect or refract light from the light source 50. The prism height h of each prism 43 is changed according to the distance of the prism 43 from the light source 50, and is greater as the distance from the light source 50 to the prism 43 is longer. In this configuration, the prism height h of the prism 43 that is farther from the light source 50 is greater, which makes it easier to reflect light to the light output surface 42 at a location in the extension direction of the light guide 40 that is farther from the light source 50.

[0058] Therefore, even if the amount of light reaching a point farther from the light source 50 in the extension direction of the light guide 40 is smaller, the light is more likely to be reflected to the light exit surface 42, so that the light emitted from the light guide 40 and, ultimately, the exposed surface 62 of the outer lens 60 can be made approximately uniform along the extension direction.

[0059] Moreover, the prism width w of each prism 43 is changed according to the distance of the prism 43 from the light source 50, and is larger as the distance from the light source 50 to the prism 43 is longer. In this configuration, the prism width w is larger for the prism 43 farther from the light source 50, which makes it easier to reflect light to the light output surface 42 at a location farther from the light source 50 in the extension direction of the light guide 40. Therefore, even if the amount of light reaching a location farther from the light source 50 in the extension direction of the light guide 40 is smaller, the light is more easily reflected to the light output surface 42, so that the light emitted from the light guide 40 and thus the exposed surface 62 of the outer lens 60 can be made substantially uniform along the extension direction.

[0060] Further, the angle α of the first inclined surface portion 43b of each prism 43 is equal to or smaller than the angle β of the second inclined surface portion 43c. The first inclined surface portion 43b is disposed on the driver's seat side in the extending direction of the light guide 40, and the second inclined surface portion 43c is disposed on the passenger seat side in the extending direction of the light guide 40. With this configuration, the direction in which the first inclined surface portion 43b reflects the light from the light source 50 can be set to the inside of the vehicle interior, and the direction in which the second inclined surface portion 43c reflects the light from the light source 50 can be set to the inside of the vehicle interior. Therefore, the light guide 40 can efficiently guide the light into the vehicle interior.

[0061] In addition, the angle α of the first inclined surface portion 43b of each prism 43 is changed according to the position in the extension direction of the prism 43, and is set so that the angle is smaller on the driver's seat side and larger on the passenger seat side. With this configuration, when the light emitted from the light source 50 is reflected by the prism 43, the light can be easily guided to the driver's seat side even at the passenger seat side in the extension direction of the light guide 40, and the driver can see uniform light over the entire extension direction of the light guide 40. Therefore, the visibility of the light for the vehicle driver can be improved, and the uniformity of the light can be used to casually notify the vehicle driver of a notice such as a warning without bothering the vehicle driver.

[0062] Furthermore, the prisms 43 are arranged at a predetermined pitch p in the extension direction. This predetermined pitch p is changed according to the extension direction position of the prisms 43, and is set so that the driver's seat side is larger and the passenger seat side is smaller. With this configuration, when the light emitted from the light source 50 is reflected by the prisms 43, the amount of light reflected at the passenger seat side in the extension direction of the light guide 40 can be increased, and the light reaching the driver can be made uniform over the entire extension direction of the light guide 40. Therefore, the visibility of the light for the vehicle driver can be improved, and the uniformity of the light can be used to casually notify the vehicle driver of a notice such as a warning without bothering the vehicle driver.

[0063] In the above embodiment, the instrument panel 10 corresponds to the "vehicle interior part" described in the claims, the first inclined surface portion 43b corresponds to the "inclined surface portion" described in the claims, the angle α corresponds to the "first angle" described in the claims, and the angle β corresponds to the "second angle" described in the claims.

[0064] In the above embodiment, the instrument panel 10 is used as the vehicle interior part that is illuminated by the in-vehicle light emitting device 1. However, the present invention is not limited to this, and may be applied to vehicle interior parts other than the instrument panel, such as a door panel, a dashboard, and a rear panel.

[0065] In the above embodiment, the light sources 50 are provided at both ends of the light guide 40 in the extension direction. However, the present invention is not limited to this, and may be applied to a configuration in which the light sources 50 are provided at either end of the light guide 40 in the extension direction.

[0066] In the above embodiment, the light guide 40 is disposed further outside the vehicle compartment than both the vehicle compartment outer end Le of the panel lower part 20L of the upper panel 20 and the vehicle compartment outer end He of the panel upper part 30H of the lower panel 30. However, the present invention is not limited to this, and the light guide 40 may be disposed at least further outside the vehicle compartment than the vehicle compartment outer end He of the panel upper part 30H of the lower panel 30.

[0067] Furthermore, in the above embodiment, the slit 12 is formed between the vehicle compartment outer end Le of the panel lower portion 20L of the upper panel 20 and the vehicle compartment outer end He of the panel upper portion 30H of the lower panel 30, and the light guide 40 is disposed on the vehicle compartment outer side of both the vehicle compartment outer end Le of the panel lower portion 20L of the upper panel 20 and the vehicle compartment outer end He of the panel upper portion 30H of the lower panel 30. However, the present invention is not limited to this, and the slit 12 may be formed penetrating through the panel upper portion 30H of the lower panel 30 (particularly, a portion of the panel upper portion 30H on the vehicle compartment outer end He side), and the light guide 40 may be disposed at least on the vehicle compartment outer side of the vehicle compartment outer end Le of the panel lower portion 20L of the upper panel 20.

[0068] The present invention is not limited to the above-described embodiment and modified forms, and various modifications can be made without departing from the spirit of the present invention. [Explanation of symbols]
