Description

[Technical field]

[0001] The present invention relates to a side seal for a vehicle that can absorb the impact of, for example, a side collision of the vehicle, minimize the degree of inflow into the interior of the vehicle, and protect the passengers and the battery. [Background technology]

[0002] In general, the side body of a vehicle such as an electric vehicle includes a side seal formed on the lower part thereof so as to extend along the length of the vehicle, and a filler formed so as to have one end connected to the side seal and the other end extending in the height direction of the vehicle. The filler acts as a support for the vehicle body, and the side seal acts as a body structure important for handling front and side collisions of the vehicle.

[0003] The side seal may include a side seal inner panel and a side seal outer panel. If the inside of the side seal is empty, buckling may occur under various collision conditions. For this reason, the inside of the side seal is supplemented in various ways. For example, a reinforcing member may be included inside the side seal.

[0004] However, conventional side seals have a structure that is too weak to fully absorb the side impact energy during a side impact of a vehicle. During a side impact of a vehicle, the side seal is severely deformed due to the stress concentration phenomenon of the side seal, which increases the amount of air entering the vehicle interior, resulting in greater injury to the pelvis of the passengers.

[0005] In the case of electric vehicles, protection is required not only for the passengers but also for the battery located in the large space underneath. [Prior art documents] [Patent documents]

[0006] [Patent Document 1] Patent No. 6439401 (B2) Summary of the Invention [Problem to be solved by the invention]

[0007] The present invention aims to provide a vehicle side seal that can absorb impact during a side collision of the vehicle, minimize the degree to which the side seal enters the interior of the vehicle, and protect the occupants and the battery. [Means for solving the problem]

[0008] A vehicle side seal according to one embodiment of the present invention includes a side seal inner panel, a side seal outer panel connected to the side seal inner panel, and a first cushioning member arranged between the side seal inner panel and the side seal outer panel and constituting a plurality of closed cross sections aligned in the width direction of the side seal, wherein the first cushioning member includes a main body formed by bending a single plate material and at least one partition member connecting both side surfaces of the main body, and a plurality of beads may be formed in the main body and the partition member.

[0009] A vehicle side seal according to an embodiment of the present invention may include a second buffer member inserted into one of the closed cross sections of the first buffer member and extending in a width direction of the first buffer member. Effect of the Invention

[0010] As described above, according to the present invention, by providing an impact absorbing shape by disposing a shock absorbing member inside the side seal, the shock absorbing member can absorb the impact during a side collision of the vehicle through its own deformation and supporting rigidity, and the degree to which the side seal flows into the interior can be minimized, thereby providing the effect of safely protecting the occupants and the battery. DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS

[0012] The present invention will now be described in detail with reference to exemplary drawings. When referring to components in each drawing, it should be noted that the same components are given the same reference numerals as much as possible even when they are shown in different drawings.

[0013] FIG. 1 is a cross-sectional view of a vehicle side seal according to a first embodiment of the present invention, and FIG. 2 is an exploded perspective view of a first cushioning member shown in FIG.

[0014] The vehicle side seal according to the first embodiment of the present invention may include a side seal inner panel 1 , a side seal outer panel 2 , and a first buffer member 3 .

[0015] For example, a vehicle such as an electric vehicle includes a side seal at the bottom of the side surface. The side seal can be installed on the vehicle body by, for example, coupling a side seal inner panel 1 to a center floor panel (not shown) or a rear floor panel (not shown).

[0016] The side seal inner panel 1 can be joined to a part of a filler inner panel (not shown) extending in the height direction z of the vehicle body. However, the joining of the filler inner panel is not necessarily limited to this, and for example, the filler inner panel can be joined to the side seal outer panel 2.

[0017] The side seal inner panel 1 can be joined to a side seal outer panel 2 .

[0018] The side seal can be integrally joined by welding the side seal inner panel 1 and the side seal outer panel 2 at their lower or upper ends.

[0019] Also, the upper end or the lower end of the side seal may be treated and sealed by a sealer (not shown) in the longitudinal direction x of the vehicle body.

[0020] The first cushioning member 3 can be disposed between the side seal inner panel 1 and the side seal outer panel 2.

[0021] For example, as shown in Figures 1 and 2, the first buffer member 3 may include a body 31 formed by bending a single plate material, and a partition member 32 connecting both side surfaces of the body. Figures 1 and 2 show an example of a first buffer member having one partition member.

[0022] More specifically, the plate material extends from one end to a predetermined length to form a first surface P1, then is folded once in a first direction (clockwise in FIG. 1). Next, it extends further to a predetermined length to form a second surface P2, then is folded once again in the same direction, i.e., the first direction. Next, it extends to a predetermined length to form a third surface P3, and is terminated at the other end to complete the main body 31.

[0023] The second surface P2 is located opposite the open surface of the main body 31 and can constitute a support surface located between the first surface P1 and the third surface P3 on both sides.

[0024] In this manner, the plate material is stretched to a predetermined length and then folded repeatedly until a desired number of flat surfaces are formed, and then both ends of the plate material can be folded in a first direction (clockwise) or a second direction (counterclockwise) to form a flange F.

[0025] 1 and 2 show an example in which both ends of a plate material are bent in a first direction or a second direction to form flanges F, so that the main body 31 has a generally hat-shaped cross section.

[0026] In the vehicle side seal according to the first embodiment of the present invention, the body 31 of the first buffer member 3 may be formed with a plurality of beads 33 extending in the width direction y of the vehicle body or side seal and arranged at a distance along the length direction x of the first buffer member or body.

[0027] More specifically, a plurality of beads 33 may be formed on both sides, i.e., the first face P1 and the third face P3, of the body 31. The beads may start from the flange F and extend to a length equal to or greater than half the length of the first and third faces of the body.

