Description

[Technical field]

[0001] The present invention relates to a flexible printed wiring board, and more particularly to a flexible printed wiring board having a bending region. [Background technology]

[0002] In recent years, with the increase in signal transmission speed within electronic devices, wiring for high-speed signal transmission, such as fine coaxial cables, is widely used. In cases where multiple high-speed transmission signals need to be transmitted, they are increasingly being replaced with printed wiring boards that save space and make it easier to wire within the device. For example, Patent Document 1 describes a flexible printed wiring board provided with high-speed signal transmission wiring for transmitting high-speed signals.

[0003] When a flexible printed circuit board is placed in a folding section (such as a hinge) of an electronic device's housing, the flexible printed circuit board must have sufficient bending resistance. However, in the case of a flexible printed circuit board with two or more conductor layers, the stress generated in the conductor layers when bent is large, increasing the risk of the conductor layers breaking due to metal fatigue. To avoid this, it is known that providing a hollow space (air layer) between the conductor layers in the bending area can significantly reduce the stress applied to the conductor layers when bent. [0004] [Patent Document 1] Patent No. 6732723 [Patent Document 2] Patent No. 4236837 [Patent Document 3] Patent No. 4481184 Summary of the Invention [Problem to be solved by the invention]

[0005] Incidentally, in order to prevent the deterioration of signal quality due to reflection of high-speed signals, it is necessary to match the characteristic impedance to a predetermined value (target value) over the entire area of the hollow and non-hollow parts of the flexible printed wiring board. For example, assuming the transmission of a signal received by an antenna, it is desirable to keep the change in characteristic impedance caused by bending of the flexible printed wiring board within ±10% of the target value in order to prevent the deterioration of signal quality. In the case of a transmission line system consisting of a single-ended 50 Ω, it is preferable that the characteristic impedance is matched within the range of 50 ± 5 Ω.

[0006] However, with conventional flexible printed wiring boards, it has been difficult to keep the characteristic impedance within this range. The reason for this is that when the flexible printed wiring board is bent, the distance between the signal line and the ground layer in the hollow portion fluctuates, which in turn changes the capacitance component between the signal line and the ground layer, resulting in a fluctuation in the characteristic impedance.

[0007] The present invention has been made based on the above recognition, and aims to provide a flexible printed wiring board that can suppress fluctuations in characteristic impedance when the flexible printed wiring board is bent and has excellent bending resistance. [Means for solving the problem]

[0008] The flexible printed wiring board according to the embodiment includes: A flexible printed wiring board having a curved region in which an air layer is provided, a signal line passing through the bent region, and a ground layer provided in a layer different from the signal line via an insulating layer, In the bending region, when viewed in the thickness direction of the flexible printed wiring board, the ground layer is not provided in at least a portion of the portion overlapping with the signal line, and when viewed in the width direction of the signal line, the air layer penetrates the flexible printed wiring board.

[0009] In the flexible printed wiring board, The ground layer may be provided with a ground opening at least partially overlapping with the signal line when viewed in a thickness direction of the flexible printed wiring board.

[0010] In the flexible printed wiring board, The width of the ground opening may be equal to the width of the signal line.

[0011] In the flexible printed wiring board, a guard ground wiring provided so as to sandwich the signal line; The ground opening may be open to a side end of the guard ground wiring that faces the signal line when viewed in a thickness direction of the flexible printed wiring board.

[0012] In the flexible printed wiring board, a guard ground wiring provided so as to sandwich the signal line; The ground opening may be open halfway through the guard ground wiring when viewed in a thickness direction of the flexible printed wiring board.

[0013] In the flexible printed wiring board, The signal lines are provided in a plurality of lines running in parallel, The ground opening may be open so that at least a portion of the ground opening overlaps with the plurality of signal lines when viewed in a thickness direction of the flexible printed wiring board.

