Abstract

To provide a method of performing induction welding of a thermoplastic composite by using a flexible heat sink and / or cooling for decreasing a temperature of a welding interface, and a heat sink.SOLUTION: A method of performing induction welding of a first thermoplastic composite (TPC) 12 to a second thermoplastic composite (TPC) 14 comprises: inductively heating a weld interface area 74 between the first TPC 12 and the second TPC 14; and cooling a surface of the first TPC 12 opposite the weld interface area 74 while inductively heating the weld interface area 74. The method preferably further comprises bending a heat sink 20 during placement on the surface of the first TPC 12 opposite the weld interface area 74.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 6