[0028] As a result, the plurality of beads 33 can be formed adjacent to the side seal inner panel 1 in the first cushioning member 3 , and are not formed adjacent to the side seal outer panel 2 .

[0029] The plurality of beads 33 thus formed on the main body 31 improve the rigidity of the first buffer member 3 in the width direction y of the vehicle body or side seal, and can increase the amount of load that can be absorbed.

[0030] The partition member 32 may be formed by bending a single plate material so as to have a substantially U-shaped cross section, and flanges F for joining to the main body 31 may be formed on both ends.

[0031] Here, the extension length of the flange F may be in the range of about 10 to 15 mm, taking into consideration joints such as a welded portion W formed by welding. Also, the inner angle of the bent portion may be in the range of about 90 degrees to 120 degrees.

[0032] In the vehicle side seal according to the first embodiment of the present invention, the partition 32 of the first buffer member 3 may be formed with a plurality of beads 34 extending in the height direction z of the vehicle body or side seal and spaced apart along the length direction x of the first buffer member or partition member.

[0033] More specifically, the plurality of beads 34 may be formed to connect both flanges F of the partition member 32. The beads may extend the same length as the length of the partition member in the height direction z.

[0034] The multiple beads 34 can be formed to protrude toward the side seal inner panel 1 or toward the side seal outer panel 2.

[0035] The multiple beads 34 formed in the partition member 32 in this manner improve the rigidity of the partition member itself, thereby enabling the partition member to maintain its function of preventing both side surfaces (e.g., P1 and P3) of the main body 31 from spreading during a side collision.

[0036] The main body 31 and the partition member 32 may be made of a metal material such as steel, and may be formed with a plurality of beads 33, 34 by forming using a press, bending, roll forming, or a combination thereof.

[0037] When the main body 31 or the partition member 32 is manufactured by roll forming, it is possible to easily form even ultra-high strength steel material having a tensile strength of about 980 MPa or more. Furthermore, roll forming has the advantage that it is easier to correct springback than press forming, and the radius of the corners of the main body or partition member can be made smaller.

[0038] The main body 31 and the partition member 32 can be joined to each other by welding or the like.

[0039] More specifically, one side flange F of the partition member 32 may be fixed to the inner surface of the first surface P1 of the main body 31 by welding such as spot welding, laser welding, arc welding using carbon dioxide, etc. The other side flange of the partition member may be fixed to the inner surface of the third surface P3 of the main body by welding such as spot welding, laser welding, arc welding using carbon dioxide, etc.

[0040] The length in the height direction z of the partition member 32 can be formed at the second surface P2 of the main body 31 to be the same as the length in the height direction z between the first surface P1 and the third surface P3, and the partition member and the second surface of the main body can be separated by a predetermined distance.

[0041] As a result, the first surface P1 and the third surface P3 of the main body 31 can be maintained horizontally and arranged parallel to each other, which has the advantage that the impact energy absorption capacity is improved and the load that the cross section receives vertically is increased compared to a structure in which the first and third surfaces of the main body are inclined.

[0042] However, the length of the partition member 32 in the height direction z is not necessarily limited to this. For example, the length of the partition member in the height direction may be longer than the length of the second surface P2 of the main body 31 in the height direction so that the partition member slightly expands the main body.

[0043] As a result, the first buffer member 3 itself can have one first closed cross-section C1 defined by the partition member 32. In other words, one first closed cross-section can be formed between the partition member and the second surface P2 of the main body 31.

[0044] The first cushioning member 3 may have a length in the longitudinal direction x of the vehicle body that is sufficient to substantially fill the inside of the side seal.

[0045] The first cushioning member 3 has a shape that is bent multiple times and has one partition member 32 inside, which ensures rigidity not only against impact energy acting laterally on the side seal, but also against impact energy acting from the front and rear.

[0046] The flange F provided on the body 31 of the first buffer member 3 can be joined to the side seal inner panel 1 by welding such as two-way spot welding. This allows a welded part W to be formed between the flange of the first buffer member and the side seal inner panel.

[0047] This allows the second closed cross section C2 to be formed between the first cushioning member 3 and the side seal inner panel 1.

[0048] In the vehicle side seal according to the first embodiment of the present invention, an adhesive is applied to the outer surface of the second surface P2 provided on the main body 31 of the first buffer member 3, and the second surface P2 can be joined to the inner surface of the side seal outer panel 2. This allows an adhesive part B to be formed between the support surface of the first buffer member and the side seal outer panel.

[0049] However, the present invention is not necessarily limited to this, and the adhesive portion between the support surface of the first cushioning member 3 and the side seal outer panel 2 may be selectively omitted.

[0050] The vehicle side seal according to the first embodiment of the present invention has a shape that is folded multiple times, and by adopting a first buffer member 3 reinforced internally with a partition member 32, it is possible to form multiple closed cross sections C1, C2 having rectangular cross sections inside the side seal and aligned in the width direction y of the vehicle body or the side seal.

[0051] In this way, the vehicle side seal according to the first embodiment of the present invention has the advantage that even if a steel material is used, a plurality of closed cross sections C1, C2 aligned in the width direction y can be easily formed.

[0052] The multiple closed cross sections C1, C2 complement the support rigidity of the side seal itself and can directly absorb the impact during a side collision of the vehicle, thereby contributing to minimizing the amount of interior air entering the side seal.

[0053] For example, when an impact during a side collision of a vehicle is transmitted to the first cushioning member 3 via the side seal outer panel 2, the multiple closed cross sections C1, C2 reduce the transmitted impact by using the support rigidity of the mutually complementary interconnected structure, and as the first cushioning member is pushed toward the side seal inner panel 1 and begins to deform, it is able to absorb most of the remaining reduced impact.