[0014] In the flexible printed wiring board, The ground opening may be open to a position 50 to 100 μm away from a side end of the signal line in a width direction of the signal line.

[0015] In the flexible printed wiring board, The ground layer may include a first ground layer and a second ground layer sandwiching the bent region therebetween.

[0016] In the flexible printed wiring board, The ground opening may be provided so as to extend over the entire length of the bent region. Effect of the Invention

[0017] According to the present invention, it is possible to provide a flexible printed wiring board that can suppress fluctuations in characteristic impedance when the flexible printed wiring board is bent and has excellent bending resistance. [Brief description of the drawings]

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS

[0019] Hereinafter, embodiments of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings. In each drawing, components having equivalent functions are given the same reference numerals. The drawings are schematic and mainly show the characteristic parts according to each embodiment, and the relationship between thickness and planar dimensions, the thickness ratio of each layer, etc. differ from the actual ones.

[0020] <Method of manufacturing flexible printed wiring board> First, a method for manufacturing a flexible printed wiring board according to an embodiment will be described with reference to cross-sectional views of steps in FIGS. 1A to 1C.

[0021] As shown in Fig. 1A(1), a single-sided metal-clad laminate 10 is prepared, which has a base film 11 (first base film) and a metal foil 12 (first metal foil) provided on one main surface of the base film 11. The base film 11 is an insulating film made of polyimide or the like. The metal foil 12 is a copper foil.

[0022] 1A(2), the metal foil 12 of the single-sided metal-clad laminate 10 is patterned by a method such as photofabrication to form the signal line 2. In this process, the guard ground wiring 3, which will be described later, is also formed.

[0023] Next, as shown in FIG. 1A(3), a coverlay 20 having a cover film 21 and an adhesive layer 22 provided on one main surface of the cover film 21 is prepared, and the coverlay 20 is bonded to the base film 11 so that the adhesive layer 22 buries the signal line 2.

[0024] 1A(4), a bonding sheet 31 provided with a through region A1 is temporarily attached onto the cover film 21. Similarly, a bonding sheet 32 provided with a through region A2 is temporarily attached onto the base film 11. The bonding sheets 31 and 32 are made of, for example, the same material as the adhesive layer 22. The through regions A1 and A2 are provided in the bonding sheets 31 and 32, respectively, by punching or the like.

[0025] In this embodiment, the bonding sheets 31 and 32 are arranged such that the through region A1 and the through region A2 almost overlap when viewed in the thickness direction. The through regions A1 and A2 become air layers (hollow portions) and become bending regions R (described later) of the flexible printed wiring board according to the embodiment. Note that the bonding sheets 31 and 32 may be arranged such that the through region A1 and the through region A2 only partially overlap when viewed in the thickness direction.

[0026] 1B(1), a single-sided metal-clad laminate 10A is prepared, which has a base film 11A and a metal foil 12A provided on one main surface of the base film 11A. The base film 11A is an insulating film made of polyimide or the like, and the metal foil 12A is a copper foil. The single-sided metal-clad laminate 10A is bonded to the bonding sheet 31 so that the base film 11A is in contact with the bonding sheet 31.

[0027] Similarly, a single-sided metal-clad laminate 10B is prepared, which has a base film 11B and a metal foil 12B provided on one main surface of the base film 11B. The base film 11B is an insulating film made of polyimide or the like, and the metal foil 12B is a copper foil. The single-sided metal-clad laminate 10B is attached to the bonding sheet 32 so that the base film 11B contacts the bonding sheet 32.

[0028] In this way, after single-sided metal-clad laminate 10A and single-sided metal-clad laminate 10B are bonded to bonding sheet 31 and bonding sheet 32, respectively, adhesive layer 22 and bonding sheets 31, 32 are hardened by heating and pressurizing using a vacuum press device or a vacuum laminator device.

