Abstract

Embodiments disclosed herein provide devices, systems, and methods for illuminating the interior of an eye (200). More specifically, the present disclosure relates to an ergonomic chandelier illumination system (100) for illuminating a surgical site during ophthalmic surgery, the chandelier illumination system having improved flexibility, profile, and light coupling efficiency. In certain embodiments, a ductile chandelier illumination probe (300) is disclosed that can be bent by a surgeon to any desired angle. In other specific embodiments, a pre-formed chandelier illumination probe (500) is disclosed that is preset to a desired angle using a heating method. In other specific embodiments, a method is disclosed for belling and combining two optical fibers to create a dual chandelier output with improved light coupling efficiency that can be used with a single connector.
