AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Conventional polymer materials used for optical applications, such as imaging lenses, exhibit coloring in the visible light region, which limits their suitability due to high refractive index and light dispersion.

Method used

A polymer material with a sulfoxide skeleton in the main chain is developed, which reduces coloring in the visible light region, achieves a high refractive index, and minimizes light dispersion. This material is produced by polymerizing a monomer component containing a sulfur-containing monomer and then oxidizing the resulting polymer using a specific oxidizing agent, such as peroxides or chloric acid.

Benefits of technology

The polymer material effectively suppresses coloring in the visible light region, maintains a high refractive index, and exhibits low light dispersion, making it suitable for optical applications like imaging lenses. The production method ensures efficient and effective synthesis of the polymer material.

Abstract

To provide a polymeric material having reduced coloration in the visible light region, a high refractive index, and low optical dispersion.SOLUTION: Provided is a polymeric material that is a polymer having a sulfoxide skeleton in a main chain, wherein the polymer has at least one structure in which a constitutional unit (A) represented by the following general formula (1) and an arylene sulfoxide constitutional unit, an arylene sulfide constitutional unit, or an arylene sulfone constitutional unit are adjacent, and an elemental ratio of oxygen atom O to sulfur atom S (O / S) is 0.1 to 1.5. (In the formula, A1 represents a phenylene group, a naphthylene group, an anthrylene group, a biphenylene group, or a triphenylene group having a substituent. The substituent includes a halogen atom, a hydroxyl group, or an alkyl group of 1 to 18 carbons, an alkoxy group of 1 to 18 carbons, an aryl group, an aralkyl group, or a sulfur-containing substituent, each of which may have a halogen atom, a hydroxyl group, or an alkyl group.)SELECTED DRAWING: None