[0054] Therefore, the vehicle side seal according to the first embodiment of the present invention includes the first buffer member 3 capable of effective shock absorption through compressive deformation inside the side seal, and increases the support rigidity of the side seal itself to induce stable crushing deformation during a collision, thereby maximizing the shock absorbing capacity. This has the advantage of minimizing the amount of air entering the vehicle interior at the time of a side collision, thereby providing maximum safety protection for the occupants and the battery.

[0055] Furthermore, in the vehicle side seal according to the first embodiment of the present invention, the collision performance of the side seal can be ensured by adjusting the material of the plate material forming the first buffer member 3 and the strength or thickness of this material. For example, by using ultra-high strength steel of 980 MPa class or more, an optimal combination for reducing the weight of the side seal can be achieved.

[0056] More specifically, the side seal inner panel 1, the side seal outer panel 2, and the first buffer member 3 may be made of plate material such as 1470 MART (Martensitic) steel or 1180 TRIP (Transformation Induced Plasticity) steel having a thickness of approximately 1.2 mm to 1.9 mm produced by the present applicant.

[0057] Here, 1470MART steel is a steel type that has improved collision safety with a tensile strength of more than 1,470MPa and a yield strength of more than 1,050MPa, while 1180TRIP steel is a steel type that has improved elongation while guaranteeing a tensile strength of more than 1,180MPa and a yield strength of more than 850MPa.

[0058] For example, either 1470 MART steel or 1180 TRIP steel may be used alone for the side seal inner panel 1 and the side seal outer panel 2, or 1470 MART steel and TRIP steel may be used together. For the first buffer member 3, 1180 TRIP steel may be used alone.

[0059] Furthermore, the plate material constituting the first cushioning member 3 can have a thickness greater than the thickness of the plate materials constituting the side seal inner panel 1 and the side seal outer panel 2 .

[0060] Furthermore, in the first buffer member 3, the thickness of the plate material constituting the main body 31 may be thicker than the thickness of the plate material constituting the partition member 32. For example, at least the first surface P1 and the third surface P3 of the main body may have a thickness in the range of 1.7 to 1.9 mm, and the partition member may have a thickness in the range of 1.2 to 1.4 mm.

[0061] This has the advantage that the collision energy absorption capacity is improved and the cross section receives a larger vertical load than when the thickness of the plate material constituting the main body 31 is thinner than the thickness of the plate material constituting the partition member 32 or when the two are the same.

[0062] In this way, the shock absorbing ability of the side seal can be maximized by the combination of strengths and thicknesses of the plate material forming the first buffer member 3.

[0063] In addition, by forming multiple beads 33 in the load direction on the main body 31 of the first buffer member 3, the deformation load of the main body can be increased, thereby doubling the collision energy absorption capacity of the first buffer member and the side seal.

[0064] In addition, among the methods using steel, forming, bending, and roll forming, which are economical and have a high material recovery rate, can be applied, so it is expected that the cost of molds during production will be reduced, and the use of steel will dramatically reduce the material cost for aluminum.

[0065] Therefore, the vehicle side seal according to the first embodiment of the present invention can ensure excellent collision performance, and since steel material can be used, it is possible to achieve cost reduction in terms of materials and construction methods, and it is possible to provide a lightweight yet structurally strong side seal.

[0066] FIG. 3 is a diagram showing a method of assembling the vehicle side seal according to the first embodiment of the present invention.

[0067] The assembly of a vehicle body is performed by combining an underbody assembly and a side structure assembly. Here, the side seal inner panel 1 is included in the underbody assembly, and the side seal outer panel 2 is included in the side structure assembly.

[0068] The side seal inner panel 1 can be joined to, for example, a center floor panel or a rear floor panel. This joining can be achieved by applying a joining such as welding, and a welded joint W can be formed between the center floor panel or the rear floor panel and one surface of the side seal inner panel.

[0069] The first buffer member 3 may be prepared by machining a single plate of metal, such as steel, to form the main body 31, machining another single plate of metal, such as steel, to form the partition member 32, and then joining the main body and the partition member together.

[0070] The main body 31 and the partition member 32 can be formed by bending or pressing a plate material, roll forming, etc. A plurality of beads 33, 34 can be formed on the main body and the partition member.

[0071] Both ends of the plate material forming the body 31 can be bent in a first direction (clockwise) or a second direction (counterclockwise) to form flanges F.

[0072] In addition, one side flange F of the partition member 32 may be fixed to the inner surface of the first surface P1 of the main body 31 by welding such as spot welding, laser welding, arc welding using carbon dioxide, etc. The other side flange F of the partition member may be fixed to the inner surface of the third surface P3 of the main body by welding such as spot welding, laser welding, arc welding using carbon dioxide, etc.

[0073] As a result, in the first buffer member 3, a single first closed cross section C1 defined by the partition member 32 can be formed.

[0074] Thereafter, in the vehicle side seal according to the first embodiment of the present invention, the first buffer member 3 can be joined to the underbody assembly, i.e., the side seal inner panel 1. At this time, the first buffer member and the side seal inner panel can be joined by, for example, two-way spot welding, and a welded portion W can be formed between the flange F of the first buffer member and the other surface of the side seal inner panel. This has the advantage that the joining strength between the first buffer member and the side seal inner panel is enhanced.

[0075] This allows a second closed cross section C2 to be formed between the first cushioning member 3 and the side seal inner panel 1. Therefore, the first cushioning member itself can be combined with the side seal inner panel to form a plurality of closed cross sections C1, C2 aligned in the width direction y within the side seal.

[0076] Alternatively, the first buffer member 3 and the side seal outer panel 2 can be joined together. At this time, one side of the first buffer member or one side of the side seal outer panel may be shielded, making it difficult to perform normal bidirectional spot welding. Therefore, a structural adhesive can be used to join the second surface P2 of the first buffer member to one side of the side seal outer panel to form an adhesive part B.

