AI Technical Summary

Technical Problem

Existing medication delivery devices, such as auto-injectors, lack improvements in user comfort, ease of use, safety features, and structural robustness, particularly in actuation and lockout mechanisms.

Method used

A medication delivery device with enhanced structural components including a tubular housing, actuator, plunger rod, rotor, and needle cover design that provides a smoother operation, reduced actuation force, and a secure lockout feature, featuring a radial flange for increased contact area and robust needle guard with guided sliding mechanisms.

Benefits of technology

The device offers improved user experience through responsive actuation, enhanced safety with a lockout feature, and increased robustness, ensuring ease of use and preventing accidental reuse.

Abstract

The present disclosure relates to a drug delivery device. The drug delivery device includes a housing having a proximal end and contains a pre-filled syringe positioned within the housing. The syringe has a needle, a dose of drug, and a sliding stopper. A tubular actuating member, such as a needle cover, is slidably positioned within the housing of the delivery device to move from a first position to a second position and then to a final locked position. The needle cover has two distally projecting arms and a proximal end portion terminating in a radial flange. The plunger rod can move proximally relative to the needle cover only when the needle cover is in the second position. The radial flange is positioned outside the proximal end of the housing when the needle cover is in the first position, the second position, and the locked position. The radial flange has an outer diameter D3, which is greater than the outer diameter D2 of the proximal end portion but less than the outer diameter D1 of the proximal end of the housing.