[0029] Next, as shown in FIG. 1B(2), conformal masks M1 and M2 for laser processing are formed on the metal foil 12A. The conformal masks M1 and M2 are formed, for example, by subjecting the metal foil 12A to an etching process. In this embodiment, the conformal masks M1 and M2 are formed in portions corresponding to both ends of the signal line 2 (the left end and the right end in FIG. 1B(2)).

[0030] 1B(3), laser light is applied to the conformal masks M1 and M2 to form holes H1 and H2 for conductivity with the signal line 2 exposed at the bottom. For the laser light, an infrared laser such as a carbon dioxide laser or a UV-YAG laser is used, for example. After the laser light is applied, a desmear process is performed to remove resin residues and the like at the bottom of the holes H1 and H2 for conductivity.

[0031] 1B(4), the holes H1 and H2 for conductivity are plated (for example, electrolytic copper plating) to form vias 41 and 42 that electrically connect the signal line 2 and the metal foil 12A. In this embodiment, the holes H1 and H2 for conductivity are filled with a plating metal (for example, copper), but they do not have to be filled.

[0032] 1C(1), the metal foil 12A is patterned by a method such as photofabrication to form signal terminals 51 and 52 electrically connected to the vias 41 and 42. In this process, a ground layer 61 to which the guard ground wiring is electrically connected and in which a ground opening GO1 is provided is also formed. As will be described in detail later, the ground opening GO1 is formed in the bending region R so as to overlap the signal line 2 when viewed in the thickness direction.

[0033] 1C(1), the metal foil 12B is patterned to form a ground layer 62 having a ground opening GO2. Although not shown, the guard ground wiring 3 is electrically connected to the ground layer 62 in the extension region S.

[0034] In this embodiment, the ground opening GO1 and the ground opening GO2 are provided so as to overlap when viewed in the thickness direction.

[0035] Thereafter, as shown in FIG. 1C(2), protective coverlays 20A and 20B are bonded together. In detail, a coverlay 20A having a cover film 21A and an adhesive layer 22A provided on one main surface of the cover film 21A is prepared, and the coverlay 20A is bonded together so that the adhesive layer 22A fills the vias 41 and 42 and the ground opening GO1. A coverlay 20B having a cover film 21B and an adhesive layer 22B provided on one main surface of the cover film 21B is prepared, and the coverlay 20B is bonded together so that the adhesive layer 22B fills the ground opening GO2. Thereafter, the adhesive layers 22A and 22B are cured by applying heat and pressure using a vacuum press device or a vacuum laminator device.

[0036] After the above steps, the signal terminals 51, 52 are subjected to surface treatment, external processing, etc., to produce the flexible printed wiring board 1 according to the embodiment. In this embodiment, unnecessary ends are removed in the external processing, so that an air layer penetrates the flexible printed wiring board 1 when viewed in the width direction of the signal line 2. Furthermore, according to the above manufacturing method, the ground opening GO1 can be formed in the process of forming the signal terminals 51, 52. That is, the flexible printed wiring board 1 according to the embodiment can be manufactured without adding a new process.

[0037] The materials of the base films 11, 11A, 11B and the cover film 21 may be polyimide-based materials such as MPI and PI, or other insulating materials such as liquid crystal polymer (LCP) and fluorine-based materials (PFA, PTFE, etc.). The metal foils 12, 12A, 12B may be metal foils made of metals other than copper (silver, aluminum, etc.).

[0038] <Flexible printed wiring board> Next, the configuration of the flexible printed wiring board produced as described above will be described with reference to Fig. 2 and Fig. 3. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the flexible printed wiring board according to the present embodiment. Fig. 3(a) is a cross-sectional view taken along line II in Fig. 2, and Fig. 3(b) is a cross-sectional view taken along line II-II in Fig. 2. Fig. 3(b) is the same view as Fig. 1C(2).

[0039] A flexible printed wiring board 1 according to this embodiment includes a signal line 2, a guard ground line 3, vias 41 and 42, signal terminals 51 and 52, and ground layers 61 and 62.