[0077] Finally, the side seal inner panel 1 and the side seal outer panel 2 can be joined together integrally and structurally stably at their upper and lower ends by applying a joining method such as bidirectional spot welding to form a weld W.

[0078] This completes the connection between the underbody assembly and the side structure assembly.

[0079] FIG. 4 is a cross-sectional view of a vehicle side seal according to a second embodiment of the present invention, and FIG. 5 is a perspective view of a first cushioning member shown in FIG.

[0080] The vehicle side seal according to the second embodiment of the present invention may include a side seal inner panel 1 , a side seal outer panel 2 , and a first buffer member 3 .

[0081] Here, the vehicle side seal according to the second embodiment of the present invention differs only in that a plurality of partition members 32 of the first buffer member 3 are arranged, and the other components can be configured and used in the same manner as described in the first embodiment of the present invention above, and therefore detailed descriptions of the configurations and functions of the remaining components will be omitted.

[0082] The first cushioning member 3 can be disposed between the side seal inner panel 1 and the side seal outer panel 2.

[0083] For example, as shown in Figures 4 and 5, the first buffer member 3 may include a main body 31 formed by bending a single plate material, and a plurality of partition members 32 connecting both side surfaces of the main body. Figures 4 and 5 show an example of a first buffer member having three partition members.

[0084] In the vehicle side seal according to the second embodiment of the present invention, a plurality of beads 33 may be formed on the body 31 of the first buffer member 3, extending in the width direction y of the vehicle body or the side seal and arranged at a distance along the length direction x of the first buffer member or the body.

[0085] Such a plurality of beads 33 can improve the rigidity of the first cushioning member 3 in the width direction y of the vehicle body or the side seal, thereby increasing the amount of load that can be absorbed.

[0086] The partition member 32 may be formed by bending a single plate material so as to have a substantially U-shaped cross section, and flanges F for joining to the main body 31 may be formed on both ends.

[0087] In the vehicle side seal according to the second embodiment of the present invention, the partition member 32 of the first buffer member 3 may be formed with a plurality of beads 34 extending in the height direction z of the vehicle body or side seal and spaced apart along the length direction x of the first buffer member or partition member.

[0088] More specifically, the plurality of beads 34 may be formed to connect both flanges F of the partition member 32. The beads may extend the same length as the length of the partition member in the height direction z.

[0089] The multiple beads 34 can be formed to protrude toward the side seal inner panel 1 or toward the side seal outer panel 2.

[0090] The multiple beads 34 formed in the partition member 32 in this manner improve the rigidity of the partition member itself and maintain the function of the partition member in preventing both side surfaces (e.g., P1 and P3) of the main body 31 from spreading during a side collision.

[0091] The body 31 and the partition member 32 may be made of a metal material such as steel, and may be formed with a plurality of beads 33, 34 by press forming, bending, roll forming, or a combination thereof.

[0092] The main body 31 and the partition member 32 can be joined to each other by welding or the like.

[0093] More specifically, one side flange F of the partition member 32 may be fixed to the inner surface of the first surface P1 of the main body 31 by welding such as spot welding, laser welding, etc. The other side flange of the partition member may be fixed to the inner surface of the third surface P3 of the main body by welding such as spot welding, laser welding, etc.

[0094] The length in the height direction z of the partition member 32 can be formed to be the same as the length in the height direction z of the second surface P2 of the main body 31, and one of the multiple partition members can be separated from the second surface of the main body by a predetermined distance.

[0095] For example, as shown in FIGS. 4 and 5, when the first buffer member 3 includes three partition members 32, the first buffer member 3 may include a first partition member 32a, a second partition member 32b, and a third partition member 32c.

[0096] The first partition member 32a may be disposed relatively closer to the second surface P2 of the main body 31. The first partition member may first be fixed to the inner surfaces of the first surface P1 and the third surface P3 of the main body by welding.

[0097] This allows the first buffer member 3 to form a first closed cross section C1 between the first partition member 32a and the second surface P2 of the main body 31.

[0098] Next, the second partition member 32b is disposed relatively farther from the second surface P2 of the main body 31 than the first partition member 32a, and can be fixed to the inner surfaces of the first surface P1 and the third surface P3 of the main body by welding.

[0099] This allows the first buffer member 3 to form a third closed cross section C3 between the first partition member 32a and the second partition member 32b. In other words, the third closed cross sections C3 are formed between the partition members, and the number of the third closed cross sections C3 may be increased or decreased depending on the number of the partition members.

[0100] The plurality of partition members 32 are coupled to the main body 31 while remaining spaced apart from one another within the main body, so that the first buffer member 3 itself can have at least a first closed cross section C1 and a third closed cross section C3.

[0101] The first cushioning member 3 may have a length in the longitudinal direction x of the vehicle body that is sufficient to substantially fill the inside of the side seal.

[0102] The first cushioning member 3 has a shape that is bent multiple times and has multiple partition members 32 inside, which ensures rigidity not only against impact energy acting laterally on the side seal, but also against impact energy acting from the front and rear.

[0103] The flange F provided on the body 31 of the first buffer member 3 can be joined to the side seal inner panel 1 by welding such as two-way spot welding. This allows a welded part W to be formed between the flange of the first buffer member and the side seal inner panel.

[0104] This allows the second closed cross section C2 to be formed between the first cushioning member 3 and the side seal inner panel 1.

[0105] For example, when the first cushioning member 3 includes three partition members 32, the first cushioning member 3 can have a second closed cross section C2 defined by both side surfaces of the main body 31, the third partition member 32c, and the side seal inner panel 1.

[0106] Of course, an additional third closed cross section C3 can be defined between the second partition member 32b and the third partition member 32c.

