Abstract

To provide spatialized audio coding by interpolation of rotation and quantization.SOLUTION: The invention relates to a coding method for compression of an audio signal forming successive sample frames over time in each of N channels in an ambisonic representation of order higher than zero. The method comprises the steps of: forming a matrix of inter-channel covariances for the current frame based on the channels, and searching for eigenvectors of the covariance matrix to obtain a matrix of eigenvectors (S3); testing the matrix of eigenvectors (S5) to verify that the matrix represents a rotation in N-dimensional space, and if not, modifying the matrix of eigenvectors until a rotation matrix is obtained for the current frame (t) (S6); and applying the rotation matrix to the N channels of the signal before individual channel coding of the signal (S7).SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