[0040] In the flexible printed wiring board 1, the region where the air layers AL1, AL2 are provided between the signal line 2 and the ground layers 61, 62 is the bending region R. The air layers AL1, AL2 allow the signal line 2, the ground layers 61, and the ground layers 62 to bend independently. As a result, the stress generated due to the difference in the radius of curvature when bending is alleviated, and high bending resistance is obtained.

[0041] Moreover, the air layers AL1 and AL2 penetrate the flexible printed wiring board 1 when viewed in the width direction of the signal line 2. That is, the air layers AL1 and AL2 extend from one side surface to the other side surface of the flexible printed wiring board 1. This can further improve the bending resistance (repeated bending resistance) of the flexible printed wiring board 1.

[0042] An extension region S, in which the signal line 2 extends, is provided so as to sandwich the bent region R. In FIG. 2, the bent region R is illustrated as being longer than the extension region S. However, the present invention is not limited to this, and the extension region S may be longer than the bent region R.

[0043] 3(a), in the extension region S, the signal line 2 and the ground layer 61 are arranged to sandwich an insulating layer consisting of the adhesive layer 22, the cover film 21, the bonding sheet 31, and the base film 11A. In the bent region R, the signal line 2 and the ground layer 61 are arranged to sandwich an insulating layer consisting of the adhesive layer 22, the cover film 21, the air layer AL1, and the base film 11A.

[0044] In the extension region S, the signal line 2 and the ground layer 62 are arranged to sandwich an insulating layer made up of the base film 11, the bonding sheet 32, and the base film 11B. In the bent region R, the signal line 2 and the ground layer 62 are arranged to sandwich an insulating layer made up of the base film 11, the air layer AL2, and the base film 11B.

[0045] The signal line 2 is a line through which a high-frequency signal propagates. In this embodiment, the signal line 2 is provided so as to extend along the longitudinal direction of the flexible printed wiring board 1 through the bending region R. The flexible printed wiring board 1 has a so-called stripline structure in which a ground layer 61 and a ground layer 62 are provided above and below the signal line 1, respectively.

[0046] 2 and 3(b), the guard ground wiring 3 is provided so as to sandwich the signal line 2 in a plan view. In this embodiment, the guard ground wiring 3 is provided so as to extend along the longitudinal direction of the flexible printed wiring board 1 and through the bending region R. In the extension region S, the guard ground wiring 3 is electrically connected to the ground layer 61 and / or the ground layer 62 by a via (not shown).

[0047] Note that a plurality of signal lines 2 may be provided so as to run in parallel. In this case, a guard ground wiring 3 is provided between the signal lines 2. Alternatively, the guard ground wiring 3 may be provided so as to sandwich the plurality of signal lines 2 therebetween.

[0048] The via 41 electrically connects one end of the signal line 2 to a signal terminal 51. The via 42 electrically connects the other end of the signal line 2 to a signal terminal 52. The signal terminals 51 and 52 are connected to a connector, another printed wiring board, or the like.

[0049] As described above, the ground layers 61 and 62 are provided on a layer different from the signal line 2 via an insulating layer. Note that the ground layers 61 and 62 preferably have a so-called solid pattern on the adjacent surfaces that will be adjacent to other components or printed wiring boards when the flexible printed wiring board 1 is placed in the housing of an electronic device. The ground layers 61 and 62 may have a solid pattern across the bent region R and the extended region S.

[0050] 2 and 3(b), ground layers 61, 62 are provided with ground openings GO1, GO2 in the bending region R so that the ground layers 61, 62 do not overlap the signal line 2 when viewed in the thickness direction of the flexible printed wiring board 1. That is, the ground layer 61 is provided with a ground opening GO1 that overlaps the signal line 2 when viewed in the thickness direction, and the ground layer 62 is provided with a ground opening GO2 that overlaps the signal line 2 when viewed in the thickness direction. In this embodiment, the widths of the ground openings GO1, GO2 are equal to the width of the signal line 2, as shown in FIG. 3(b).

