Abstract
Provided is an optical receiver (10a) that can be manufactured by a simple mounting method and that enables both size reduction and increase in sensitivity by extension of an optical path length. The optical receiver (10a) according to the present disclosure comprises: a planar light-wave circuit (14) including a spot size converter (12) that converts the spot size of signal light incident from an optical fiber (11); a semiconductor substrate (13) connected to the planar light-wave circuit (14) through a connection surface; and a light-receiving element (15) mounted on a substrate surface of the semiconductor substrate (13), wherein the connection surface is a facet surface that contacts the substrate surface at an acute or obtuse angle so that the signal light emitted from the spot size converter (12) is incident on a light-receiving surface of the light-receiving element (15).
