Abstract

Determining the characteristics of a biological sample, such as a blood sample. [Solution] Apparatus and methods are described that include preparing a blood sample for analysis by placing the blood sample in a sample chamber (52) and placing the sample chamber with the blood sample in a microscope unit (24). Using a microscope in the microscope unit, acquire one or more microscopic images of the sample chamber with the blood sample in it. Based on the one or more images, determine the amount of one or more cell types in the sample chamber that had already settled in the sample chamber prior to acquisition of the one or more microscopic images. Determine a characteristic of the sample at least partially accordingly. Other applications are also described.