[0051] 4 shows the results of a simulation of the transmission characteristics (characteristic impedance) of the flexible printed wiring board 1 according to this embodiment. The distance between the signal line 2 and the guard ground wiring 3 was set to 50 μm. The line width of the guard ground wiring 3 was set to the same as that of the signal line 2. The thickness and physical properties of each layer used in the simulation are as shown in Table 1.

[0052] [Table 1] According to the results of a simulation performed under the above conditions, the target value of the characteristic impedance, 50Ω, is achieved when the thickness (Gap) of each of the air layers AL1 and AL2 is 25 μm (design value) and the line width of the signal line 2 is between 150 and 160 μm. When the Gap is 0 μm, the characteristic impedance at that line width is 38Ω (−12.0Ω from the target value), and when the Gap is 50 μm, the characteristic impedance at that line width is 58Ω (+8.0Ω from the target value). Thus, the characteristic impedance varies by ±10% or more from the target value due to the change in the thickness of the air layers AL1 and AL2 caused by bending. However, the variation in the characteristic impedance can be reduced compared to the case without the ground opening (comparative example described later).

[0053] The ground openings GO1, GO2 of the ground layers 61, 62 do not have to be provided over the entire longitudinal area of the curved region R. In other words, the ground openings GO1, GO2 may be provided only in a partial area of the curved region R in the longitudinal direction.

[0054] Furthermore, the ground openings GO1, GO2 do not have to open to the side ends of the signal lines 2 over the entire width direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the flexible printed wiring board 1. In other words, the ground openings GO1, GO2 may be provided only in a part of the width direction of the bending region R.

[0055] Furthermore, the ground opening GO1 and the ground opening GO2 may have different opening shapes.

[0056] Furthermore, when a plurality of signal lines 2 are provided, the ground openings GO1, GO2 may be opened so as to overlap at least a portion of the plurality of signal lines 2 when viewed in the thickness direction of the flexible printed wiring board 1. Alternatively, the ground openings GO1, GO2 may be provided for each signal line 2 so as to overlap at least a portion of the corresponding signal line 2.

[0057] The opening widths of the ground openings GO1 and GO2 are not limited to those in the above embodiment. Modifications 1 and 2 in which the opening widths of the ground openings GO1 and GO2 are different will be described below.

[0058] <Variation Example 1> Next, a flexible printed wiring board 1A according to a first modified example will be described with reference to Fig. 5, Fig. 6, etc. Fig. 5 is a plan view of the flexible printed wiring board 1A. Fig. 6 is a cross-sectional view taken along line II-II in Fig. 5. The cross-sectional view taken along line II in Fig. 5 is the same as Fig. 1C(2).

[0059] 5 and 6, in this modified example, the ground openings GO1 and GO2 open up to the side end of the guard ground wiring 3. More specifically, the ground opening GO1 opens up to the side end of the guard ground wiring 3 facing the signal line 2 when viewed in the thickness direction of the flexible printed wiring board 1. Although not shown, the ground opening GO2 also opens up to the side end of the guard ground wiring 3 facing the signal line 2 when viewed in the thickness direction of the flexible printed wiring board 1.

[0060] 7 shows the results of simulating the transmission characteristics (characteristic impedance) of the flexible printed wiring board 1A according to this modified example. The simulation conditions other than the opening widths of the ground openings GO1 and GO2 are the same as those in the above-described embodiment.

[0061] According to the simulation results, the target value of the characteristic impedance, 50Ω, is achieved when the thickness (Gap) of the air layers AL1, AL2 is 25 μm each and the line width of the signal line 2 is between 500 and 550 μm. When the Gap is 0 μm, the characteristic impedance at that line width is 48.3Ω (-1.7Ω from the target value), and when the Gap is 50 μm, the characteristic impedance at that line width is 51.2Ω (+1.2Ω from the target value). Thus, according to this variation, the fluctuation in the characteristic impedance caused by the change in the thickness of the air layers AL1, AL2 can be kept within the range of ±10% of the target value.