[0107] In the vehicle side seal according to the second embodiment of the present invention, an adhesive is applied to the outer surface of the second surface P2 provided on the main body 31 of the first buffer member 3, and the second surface P2 can be joined to the inner surface of the side seal outer panel 2. As a result, an adhesive part B can be formed between the support surface of the first buffer member and the side seal outer panel.

[0108] However, the present invention is not necessarily limited to this, and the adhesive portion between the support surface of the first cushioning member 3 and the side seal outer panel 2 can be selectively omitted.

[0109] The vehicle side seal according to the second embodiment of the present invention employs a first buffer member 3 having a shape that is folded multiple times and reinforced with multiple partition members 32 inside, thereby enabling the formation of multiple closed cross sections C1, C2, C3 inside the side seal that have rectangular cross sections and are aligned in the width direction y of the vehicle body or the side seal.

[0110] The number of closed cross sections is not limited to the above example, however, considering that the support rigidity and collision performance can be improved by increasing the number of partition members 32, but the weight and cost increase, the side seal may have 2 to 6 closed cross sections.

[0111] In this way, the vehicle side seal according to the second embodiment of the present invention has the advantage that a plurality of closed cross sections C1, C2, C3 aligned in the width direction y can be easily formed even if a steel material is used, for example.

[0112] The multiple closed cross sections C1, C2, and C3 complement the support rigidity of the side seal itself and can directly absorb the impact during a side collision of the vehicle, thereby contributing to minimizing the amount of interior air entering the side seal.

[0113] For example, when an impact during a side collision of a vehicle is transmitted to the first buffer member 3 via the side seal outer panel 2, the multiple closed cross sections C1, C2, C3 utilize the support rigidity of their mutually complementary interconnected structure to reduce the transmitted impact, and as the first buffer member is pushed toward the side seal inner panel 1 and begins to deform, it is able to absorb most of the remaining reduced impact.

[0114] In the vehicle side seal according to the second embodiment of the present invention, as in the first embodiment, the collision performance of the side seal can be ensured by adjusting the material of the plate material forming the first cushioning member 3 and the strength or thickness of this material.

[0115] In addition, by forming multiple beads 33 in the load direction on the main body 31 of the first buffer member 3, the deformation load of the main body 31 can be increased, thereby doubling the collision energy absorption capacity of the first buffer member and the side seal.

[0116] In addition, among the methods using steel, forming, bending, and roll forming, which are economical and have a high material recovery rate, can be applied, so it is expected that the cost of molds during production will be reduced, and the use of steel will dramatically reduce the material cost for aluminum.

[0117] Therefore, the vehicle side seal according to the first embodiment of the present invention can ensure excellent collision performance, and since steel material can be used, it is possible to achieve cost reduction in terms of materials and construction methods, and it is possible to provide a lightweight yet structurally strong side seal.

[0118] Meanwhile, the assembly method of the vehicle side seal according to the second embodiment of the present invention may be similarly applied to the assembly method described with reference to FIG.

[0119] However, when assembling the vehicle side seal according to the second embodiment of the present invention, before joining the first cushioning member 3 to the side seal inner panel 1, multiple partition members 32 can be welded and joined inside the main body 31 of the first cushioning member.

[0120] FIG. 6 is a diagram for explaining the operation of the vehicle side seal according to the second embodiment of the present invention, showing behavioral aspects in the performance verification results obtained by analyzing the vehicle side seal according to the second embodiment of the present invention.

[0121] The applicant performed a performance analysis by simulation on the vehicle side seal according to the second embodiment of the present invention.

[0122] For example, assuming a side collision of the vehicle, the side seal is impacted in the width direction y to compare the crushing behavior of a vehicle side seal equipped with a first buffer member 3 made of, for example, steel according to the second embodiment of the present invention in terms of its ability to withstand a certain level of collision load.

[0123] As shown in FIG. 6, in the side seal according to the second embodiment of the present invention, even if the side seal outer panel 2 is deformed during a side collision of the vehicle, the first buffer member 3 is induced to undergo stable crushing deformation by the multiple partition members 32, maximizing the impact absorption capacity, and it was clearly confirmed that the support rigidity is increased by the multiple beads 33 formed adjacent to the relatively inner side in the width direction of the vehicle body, thereby ensuring residual space within the side seal.

[0124] On the other hand, the third partition member 32c adjacent to the side seal inner panel 1 in the first cushioning member 3 can also play a role in the side seal resisting collision loads in the event of a small overlap collision (when only 25% of the vehicle's width on the driver's or passenger's side collides with an obstacle at a speed of 64 km / h).

[0125] For this reason, a partition member (e.g., 32c) adjacent to the side seal inner panel 1 in the first cushioning member 3 can be positioned within the main body 31 at least between the portion where the bead 33 on the first surface P1 is formed and the portion where the bead 33 on the third surface P3 is formed.

[0126] 7 and 8 are graphs showing deformation forms based on analysis of the vehicle side seal according to the second embodiment of the present invention.

[0127] FIG. 7 shows the cross-sectional load due to displacement between a conventional side seal a having a cushioning member made of an aluminum extrusion material of the same weight, and a vehicle side seal b having a first cushioning member 3 made of, for example, steel material according to the second embodiment of the present invention.

[0128] Here, the conventional side seal a is in the form of a tubular member with a rectangular cross section, has four partition walls aligned in the width direction y of the side seal and spaced at equal intervals therebetween, and includes a buffer member made of extruded aluminum having the same weight as the first buffer member 3 applied in the second embodiment of the present invention.

[0129] When FIG. 7 is examined, it can be seen that the load received vertically on the cross section at the beginning of the collision is somewhat superior in the conventional technology (a), but the load received vertically on the cross section during the entire deformation is greater in the present invention (b).

