To provide a carbonaceous material excellent in discharge capacity and cycle durability and having high initial efficiency; and to provide a method for producing the same.SOLUTION: This invention relates to a carbonaceous material in which the pore volume determined by Grand Canonical Monte Carlo simulation for adsorption-desorption isotherm of carbon dioxide is 0.05 cm3 / g to 0.20 cm3 / g, and a ratio (desorption / adsorption) of desorption and adsorption at a relative pressure of 0.01 in the adsorption-desorption isotherm is 1.08 or more.SELECTED DRAWING: None