[0062] The ground openings GO1, GO2 do not have to open all the way to the side ends of the guard ground wires 3 over the entire longitudinal area of the ground openings GO1, GO2. In other words, the ground openings GO1, GO2 may open all the way to the side ends of the guard ground wires 3 in a part of the longitudinal area.

[0063] <Variation Example 2> Next, a flexible printed wiring board 1B according to a second modified example will be described with reference to Fig. 8, Fig. 9, etc. Fig. 8 is a plan view of the flexible printed wiring board 1B. Fig. 9 is a cross-sectional view taken along line II-II in Fig. 8. The cross-sectional view taken along line II in Fig. 8 is the same as Fig. 1C(2).

[0064] As can be seen from Figures 8 and 9, in this variant, the ground openings GO1, GO2, when viewed in the thickness direction of the flexible printed wiring board 1, open halfway up the guard ground wiring 3 (i.e., to the outside in the width direction beyond the side ends of the guard ground wiring 3).

[0065] 10 shows the results of a simulation of the transmission characteristics (characteristic impedance) of a flexible printed wiring board 1B according to this modified example. The simulation conditions other than the opening widths of the ground openings GO1 and GO2 are the same as those in the embodiment.

[0066] According to the simulation results, the target value of the characteristic impedance, 50Ω, is achieved when the thickness (Gap) of the air layers AL1, AL2 is 25 μm each and the line width of the signal line 2 is between 1050 and 1150 μm. When the Gap is 0 μm, the characteristic impedance at that line width is 48.7Ω (-1.3Ω from the target value), and when the Gap is 50 μm, the characteristic impedance at that line width is 50.4Ω (+0.4Ω from the target value). Thus, according to this variation, the fluctuation in the characteristic impedance accompanying the change in the thickness of the air layers AL1, AL2 can be significantly reduced.

[0067] The ground openings GO1, GO2 do not have to open to the middle of the guard ground wire 3 over the entire longitudinal area of the ground openings GO1, GO2. In other words, the ground openings GO1, GO2 may open to the middle of the guard ground wire 3 in a part of the longitudinal area.

[0068] As can be seen from the above embodiment and modified examples, as the opening width of the ground openings GO1, GO2 increases, the variation in characteristic impedance associated with the change in thickness of the air layers AL1, AL2 tends to decrease. On the other hand, if the opening width of the ground openings GO1, GO2 is too large, the effect of the ground layer is weakened, causing deterioration of noise resistance, etc. For this reason, it is desirable to make the ground openings GO1, GO2 open to a position 50 to 100 μm away from the side end of the signal line 2 in the width direction of the signal line 2, for example.

[0069] Furthermore, as in the second modified example, the ground openings GO1 and GO2 are opened partway through the guard ground wiring 3 in the same layer as the signal line 2, so that the fluctuation in the characteristic impedance can be significantly suppressed.

[0070] The types and thicknesses of materials shown in the above embodiment and modified examples are merely examples, and other types and thicknesses of materials may be used.

[0071] In the above embodiment, the number of conductor layers is three, but the present invention is not limited to this. In other words, the flexible printed wiring board may have two or four or more conductor layers as long as it has a conductor layer including a signal line and a conductor layer including a ground layer.

[0072] In the above embodiment, the flexible printed wiring board has a so-called stripline structure in which ground layers are provided on both the upper and lower layers of the signal line, but the present invention is not limited to this. That is, the flexible printed wiring board may have a so-called microstripline structure in which a ground layer is provided only on one side of the signal line. In this case, the flexible printed wiring board is provided with, for example, only one of the ground layer 61 and the ground layer 62.