[0130] The side seal of the prior art (a) has a maximum cross-sectional load of 0.8 MN, whereas the side seal of the present invention (b) has a maximum cross-sectional load approaching 1.1 MN.

[0131] Furthermore, the side seal of the present invention (b) stops its entire movement at a displacement of approximately 135 mm, which indicates that it absorbs even greater collision energy within a shorter displacement than the side seal of the prior art (a), whose entire movement stops after exceeding 140 mm.

[0132] FIG. 8 shows the energy absorption capacity due to displacement between a conventional side seal a having a buffer member made of aluminum extrusion material of the same weight, and a vehicle side seal b having a first buffer member 3 made of, for example, steel material according to the second embodiment of the present invention.

[0133] When Figure 8 is examined, when absorbing the same maximum collision energy of approximately 77 MJ, the side seal of the present invention (b) stops its overall behavior at a displacement of approximately 135 mm, clearly demonstrating its comparative advantage in energy absorption capacity through deformation over the side seal of the prior art (a), whose overall behavior stops at a displacement of more than 140 mm.

[0134] Therefore, the vehicle side seal according to the present invention has a first buffer member 3 capable of effectively absorbing impacts through compressive deformation inside the side seal, which increases the support rigidity of the side seal itself and maximizes impact absorption by inducing stable crushing deformation during a collision. This has the advantage of minimizing the amount of air entering the vehicle interior during a side collision, thereby providing maximum safety protection for passengers and the battery.

[0135] FIG. 9 is a cross-sectional view of a vehicle side seal according to a third embodiment of the present invention.

[0136] The vehicle side seal according to the third embodiment of the present invention may include a side seal inner panel 1, a side seal outer panel 2, a first buffer member 3, and a second buffer member 4.

[0137] Here, the only difference between the vehicle side seal according to the third embodiment of the present invention is that a second buffer member 4 is additionally arranged within a first buffer member 3, and the other components can be configured and used in the same manner as described in the first and second embodiments of the present invention described above, and therefore a detailed description of the configuration and operation of the remaining components will be omitted.

[0138] The second buffer member 4 is formed to have a predetermined length in the length direction x of the side seal, and may be formed as a generally U-shaped member that has a certain width in the width direction x of the side seal and is open downwards. This allows the second buffer member to divide the inside of the closed cross section (e.g., C2) of the first buffer member 3 into two halves.

[0139] For example, the second buffer member 4 may be formed by bending a single plate material having a predetermined width and length multiple times to have a substantially U-shaped cross section, and flanges F may be formed on both ends for joining. Of the flanges on both sides, one flange may have a shorter length in the height direction z than the other flange.

[0140] Also, the second buffer member 4 may be integrally formed by machining a single metal plate such as steel. The second buffer member may be shaped by press forming, bending, roll forming, or the like.

[0141] For example, when the second buffer member 4 is manufactured by roll forming, it is possible to easily form even ultra-high strength steel material with a tensile strength of approximately 980 MPa or more. Furthermore, roll forming has the advantage that it is easier to correct springback than press forming, and the corner radius of the second buffer member can be made smaller.

[0142] Here, the thickness of the plate material of the second buffer member 4 can be greater than the thickness of the plate material of the partition member 32 .

[0143] Optionally, in the vehicle side seal according to the third embodiment of the present invention, the second buffer member 4 may be formed with a plurality of beads (not shown) extending in the width direction y of the vehicle body or the side seal and arranged at a distance along the length direction x of the second buffer member.

[0144] The second buffer member 4 may be provided so as to be inserted and fixed in one of the multiple closed cross sections of the first buffer member 3. For example, the second buffer member may be disposed in the inner closed cross section (e.g., C2) that is partitioned by the side seal inner panel 1 or is most adjacent among the multiple closed cross sections of the first buffer member.

[0145] Of the two flanges of the second buffer member 4, one flange having a relatively short length in the height direction z can be fixed to the partition member 32 by welding or the like, and the other flange having a relatively long length in the height direction z can be interposed between the flange of the first buffer member 3 and the side seal inner panel 1 and fixed by three-layer welding or the like. However, the fixing method is not necessarily limited to the above example.

[0146] As a result, the side seal including the second buffer member 4 has the advantage that it has better collision energy absorption capacity and the cross section receives a larger vertical load than when only the first buffer member 3 is provided.

[0147] In this case, the width of the second buffer member 4 can be the same as the length of the corresponding closed cross section C2 within the first buffer member 3 in the width direction y.

[0148] The second buffer member 4 thus formed and arranged can constitute the inside of the first buffer member 3.

[0149] The vehicle side seal according to the third embodiment of the present invention includes a first buffer member 3 and a second buffer member 4, and by inserting the second buffer member into the inner closed cross section C2 of the first buffer member, the rigidity of the first buffer member in the width direction y of the vehicle body or the side seal can be improved, thereby increasing the amount of load that can be absorbed.

[0150] Therefore, the impact absorption capacity of the side seal can be maximized due to the increase in the load that the cross section receives vertically during a side collision, and the remaining space after maximum deformation can be stably secured, thereby minimizing the inflow of the side seal into the interior, thereby safely protecting the occupants and the battery.

[0151] FIG. 10 is a diagram showing a method of assembling a vehicle side seal according to a third embodiment of the present invention.

[0152] The method of assembling a vehicle side seal according to the third embodiment of the present invention can be similarly applied to the method of assembling a vehicle side seal according to the first embodiment of the present invention described with reference to FIG.

[0153] However, when assembling the vehicle side seal according to the third embodiment of the present invention, before joining the first cushioning member 3 to the side seal inner panel 1, the second cushioning member 4 and the partition member 32 can be welded together, and then the partition member 32 of the assembly of the second cushioning member and the partition member can be joined to the main body 31.

