Abstract

The present invention relates to an apparatus for detecting signals from a human or animal living body, which apparatus, during operation, performs the following steps: time-dependently detecting a signal 200, 610 from a human or animal living body; subdividing a signal segment 201 into first blocks 210; determining the total number of first blocks 210; determining a measure 220, 320, 420 of the signal amplitude in each of the first blocks 210; and is less than a predeterminable first threshold 330, 430, calculate a first quotient q1 from the number of first blocks 210 whose signal amplitude measure 220, 320, 420 is less than the first threshold 330, 430 and the total number of first blocks 210, compare the first quotient q1 with a second threshold 350, 450, and classify the state of the human or animal organism as physiological or pathophysiological as a function of the previous comparison.