[0073] In addition, in the above embodiment, the ground layer is provided with a ground opening, but this is not limited thereto, and the ground layer may be separated into two parts sandwiching the bent region R. In this case, the ground layer has a first ground layer and a second ground layer sandwiching the bent region.

[0074] Furthermore, according to the above-mentioned method for manufacturing a flexible printed wiring board, since the ground opening is formed within the process of forming the signal terminal, there is no need to add a new process, and a flexible printed wiring board in which fluctuations in characteristic impedance due to bending of the bending region are suppressed can be manufactured inexpensively.

[0075] As described above, in the present disclosure, the ground layers 61, 62 located above and below the signal line 2 are configured not to overlap at least a portion of the signal line 2 in the bending region R when viewed in the thickness direction of the flexible printed wiring board 1. In other words, in the bending region R, when viewed in the thickness direction of the flexible printed wiring board, the ground layers are not provided in at least a portion of the portion overlapping with the signal line. This makes it possible to suppress fluctuations in the characteristic impedance even if the thicknesses of the air layers AL1, AL2 change when the flexible printed wiring board is bent.

[0076] Furthermore, in the flexible printed wiring board 1 according to the embodiment, air layers AL1, AL2 are provided between the signal line 2 and the ground layers 61, 62 in the bending region R, and the air layers AL1, AL2 penetrate the flexible printed wiring board 1 in the width direction. This makes it possible to significantly improve the bending resistance (repeated bending resistance) of the flexible printed wiring board.

[0077] <Comparative Example> A comparative example will be described with reference to Figures 11(a), (b) and 12. Figure 11(a) is a plan view of a flexible printed wiring board 100 according to the comparative example. Figure 11(b) is a cross-sectional view taken along line II in Figure 11(a). Figure 12 shows a simulation result of the transmission characteristics (characteristic impedance) of the flexible printed wiring board 100.

[0078] 11, the flexible printed wiring board 100 according to the comparative example includes a signal line 120, a guard ground wiring 130, vias 141 and 142, signal terminals 151 and 152, and ground layers 161 and 162. The ground layers 161 and 162 are provided to sandwich the signal line 120 with insulating layers 171 and 172 therebetween when viewed in the thickness direction of the flexible printed wiring board 100, thereby forming a stripline structure.

[0079] Flexible printed wiring board 100 is provided with a bending region R and an extending region S, in which signal line 120 extends, sandwiching this bending region R. Air layers (hollow portions) AL110 and AL120 are provided in bending region R. Ground layers 161 and 162 are not provided with ground openings, and are provided as so-called solid patterns.

[0080] 12 is a graph showing the results of a simulation of the characteristic impedance of the flexible printed wiring board 100 according to the comparative example. The horizontal axis of the graph indicates the line width of the signal line 120, and the vertical axis indicates the characteristic impedance. The thickness and relative dielectric constant of each layer used in the simulation are the same as those in Table 1 above.

[0081] According to the results of the simulation, the target value of the characteristic impedance, 50Ω, is achieved when the thickness (Gap) of each of the air layers AL110 and AL120 is 25 μm and the line width of the signal line 120 is between 120 and 130 μm. When the Gap is 0 μm, the characteristic impedance at that line width is 34.3Ω (−15.7Ω from the target value), and when the Gap is 50 μm, the characteristic impedance at that line width is 60Ω (+10.0Ω from the target value). Thus, in the case of the flexible printed wiring board according to the comparative example, the fluctuation of the characteristic impedance when bent is larger than in the above-mentioned embodiment and modified example, and the change in the characteristic impedance is ±10% of the target value, making it difficult to propagate high-speed signals.

[0082] Based on the above description, a person skilled in the art may be able to conceive additional effects and various modifications of the present invention, but the aspects of the present invention are not limited to the above-mentioned embodiments and modified examples. Various additions, modifications, and partial deletions are possible within the scope of the conceptual idea and intent of the present invention derived from the contents defined in the claims and their equivalents.