[0154] At this time, the other side flange of the second buffer member 4, which has a relatively long length in the height direction z, can come into contact with the one side flange of the first buffer member 3.

[0155] Thereafter, the first buffer member 3 with the second buffer member 4 inserted therein can be joined to the side seal inner panel 1. The other flange of the second buffer member, which has a relatively long length in the height direction z, can be interposed between the flange of the first buffer member and the side seal inner panel and fixed by triple-layer welding or the like.

[0156] Optionally, the first cushioning member 3 and the side seal outer panel 2 can be bonded to each other to form a bonding portion B.

[0157] Finally, the side seal inner panel 1 and the side seal outer panel 2 can be joined together integrally and structurally stably at their upper and lower ends by applying a joining method such as bidirectional spot welding to form a weld W.

[0158] FIG. 11 is a cross-sectional view of a vehicle side seal according to a fourth embodiment of the present invention, and FIG. 12 is a perspective view and an enlarged view showing an installation state of the second buffer member shown in FIG.

[0159] The vehicle side seal according to the fourth embodiment of the present invention may include a side seal inner panel 1, a side seal outer panel 2, a first buffer member 3, and a second buffer member 5.

[0160] Here, the vehicle side seal according to the fourth embodiment of the present invention differs only in the shape and arrangement of the second buffer member 5, and the other components can be configured and used in the same manner as described in the third embodiment of the present invention above, so detailed descriptions of the configurations and functions of the remaining components will be omitted.

[0161] The second buffer member 5 may be formed of a tubular member having a substantially polygonal cross section, with a constant length in the width direction x of the side seal and a constant width in the length direction x of the side seal, so that the second buffer member may have at least one hollow portion therein.

[0162] For example, the second buffer member 5 can be formed using a metal such as steel so as to have an overall rectangular closed cross section.

[0163] More specifically, the second buffer member 5 may be made of a plate material such as 1470 MART steel or 1180 TRIP steel having a thickness of about 1.7 to 1.9 mm, which is produced by the present applicant.

[0164] For example, in the case of steel, the second buffer member 5 may include a main body 51 formed by folding a single plate material having a predetermined width and length two or more times and then welding the meeting ends to have at least one closed cross-section, and a plate 52 fixed to close one side of the main body.

[0165] In the drawings, the second buffer member 5 has two rectangular closed cross sections, but the shape of the closed cross section can be adjusted according to design conditions. As the machining, roll forming or the like can be used.

[0166] For example, when the main body 51 of the second cushioning member 5 is manufactured by roll forming, it is possible to easily form even ultra-high strength steel material with a tensile strength of approximately 980 MPa or more. Furthermore, roll forming has the advantage that it is easier to correct springback than press forming and the corner radius of the main body can be made smaller, ensuring high deformation resistance against collision loads.

[0167] One side of the plate 52 may be joined to one side of the body 51 by welding, such as arc welding, so that the second buffer member 5 may have at least one hollow portion that is closed on one side and open on the other side.

[0168] The other side of the plate 52 can be fixed to the side seal inner panel 1 by welding such as spot welding, laser welding, or arc welding using carbon dioxide, as shown in Figs.

[0169] Here, the thickness of the plate material of the second buffer member 5 can be greater than the thickness of the plate material of the partition member 32 constituting the first buffer member 3 .

[0170] The second buffer member 5 can be provided so as to be inserted and fixed in one of the multiple closed cross sections of the first buffer member 3. For example, the second buffer member can be disposed in the inner closed cross section (e.g., C2) that is partitioned by the side seal inner panel 1 or is most adjacent among the multiple closed cross sections of the first buffer member.

[0171] For this reason, as described above, the plate 52 of the second buffer member 5 can be fixed to the side seal inner panel 1 by welding or the like. However, the fixing method is not necessarily limited to the above example.

[0172] The second buffer member 5 can be disposed in the side seal inner panel 1 at a position corresponding to a cross member (not shown) of the vehicle body.

[0173] However, the arrangement and number of the second buffer members 5 are not limited to the above-described and illustrated examples. However, considering that the support rigidity and collision performance can be improved by increasing the number of second buffer members, but the weight and cost increase, one to five second buffer members may be provided inside the side seal.

[0174] As a result, the side seal including the second buffer member 5 has the advantage that it has improved collision energy absorption capacity and the cross section receives a larger vertical load than when only the first buffer member 3 is provided.

[0175] In this case, the width of the second buffer member 5 may be shorter than the length in the width direction y of the corresponding closed cross-section C2 within the first buffer member 3, and the main body portion 51 of the second buffer member may be separated from the partition member 32.

[0176] The second buffer member 5 thus formed and arranged can constitute the inside of the first buffer member 3.

[0177] The vehicle side seal according to the fourth embodiment of the present invention includes a first buffer member 3 and a second buffer member 5, and by inserting the second buffer member into the inner closed cross section C2 of the first buffer member, the rigidity of the first buffer member in the width direction y of the vehicle body or the side seal can be improved, thereby increasing the amount of load that can be absorbed.

[0178] Furthermore, in the case of an electric vehicle, the second buffer member 5 locally adds support rigidity against collision energy during a side collision and makes it possible to secure remaining space within the side seal, thereby adequately protecting the battery that is widely distributed under the vehicle body.

[0179] Therefore, the impact absorption capacity of the side seal can be maximized by increasing the load that the cross section receives vertically during a side collision, and as a result, the degree to which the side seal enters the interior can be minimized, thereby safely protecting the occupants and the battery.

[0180] FIG. 13 is a diagram showing a method of assembling a vehicle side seal according to a fourth embodiment of the present invention.

[0181] The method of assembling a vehicle side seal according to the fourth embodiment of the present invention may be similarly applied to the method of assembling a vehicle side seal according to the third embodiment of the present invention described with reference to FIG.

[0182] The first buffer member 3 may be prepared by machining a single plate of metal, such as steel, to form the main body 31, machining another single plate of metal, such as steel, to form the partition member 32, and then joining the main body and the partition member together.

[0183] The second buffer member 5 can be prepared by machining a single sheet of metal, such as steel, folding it two or more times, welding the meeting ends together to form a main body 51, and then joining a plate 52 of metal, such as steel, to one side of the main body.

[0184] Before joining the first buffer member 3 to the side seal inner panel 1, the second buffer member 5 can be fixed to the side seal inner panel by welding such as spot welding, laser welding, arc welding using carbon dioxide or the like.

[0185] Thereafter, the first buffer member 3 can be joined to the side seal inner panel 1 to which the second buffer member 5 is fixed. At this time, the first buffer member and the side seal inner panel can be joined by, for example, two-way spot welding or the like, and a welded part W can be formed between the flange F of the first buffer member and the other surface of the side seal inner panel.

[0186] Optionally, the first cushioning member 3 and the side seal outer panel 2 can be bonded to each other to form a bonding portion B.

[0187] Finally, the side seal inner panel 1 and the side seal outer panel 2 can be joined together integrally and structurally stably at their upper and lower ends by forming a weld W using, for example, two-way spot welding.

[0188] FIG. 14 is a diagram for explaining the operation of the vehicle side seal according to the fourth embodiment of the present invention, showing behavioral aspects in the performance verification results obtained by analyzing the vehicle side seal according to the fourth embodiment of the present invention.

[0189] The applicant performed a performance analysis by simulation on the vehicle side seal according to the fourth embodiment of the present invention.

[0190] For example, assuming a side collision of the vehicle, an impact was applied to the side seal in the width direction y, and the crushing behavior of a vehicle side seal equipped with a first buffer member 3 and a second buffer member 5 made of, for example, steel, was compared in terms of its ability to withstand a certain level of collision load using the fourth embodiment of the present invention.

[0191] 14, in the side seal according to the fourth embodiment of the present invention, even if the side seal outer panel 2 is deformed during a side collision of the vehicle, the first buffer member 3 is induced to undergo stable crushing deformation by the plurality of partition members 32, maximizing the impact absorbing capacity, and the support rigidity can be increased by the plurality of beads 33 formed adjacent to the relatively inner side in the width direction of the vehicle body. Furthermore, it was clearly confirmed that the second buffer member 5 adds high deformation resistance against the collision load, thereby ensuring remaining space within the side seal.

[0192] 15 and 16 are graphs showing deformation forms based on analysis of the vehicle side seal according to the fourth embodiment of the present invention.

[0193] FIG. 15 shows the cross-sectional load associated with displacement between a conventional side seal a having a cushioning member made of an aluminum extrusion and a vehicle side seal b having a first cushioning member 3 and a second cushioning member 5 made of, for example, steel according to the fourth embodiment of the present invention.

[0194] Here, the conventional side seal a is in the form of a tubular member with a rectangular cross section, and contains within it a buffer member made of an aluminum extrusion having four partition walls aligned in the width direction y of the side seal and spaced at equal intervals from one another.

[0195] When FIG. 15 is examined, it can be seen that the load received perpendicularly to the cross section at the beginning of the collision is somewhat superior in the conventional technology (a), but the load received perpendicularly to the cross section during the entire deformation is much greater in the present invention (b).

[0196] The side seal of the prior art (a) has a maximum cross-sectional load of 0.8 MN, whereas the side seal of the present invention (b) has a maximum cross-sectional load of 1.4 MN.

[0197] Furthermore, the side seal of the present invention (b) stops its entire movement at a displacement of approximately 130 mm, which indicates that it absorbs even greater collision energy within a shorter displacement than the side seal of the prior art (a), whose entire movement stops after exceeding 140 mm.

[0198] FIG. 16 shows the energy absorption capacity due to displacement between a conventional side seal a having a cushioning member made of an aluminum extrusion material and a vehicle side seal b according to the fourth embodiment of the present invention having a first cushioning member 3 and a second cushioning member 5 made of, for example, steel.

[0199] When Figure 16 is examined, it is clear that when absorbing the same maximum impact energy of approximately 77 MJ, the side seal of the present invention (b) stops its overall behavior at a displacement of approximately 130 mm, which clearly indicates that the side seal of the present invention (b) has a comparative advantage in terms of energy absorption capacity through deformation compared to the side seal of the prior art (a), whose overall behavior stops when it exceeds 140 mm.

[0200] Therefore, the vehicle side seal according to the present invention includes the buffer members 3 and 4 inside the side seal, which can effectively absorb impacts by compressive deformation, and can greatly increase the support rigidity of the side seal itself, thereby maximizing the impact absorption capacity by inducing stable crushing deformation during a collision. As a result, the remaining space after maximum deformation during a side collision of the vehicle can be stably secured, minimizing the amount of air entering the vehicle interior from the side seal, and providing maximum safety protection for the passengers and the battery.

[0201] In addition, by forming multiple beads 33 in the load direction on the main body 31 of the first buffer member 3, the deformation load of the main body can be increased, thereby doubling the collision energy absorption capacity of the first buffer member and the side seal.

[0202] In addition, among the methods using steel, forming, bending, and roll forming, which are economical and have a high material recovery rate, can be applied, so it is expected that the cost of molds during production will be reduced, and the use of steel will dramatically reduce the material cost for aluminum.

[0203] Therefore, the vehicle side seal according to the fourth embodiment of the present invention can ensure excellent collision performance, and since steel material can be used, it is possible to achieve cost reduction in terms of materials and construction methods, and it is possible to provide a lightweight yet structurally strong side seal.
